SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the Concho Valley and Northern Edwards Plateau on Monday, Dec. 30, due to the combination of warm temperatures, gusty winds, and low humidity. The watch is in effect from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Monday’s conditions are expected to bring west winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, afternoon highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s, and humidity dropping into the critical 10% to 15% range. These factors heighten the risk of fire spread. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning, refrain from driving on dry grass, and ensure vehicle chains are not dragging.
Currently, Sunday is offering calm weather in the region, with mostly sunny skies and highs reaching the mid-70s to around 80°F. Winds are light, ranging from 5 to 10 mph, providing a pleasant day before the windier conditions set in.
The extended forecast predicts cooler temperatures starting Tuesday as a cold front moves through the area. Highs will fall to the mid-50s to mid-60s, with morning lows in the 30s. Seasonably cool conditions will persist through midweek, accompanied by sunny skies and lighter winds.
