Johnny Pat Watkins

05/21/2026 - 09:40 , by TKing09

Johnny Pat Watkins, 75, was born May 11, 1951, in San Angelo, Texas, and passed away May 14, 2026. He resided in Big Lake, Texas. A man widely beloved for his steady honesty, genuine spirit, and compassionate generosity, Johnny’s life was marked by devotion—to his family, his community, and his faith.

Born and raised on a ranch outside of Big Lake, TX, Johnny was the son of Patsy and James Lawson Watkins. He grew up alongside his older brother, William Lawson Watkins, learning early the value of hard work and the plainspoken strength that would remain with him throughout his life.

JP joined the United States Navy and served from 1969 to 1973. In retirement, he returned to the work he knew best—working on the ranch, building his family, and taking trips he enjoyed deeply, especially to Las Vegas. Whether at home or away, he carried with him a grounded presence and a quiet confidence that made others feel welcome and at ease.

In July 1975, Johnny married Virginia Lucille Pennington. Together they raised their son, Cody John Watkins, and their daughter, Lori Viola Watkins. Family meant the world to him, and anyone who came by to visit could see it immediately—his day was brighter for the simple gift of company, and his care for others was expressed in practical, generous ways.

JP loved to travel with family and delighted in the time spent together. He was exceptional at playing pool and Monopoly, and he was known for being extremely lucky—an attribute he wore with a humble grin rather than pride. If he wasn’t outside dealing with his cattle, he was loading up the truck to go fishing, always ready to trade the day’s worries for open water and good conversation.

Throughout his life, Johnny harbored a great love for Christ and worked to instill that love into his family. His faith showed itself not only in words, but in the way he lived—steadfast, giving, and sincere. If any child asked him, he would support their education no matter what, reflecting a generosity that sought to lift others and a belief that opportunity should be met with encouragement.

A cowboy through and through, JP was known for teaching his family the right ways to ranch and to “rub some dirt in it” when they got hurt—an expression of resilience delivered with care. He often reminded those around him to “slow down, you’ve got all the time in the world,” and met life with the calm acceptance of “it is what is.” His outlook was practical, his humor plain, and his love unmistakable. He believed, “why hoard when you can give to your family,” and lived that conviction with open hands and an open heart. Even in discomfort, he could shrug and say, “I’ve had worse scratches in my eyeball,” and when the moment called for it, his invitation was simple and sincere: “let’s go fishing.”

Left to cherish Johnny's memory are his son, Cody Watkins and wife Coral; grandchildren, Cheyenne Marie Watkins, Caitlynn Mackenzie Watkins, and Colton James Watkins; daughter, Lori Viola Watkins; and nieces, Kelly Moore and Tobi Davis.

Johnny’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Belcher Family of Reagan County, the DeSalme Family, and anyone who came by to give love and support.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM - 1PM with funeral services to begin at 1PM on Thursday May 21, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Big Lake, TX. Interment will follow at Stiles Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Chad Armstrong, DA Tinney, Matt DeSalme, Steven Turner, Robert Knight, and Casey Bynum. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Rusty Adams, Tooter Jameson, Shawn Adams, and David Matt Armstrong.

Arletta M. Hendrix

05/21/2026 - 09:33 , by TKing09

Arletta M. Hendrix, 94, of San Angelo, Texas passed away May 11, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 2, 1932 in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. A beloved and cherished presence to those who knew her, Arletta will be remembered with deep respect for a life marked by steadfast faith, devoted love, and resilient strength.

Arletta was, in every sense, “cut from a different cloth”—a unique woman whose quiet determination and hard-working spirit carried her through each season of life. A faithful Catholic with a special devotion to Mother Mary, she was a long-time member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, where her enduring commitment and reverence were evident to all who worshipped alongside her.

On December 8, 1949, Arletta married Odie L. Hendrix in Lawton, Oklahoma. Their marriage was a devoted partnership that remained strong until his passing in 2013 - days after their 64th wedding anniversary. As an army wife and young mother, Arletta worked tirelessly to support her family—babysitting neighborhood children and selling Avon with the same steady resolve she brought to everything she did. Later, she began a career at Levi Straus, where she retired after 17 years as a machine operator, earning admiration through her reliability, perseverance, and pride in honest work.

Arletta’s love for family was a pillar of her life, and her care was expressed in the everyday moments that become lifelong memories. She delighted in jigsaw puzzles—always with the firm expectation that not a single piece would go missing. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and teaching her daughters and grandchildren how to crochet, passing along both skill and patience stitch by stitch. She loved playing card games and was an avid reader who read every night to her daughters and later to her grandchildren, offering comfort, closeness, and the gift of time.

In the community, Arletta was a familiar and warmly recognized figure—regularly seen at Zentner's Daughter Steakhouse, Dunbar, Franco's, and later Golden Corral, often remembered for her signature braided pigtails. Even today, people still ask about her, a testament to the impression she left through simple kindness, faithful presence, and a spirit that could not be forgotten. When it was time to part, she had her own cherished way of saying goodbye—blowing kisses, sending love ahead of her even as she left the room.

