01/07/2014 - 21:18 , by johnb
Lorraine Jenkins passed away on January 5, 2014, at the age of 91. Lorraine was born to William Wheeler and Grace (Sherrod) Wheeler in Blackwell, OK. She is survived by her 2 daughters: Beth Ann Ashmore and Mary Kay Hohertz and husband Ron Hohertz; 3 grandchildren: Jaton Giese and her husband Doug, Samantha Rosas and her husband Ronnie and John Allbright and his wife Dana; and great grandchildren: Jace Giese, Miles Giese, Ryann Rosas, Rance Rosas, Ayden Allbright and Summer Allbright - all of San Angelo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen Jenkins, her brother William Wheeler, Jr., her son-in-law Vance Ashmore and her great granddaughter Kalai' Allbright.

Lorraine grew up in McCamey, TX. She was the head drum major during high school. She always loved music and dance and was even offered a job teaching dance. She moved to San Angelo where she did a wonderful job, raising her 2 daughters, alone. She got her cosmetology license and then went to work at GTE for 30+ years. She enjoyed making people smile. She played Santa Clause for many years at work during Christmas time and always had a Christmas party at home for friends and family.

Lorraine was member at First Christian Church of San Angelo. She was a lifetime member with the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing the piano, organ and slot machines. She also enjoyed doing arts and crafts and going to Hobby Lobby.

The family would like to thank Hospice for her care during her last year of life.

Graveside services will be Thursday, January 9th, at 2:00 pm, in the Mertzon Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Jim Stanley of Angelo Bible Church. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home.

Nystedt Donald Edwin

01/07/2014 - 21:08 , by johnb

Donald Nystedt, former Cherokee resident, passed away at age 88, in San Angelo, Texas on January 6, 2014. Donald was born in 1925 on his family's farm near Larrabee.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during WW2, he and his wife Alta moved to Cherokee, where they owned and operated Nystedt's Piano House for many years. During that time Don and Alta developed many lifetime friendships, were involved with many community affairs, and were continuously active members of St. Paul's Methodist Church. In 1970, they moved themselves and their business to College Station, Texas, but maintained long-term friendships with many Cherokee area residents. Donald was a Master Piano Craftsman, and by the time he retired in 1988, he had tuned, repaired, and restored thousands of pianos.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Alta; daughter Cynthia Poulson of San Angelo and son Marc (and wife Diana) of Helotes, TX; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Shirleen (and husband Milt) Madden of Eugene, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in San Angelo. Johnson's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
