Larry Hamilton, Jr.

09/15/2024 - 11:44 , by TKing09

Larry C. Hamilton, Jr., at the age of 86 years old, passed away on August 8, 2024, to join his Lord and Savior.

Larry was born on April 22, 1938, to Larry C. Hamilton Sr. and Francis (Lackey) Hamilton in Driscoll, Texas.

He married Donna Ruth Hamilton on August 7, 1955, after eloping to Mexico. In 1958 their son Richard Allen "Dickie" Hamilton was born. In 1963 Stacy Ruth Hamilton was born and in 1981 Donnett Hamilton. Tragically Dickie and Stacy passed away during their childhood years. Later he was overjoyed with the birth of his grandson Richard Allen Hamilton and gave him the nickname J.R.

Larry was an industrious worker and had work ethics that stood out to everyone who knew him. He worked for USPS as a mail carrier before finding his passion of working in the oilfield. He worked for Superior Oil Company as a field service mechanic until the early seventies when he started his own business, Larry Hamilton Field Service. During the bust of the eighties, he downsized and reconstructed the company into LaHamco, Inc., from 1984-1998. After leaving the oil field behind Larry worked for his best friend, David Tomlinson, which landed him in San Angelo where he worked and lived on the North Concho River until his passing.

Larry was a Christian man and studied his Bible every day with a deep passion to walk closer to his Lord and Savior. His love for the Lord was obvious in the way he treated others as he never met a stranger and once you met him you loved him, and you knew he loved you back! (You could even see a twinkle in his eyes) If you were Larry's friend you were his family! He had a giving heart and helped anyone who needed a helping hand. Even when his physical body was no longer able to get around as well as he once could he would get on his golf cart and go check on others.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Ruth Hamilton; two young children, Richard Allen "Dickie" Hamilton, and Stacy Ruth Hamilton.

Larry is survived by his daughter Donnett Perry, son- in-law Michael Perry, and grandson, Michael Perry, Jr. (J.R) all of Midland; cousin, Joanne Hughen and his adopted family Gayle McCrea Whipple and her family, along with numerous dear friends.

We rejoice in knowing Larry is no longer suffering and is with his Lord and Savior, but those of us he leaves behind will miss him very much and he most definitely lives on in our hearts. The family extends special thanks to the doctors and staff of Shannon Medical Center and the staff of Regency House for helping Larry during his last three months.

Larry requested that there be no funeral, but his family and friends will celebrate his life with a little "get together" down on the river cruising on golf carts, telling stories, and laughing!

Alan Dean Hudgins

09/15/2024 - 11:38 , by TKing09

Alan “Dean” Hudgins peacefully passed into heaven on September 13, 2024 with his loving family at his side after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Dean was born on October 28, 1945, in Coleman, Texas, to Alvin N. and Thelma Brown Hudgins. Dean grew up in the small town of Talpa, Texas, where he attended school before moving to Ballinger when he was a freshman in high school.

While in public school, Dean walked home for lunch every day to a hot meal his mom always prepared for him and his brother, Roger. Dean played football and basketball at Ballinger High School and baseball in the summers. Dean developed a sense of determination and drive through experiences at his father’s Exxon service station. Dean and Roger worked in the station after school and on weekends. He continued to fill the gas tanks, wash, and wax his and his family’s vehicles, keeping them spotless and in pristine condition, until his illness would not allow him to continue. This meticulousness carried over to the things Dean took great pride in: his perfect yard, his garden, and his home.

Dean graduated from Texas Tech in 1969 with a double major in journalism and history, and later earned two master’s degrees from Angelo State University. Dean began his teaching and coaching career in Rotan, Texas, in 1969 and retired as a central office administrator in San Angelo, Texas. Dean’s deep, booming voice served him well as disciplinarian; as a teacher, and school administrator, but masked his tender, caring heart for the thousands of students he reached over his 34 years in education.

Dean met Janet Miller of Seymour, Texas, at Texas Tech during summer school in 1967. Fortuitously, Dean called Janet the next day to ask her out, starting a 56 year-long love story. They married in 1968 and welcomed their precious and cherished daughter, Alisen, in 1978. No child ever had more loving, doting parents, and the three of them remained close-knit until the end.