Arletta’s legacy is carried forward in the lives she shaped—through faith, devotion, and the enduring example of a woman who loved deeply, worked hard, and remained steadfast. Her memory will be held close by her family, and by all who were fortunate to know her.

Arletta was preceded in death by her father, Frank J. Thomas; mother, Mary W. Thomas; husband, Odie; daughter, Mary A. Goff; and son in law, Donald R. Goff.

Arletta is survived by her daughter, Linda Frankum and husband, Paul; grandchild, Christy Grelle and husband Brent; great grandchildren, Samantha Grelle and Jacob Grelle; grandchild, Steven Lane Goff; grandchild, Kathy Muldrew and husband Jason; great grandchild, Benjamin Goff and wife Maggie Goff; grandchild, Beth Frankum; great grandchild, Mel Kennedy and partner Ivonne Muñoz; great grandchild, James Kennedy and partner Dhalia Butchee; and grandchild, Robert Frankum. Arletta also leaves behind her nephew, Michel Benton and wife Soosan; and her nephew, Bill Benton and his family.

The Hendrix family would like to thank Arletta's church family at Holy Angels and long-time friend Fr. Charles Greenwell for their continued prayers, words of encouragement and support; as well as Preferred Home Health and High Plains Hospice for the compassion and care they gave Arletta throughout her health journey.

A memorial mass will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the Hendrix family asks that a memorial donation in Arletta's name be made to a charity of your choice.

Jesse Edgar Stanford

05/21/2026 - 09:28 , by TKing09

Jesse "Jess" Edgar Stanford of San Angelo passed away May 17, 2026 at the age of 94. He was born March 13, 1932 in Bellevue, Texas, to parents Edgar Lee and Flora (Shelley) Stanford.

As the third of four children, Jess lived a rugged life during the Depression during which he learned early to ride horses, attended the Methodist church where his father pastored, and held an assortment of jobs including shining shoes, delivering milk, and many other odd jobs. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950 and went on to community college before studying business and ROTC at Southern Methodist University, where he graduated in 1954. While working in the SMU cafeteria, he met Brooks Robinson, whom he later married and with whom he had four kids. Upon graduation, his first commission in the Air Force during the Vietnam War landed him at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas. From there he moved to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where all four of his children were born. The Air Force relocated him abroad to the Philippines as well as stateside at the NSA in Maryland, Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, and then to Wright-Patterson AFB outside Fairborn, Ohio.

Every move became a family adventure. The move to the Philippines was a cruise filled with costumes from Gone with the Wind. The trek to Maryland involved a ride on the Chattanooga Choo-Choo while the move from Maryland to San Angelo became an RV adventure. From the heavy snows of Ohio that followed the family all the way to Bronte before arriving in San Angelo, Jess "Dad" made travel fun. He retired in May 1978 after twenty-three years in the military, through which he achieved the rank of Colonel, and returned with his family to San Angelo.

Not one to remain idle, Jess acquired a position as Personnel Director for the City of San Angelo due to his business acumen and personnel experience. He was later promoted to Assistant City Manager under the direction of Stephen Brown. He worked for the City of San Angelo for twenty-three years and kept in touch with former colleagues at his weekly lunches after his retirement in 2001. Even then, Jess, who exhibited an unmatched work ethic, decided that selling real estate was another way to serve others. After serving in the military for twenty-three years and working for the City for twenty-three years, Jess sold real estate for yet another twenty-three years, well into his eighties. Prior to his retirement from the City of San Angelo, he met up with his former secretary, Glenda. After a sweet and dazzling courtship, the two married on September 5, 1998.

Throughout his life, he remained passionate about his involvement at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Among a host of activities, he devoted his time to the search committee for new priests as well as dedicating his efforts as a Vestry member. Clearly, caring for others was a hallmark of Jess’s life both professionally and personally.

Jess is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Glenda Stanford and by his four children Patrick Wade Stanford and his wife Brenda; Michael Jay Stanford and his wife Elizabeth; Wendy Leigh Stanford-Pierce; Gary Alan Stanford and his wife Catherine, and his stepson Robert J. Fuller and his wife Jo. Additionally, Jess is survived by seven grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Brandy Stanford, Virginia Stanford, Michael Acosta, Adriana Hernandez, Sydney Pierce, Tori Pierce Cadwallader, Casey Pierce, Kelsie Stanford Morales, Bethany Stanford Frailey, and Kyle J. Fuller. Jess is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.

Though Jess was the last of Edgar and Flora Stanford's children, he is also survived by his nephews and nieces Travis Tadlock, Elaine White, Carolyn Saul, Jon Stanford, and Jena Siedler.

Jess is predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Sue Tadlock and Arvalee Saul and his brother Paul Stanford.

Services to commemorate the life of Jesse E. Stanford will be held Friday, May 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in San Angelo, Texas, officiated by Father Matt Rowe and followed by a reception in the Parish Hall and a graveside service with military honors at Fairmount Cemetery. Harper Funeral Services will be handling funeral arrangements.

