Ford Mary Ware

Mary Ware Ford, 91, passed quietly from this life to the comfort of her Lord to reunite with her precious family, on Tuesday, January 7th at Regency House. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charles and Ruth Kilpatrick Ware, her daughter Sharon Ford Tackett, and her precious granddaughter Rhonda Ann Tackett.

Mary graduated from Central High School and attended San Angelo College. Her career choice was banking, but Mary always dreamed of becoming a lawyer. Her banking career began at San Angelo National Bank, on January 2, 1945. She became Vice President of the Loan Department and retired in August 1987, after 42 years of service.

Mary was very involved in her church, Sacred Heart Cathedral. She loved going to mass and was very active in her prayer and rosary group. She served on the school board of Angelo Catholic School and prepared many a meal for various parish functions.

Mary is survived by her special church family that she held so dear and her extended cousins. John Childers and Janice Pelzel were her caregivers and attended to her needs after Sharon’s death on June 28, 2011. She considered John her most trusted friend in business matters, especially in her latter years. Janice provided transportation and shopping duty for Mary after she moved into Rio Concho Terrace.

Rosary will be Friday, January 10, at Robert Massie Chapel at 7:00 p.m.. Graveside services will be Saturday, January 11, at Calvary Cemetery at 10:00 a.m.. Deacon Frankie Aguirre, Deacon Steve Zimmerman and Deacon Tom Giovinette will officiate.

Palacio Evaristo Montes

Evaristo Montes Palacio Sr., 49, went to be with our Lord on January 7, 2014. He was a long time resident of San Angelo Texas. Evaristo was known to all his buddies as Varo and Prieto. 


He was born November 26, 1964, in Poso de Calbo Coahuila, Mexico to Jose and Carmen Palacio. He married his long time sweetheart Angel Sanchez on November 10, 1990 in Runnels County. 

Evaristo (Varo) is survived by his loving wife Angel, Together they were blessed with three children, Evaristo Jr., Mark Anthony and Gabriella Palacio all of San Angelo; he also leaves behind his loving grandson, Trae Palacio of San Angelo, and Alex and Veronica Palacio of Mexico. He is survived by his mother, Carmen Palacio, his sisters Maria del Rosario, Ermelinda ,Irma; and his brothers Sirilo, Leonardo, Julian, Jose, and Eriberto Palacio. Varo was preceded in death by his Father Jose Palacio and his Maternal Grandparents, Cresencia and Cornelio Martinez. He also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces. Evaristo was known to all his buddies as Varo and Prieto. 

He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Varo was a very active outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and loved to cook and grill. He enjoyed being with his friends, cooking and having fun. "What happens at the barn stays at the barn." 

He was employed by Lone Star Beef LLC for 20 years as a kill floor supervisor. Varo will be missed by all his family and friends. 

Viewing will be 12:00 to 8:00pm Thursday January 9, 2014 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. 

Prayer service will be 7:00pm Thursday January 9, 2014 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. 

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Friday January 10, 2014 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Minister Javier Fernandez, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the directions of Robert Massie Funeral Home. 

Pallbearers will be his long time work and family friends; Elias Torres Jr., Chuck Jones, Roy Heiple, Rodrigo (Rigo) Ramirez Jr., Tereso Cardenas and Mike Montoya. 

The Palacio family would like to thank all of the friends and relatives for their support and prayers during Varo’s illness. They would also like to express their appreciation to the medical staff at San Angelo Community Medical Center and to Our Lone Star Beef family especially the Torrez and the John Cross Families. 

“Now the door is open, the world we know is broken, our hearts are not scared, just knowing you’re out there watching us, so believe we’ll be here waiting, hoping, praying, that the light will guide you home, hidden in the sun for when the darkness comes”

Johnston Bernice (Rosie)

Bernice Johnston, 95, a longtime resident of San Angelo, passed away on January 6, 2014 in Austin, Texas. Born in Ada, Oklahoma on November 11, 1918, Rosie graduated from Ropesville, TX High School where she played on the basketball team. She graduated from Texas Technological College in Lubbock with P.E. and Spanish as her major and Education as a minor.

Rosie is survived by her daughters Carolyn Johnston Frost and her husband, Eldon, of McKinney, Texas and Janice Johnston Williston and her husband, Chris, of Austin; four grandchildren and their spouses, Julie Frost Ausere' and husband, Mike of Hartford, Connecticut, Laura Frost Stevenson and husband, Steve, of Greenville, South Carolina, Erin Williston Bloss and husband John of Austin, and Christopher Williston VI and wife, Michelle of Austin. Rosie, affectionately known as "Nanny" by her grandchildren, is also survived by twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including Billy Johnston of Water Valley, Texas and Dr. Gary Rose of the Houston area.

Mrs. Johnston was married to the late Charles M. Johnston. Together they owned and managed Johnston's Homestead Supply in San Angelo for many years. She worked for the San Angelo Standard Times during WWII, taught school in Water Valley, Texas and substituted in the San Angelo ISD. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, San Angelo.

Mrs. Johnston moved to Austin in the mid-1990s and was a resident of The Renaissance Senior Residence and The Summit at Lakeway.

Services are at 11:00 A.M. Thursday January 9, 2014 at the chapel of First United Methodist Church of San Angelo with a reception at the church to follow. 

The family requests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 37 E. Beauregard Ave. San Angelo, TX 76903, Heart to Heart Hospice, 4009 Banister Lane, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78704 or the charity of your choice.

Kolster Joan Palladino

Joan Palladino Kolster went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 5, 2014. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 27, 1944. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, John Henry (Pete) Kolster, Jr. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Michael Palladino, and her brother Frank Palladino. Joan grew up in Elmont, Long Island, and always remembered enjoying a wonderful life filled with many blessings from the Lord. The next best thing was meeting her husband, Pete, while she was traveling cross-country and pulling into a service station in El Paso, Texas where he worked. She always claimed it was the Lord's doing that brought them together. Joan had a 36- year career with Mobil Oil Corporation and retired with them on March 1 2000. She and her husband both became born again Christians in 1995 and joined the Harvest Baptist Church after moving back to San Angelo, Texas, in 2001. Their church family has been a blessing during Joan's illness in addition to the support and love they received from family and friends. Pallbearers are Jerrel Harmon, Tim Carter, Ben Koca, Kyle Koca, George Tullos, Mel Shull, Robert Pharris, and Martin Koca. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Weeaks and David O'Dell. Special thanks to Dr. Dawn Gonzalez for her support and care during this difficult time. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Harvest Baptist Church, 2021 Austin Street in San Angelo with Pastor Ron Patterson officiating. Burial will be at Midway Cemetery on Arden Road. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Harvest Baptist Church of San Angelo. Family and friends may sign the online register book at www.johnsons-funeralhome.com.