Dean enjoyed playing, coaching and watching sports. His grandsons put Papa to the test to travel and watch them play all over the state. He seldom missed a scrimmage, game or school event. He loved golf, specifically playing with his son-in-law, Brandon, and his grandsons. In addition, Dean was proud of his country and never skipped an opportunity to honor and pray for our veterans. Above all his interests was his love for Jesus, and his faith was apparent in all that he accomplished.

Dean is survived by his devoted wife, Janet; his daughter Alisen and her husband Brandon Sanders, the son Dean never had; and four grandsons, Bryson, Jackson, Mason, and Hudson, all of San Angelo. His extended family includes sisters-in-law Pat Hudgins, Annette Miller, and Minda Parks; and brothers-in-law Larry Miller and Don Parks, several cousins including Sybil Dotson and Pat Revel, and nieces and nephews Charla Carlson, Brint Parks, Chelsi Orsak, Ryan Miller, Ryan Higgins, Andrew Higgins and Courtney Goldwitz.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 16, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Harper Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at Southland Baptist Church, in San Angelo, on Tuesday, September 17, at 11:00 a.m. To honor Dean’s vibrant life, guests are invited to wear any color attire. A private graveside burial will be in Seymour, Texas, in a multi-generational family plot. Honorary pallbearers include Bryson, Jackson, Mason, and Hudson Sanders. The family would like to thank Laura Perez and Margaret Patterson for their help caring for Dean and “his girls” in his last few days.

Tommy Dean Ayers

09/15/2024 - 11:36 , by TKing09

Tommy Dean Ayers was born May 3, 1947 to Elgin “Dewitt” and Ethel Ayers in San Angelo, Tx., and passed away on September 11, 2024.

Tommy grew up farming and ranching in Texas and New Mexico, and his family lived on the Guinn Ranch in Knickerbocker where he developed his love for hunting and fishing. He graduated from Christoval High school. Later he met the love of his life, Alice Hoelscher and they were married at Sacred Heart Cathedral on January 25, 1969. Tommy earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education from Angelo State University. He began coaching football and taught history at Lincoln Junior High, and later at Central High School where he was a respected and beloved history teacher. He also drove a school bus for 25 years-- “oh those 4:00 am mornings” rain or shine. This made him an early riser for many years even after he retired from SAISD after 35 years of service.

When not teaching or coaching, he loved fishing and hunting with his family and friends (along with the occasional poker game where the loser had to go out and hunt). There were those Colorado summer trips with his coaching buddies that brightened his eyes every time he recalled them, and don’t forget the dominoes and rodeos. Around town he was often greeted by former students with a friendly “You were my favorite teacher!” and a big hug would follow.

After retirement, Tommy and Alice enjoyed trips to Europe, Alaska, and many other beautiful places. Pops and Granna enjoyed attending the grandkids softball, football, and baseball games.

Tommy was a faithful member of Saint Ambrose Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, taught high school CCD, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed making and selling festival sausage and cooking for weddings. He also made time to help with Meals on Wheels and attend the Senior Citizens monthly domino gatherings.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Alice Hoelscher Ayers, his son Jeffrey Ayers, daughter Jullie Allison (Robert), grandchildren Wyatt Allison, Reagan Ayers and Lincoln Ayers, sister-in-law Betty Jean Halfmann (Delbert), nephews Darrell Halfmann (Danielle), Scotty Halfmann (Tana), Ricky Halfmann (Becky), Ryan Ayers, nieces Sherri Spruiell (TC), Jennifer Seidenberger (John) and many great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jerry and Larry Ayers, his in-laws, Lawrence and Alma Hoelscher and his brother-in-law Jerome Hoelscher.

“Pops” we will miss you and look forward to seeing you in Heaven. When a thunderstorm rolls through, we will know you made it up there, found a domino game to join in on and are shaking the next hand.

There will be a rosary held on September 13, 2024, at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial is being held at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church at 10:30 AM on September 14, 2024.

Memorials can be made to Saint Ambrose Cemetery Fund, The Pregnancy Help Center of San Angelo, or the Memorial of your choice.