The family would greatly appreciate all gifts or memorials to be directed to Emmanuel Episcopal Church where Jess served His Lord with his gifts and abilities.

Dee Sims, 83, born Lewis Lea McKenzie on January 18, 1943, in Fort Stockton, Texas, passed away at his home in Frost, Texas, on May 13, 2026. Paula Dee Moorman Sims, 75, of Wall, Texas, born February 9, 1951, to James Dudley Moorman and Elsie Corine Smith Moorman, passed away at their home in Frost, Texas, on May 17, 2026. Together they shared a life built on faithfulness, family, aviation, farming, and an unwavering commitment to one another all the way to the end.

At just three years old, Dee experienced the loss of his mother, Mary Lou Sims McKenzie, who passed away while giving birth to a younger sibling. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Henry Roy Sims and Twylah Capps Sims, whom he called Mom and Dad for the rest of his life.

After flying with his father, Dee’s passion for aviation began early. At the age of 12, he climbed into a plane while his parents were away and took off on his own. When they returned, they found him circling the landing strip trying to land. With calm instruction over a two-way radio, his father talked him down, and Dee landed the airplane perfectly—beginning a lifelong love of flying that would shape much of his future.

Dee became an aerial applicator and a farmer, dedicating more than 50 years to the profession he loved. Alongside him every step of the way was Paula, the heart behind the business operations and the steady force that helped build Three Rivers Flying Service into a successful family business. Paula also shared Dee’s love for aviation and learned to fly early in their marriage.

In 1974, Dee and Paula married and spent 52 years building a life together centered around hard work, devotion, family, and partnership. Paula was Dee’s biggest fan and the protector of his heart, while Dee was deeply kind, fiercely loving of Paula, and often the calm to her storm. Together they raised their children, built businesses, and created a home grounded in love and loyalty.

Dee and Paula are survived by their children: Tamara Delz of Marble Falls, Texas; Monte Sims of San Angelo, Texas; Marla Gilmore and husband Scott Gilmore of Shallowater, Texas; Shelli Carter and husband Sean Carter of San Angelo, Texas; and Janice Elmore and husband Joel Elmore of Frost, Texas. Together they were blessed with multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

They are also survived by Paula’s brother, Mark Moorman and wife Julie of San Angelo, Texas; Dee’s brother, Rex McKenzie and wife Mary; and his sisters, Linda Webb of Bakersville, Texas, and Jody Ozier and husband Mike of New Braunfels, Texas.

Dee and Paula were preceded in death by their parents, Roy Neal McKenzie and Mary Lou Sims McKenzie, James Dudley Moorman and Elsie Corine Smith Moorman, and the parents who raised Dee, Henry Roy Sims and Twylah Capps Sims; Dee’s brother, Ellis Neal McKenzie; Dee’s sister, Marilyn Gladson and husband Norman Gladson; Dee’s brother-in-law, Ben Webb; along with numerous beloved family members and friends who welcomed them home.

Dee and Paula spent most of their lives in San Angelo, Texas, where they were members of Calvary Baptist Church, before spending their final years together in Frost, Texas. They will be remembered for their strength, adventurous spirit, unmatched work ethic, and the deep love and loyalty they shared with each other.

A graveside service for Dee and Paula Sims will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, condolences may be sent to:

05/18/2026 - 09:11 , by TKing09

Jayden Levi Harris born May 22, 2009, in Lone Tree, CO and then came to San Angelo, passed away at the age of 16 on May 11, 2026, in San Angelo.

Jayden was an incredible young man. He impacted everyone he met. He had a contagious laugh and smile that made everyone around him smile. He had a very generous and giving heart. In fact, his heart was so generous, that he chose to be an organ donor at the early age of 14 after speaking extensively with his mom about it. Many people are benefitting from the decision Jayden made a few years ago.

Jayden's heart extended to his cat, Scat, who he won over despite her inclination towards biting every other family member. Jayden's face was her favorite nap spot, and he affectionately allowed it; even though he was allergic to her.

Jayden cheered on the Colorado Avalanche hockey team with his mom. He loved to go to the shooting range with his Grandpa Les. He was on SACA's swim team and loved to be in the water! Jayden also had a love for video games and Snapchat filters!

He also participated in Leadership Training for Christ every Easter weekend. He loved doing the drama skit and was really good at it.

Jayden made everyone laugh so hard that it was difficult for the other cast members to keep a straight face during the performance.

Jayden loved his friends and was well-loved by them all. He had an intense love for his family and most of all he loved giving his little brother a hard time!

Jayden is survived by his mom, Shannon Harris, brother Jaxon Harris, and sister Jasmyn Harris. Maternal grandparents, Les & Karen West, uncles Nathan West (Nok), Jared West, and Aunt Elizabeth Vogelmann (Kevin). His father Jason Harris, paternal grandmother Donna Gary, Uncle Corey Gary, several cousins and too many friends to count.

The family requests that memorial donations in memory of Jayden be given to San Angelo Christian Academy.
