Billie Jean Bass, 79, of San Angelo, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2013.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00am Friday, April 18, 2014, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in the mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2013 at Johnsons Funeral Home.
Billie Jean Bass was born in Beaver County Oklahoma, October 10, 1934. She grew up in a small community, of Balko, where she attended school. Billie was the third child of Robert and Wanda Duff. She had one sister, Roberta Sanger and one brother, Frankie Duff and she was the younger of the three. Billie graduated from Balko High School, May 1953, in a class of 16 friends.
After graduation, she moved to Guymon, OK with a school friend and classmate, and was employed by GTE, in the fall. As time went by, she met and married Roy Joe Bass, on April 23, 1954. They lived in several small towns in Oklahoma and Texas while both being employed with GTE and raising Kids.
Billie and Joe raised four wonderful children, one son, Roger Bass and three daughters, Karen Alston, Jo Lynn Harrison and Sharon Murphy. Billie was a fine MOM and enjoyed life, and she loved those children and grand-children.
In 1980, Joe and Billie moved to San Angelo, Texas, where they chose to stay after retirement from GTE. They loved to travel some but also loved living comfortable at their home in San Angelo.
Billie is survived by her four children Roger Dale Bass of San Angelo; Karen Lee Alston and husband Gary of Wheeler, Texas; Jo Lynn Harrison and husband Brett of San Angelo; Sharon Kay Murphy and husband Norman of San Angelo; grandchildren Jason Bass of Lawton, OK, Dee Alston of Wheeler, TX, Terrance Harrison and Shawna Murphy and Shannon Murphy of San Angelo; three great-grandchildren Austin Walters of Guymon, OK; Tyranny Bass of Lawton, OK and Myra Bass of Lawton, OK; one niece Carol Siefkes & husband Dave of Georgetown, TX, great-nephews Darren Siefkes and Craig Siefkes of Austin, TX, and nephews Greg Duff of Amarillo, TX and Kelly Duff of Spokane, WA.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents Robert Duff and Wanda Duff Claybrook; her beloved husband Roy Joe Bass, grandson Taylor Harrison; brother Frankie Duff and sister Roberta Sanger.
The Family wishes to extend a Special Thank You to the Shannon ER staff; all the present and past Caregivers who watched over and cared for Billie at the Park Plaza - Cedar Manor Special Care Unit. Also thanks to Odyssey Hospice of San Angelo. Special thanks also to Harvest Baptist Church for your prayers and Pastor - Ron Patterson for his attention during the family's times of need and support.
