Barbara Jane Newkirk

09/23/2024 - 09:57 , by TKing09

It is with great sorrow that we announce that Barbara Jane Newkirk, 77, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024. She lost her battle with cancer.

Barbara Jane Newkirk was born June 26, 1947, in Corona, California. She was the oldest of three children. She had a sister Karen and brother Larry. She graduated from Duncan, Oklahoma High School in 1965. She was married to Tommy Newkirk on July 7, 1966. Tommy and Barbara had four children: Tabitha, Regina, Kent, and Brent.

She worked as a bookkeeper with her husband at Newkirk Electric for 33 years. She loved her community. She loved attending Sutton County Days, or Christmas downtown. She loved eating at the local restaurants and having coffee with friends. Barbara was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. She would be the one to give her grandchildren brownies and ice cream for breakfast because they asked for it. She would also be the one to make sure her family had the best home-made meals. She was a great cook, and loved watching the cooking channels, or reading cooking magazines. Barbara had an amazing heart. Her smile and laugh could light up the room. She chose to look at the good in people. There was always room at her dinner table for you. She always made sure you had a special treat.

Barbara was survived by her husband Tommy Newkirk, daughter Regina Estrada, son Kent
Newkirk, and brother Larry Bailey. She has three granddaughters, Shelby Burris, Trina Burris, Cara Newkirk, and one grandson Andrew Newkirk. Her great grandchildren included Kenna Hogan, Neyla Hogan, Elizabeth Fowler, and Aaron Fowler. She has many Oklahoma cousins, and nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded by her children Tabitha and Brent Newkirk, her parents Rayburn and Opal Bailey, and her sister Karen Davidson. There are no words to describe how much this lady impacted so many of her family and friends. She was the heart of the family. We know she is no longer sick; she is no longer hurting. Her son Brent passed away July 31, 2024. We know he paved away for her and welcomed her home on her final day.

The family has chosen to forgo a funeral service and proceed with a graveside service at a family site in Duncan Oklahoma at a later date.
