The thermal gradient remains fairly impressive for August allowing the airmass to remain quite warm with temperatures around 110 degrees this afternoon.
Tuesday will mark the 50th day in 2023 that San Angelo has had temperatures reach above 100 degrees and there are potentially another 30 days on the way.
High temperatures, gusty winds and tinder dry fuels have created the perfect storm for wildfires across all of West Texas and have issued a Red Flag Warning for Monday afternoon along with the Excessive Heat Warning already in place.
The Excessive Heat Warning is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and could be extended each day through Sunday as a stubborn ridge of high pressure continues to dominate weather across the region.
August has arrived in West Texas in typical fashion with excessive heat and extremely dry conditions and the National Weather Service has issued both a Rangeland Fire Danger statement and an Excessive Heat Warning for the Concho Valley and surrounding areas that could stretch through most of the week.
