SAN ANGELO, TX — A dense fog advisory is in effect for portions of the Northwest Hill Country and the Heartland, with visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less through 10 a.m. Friday.
The advisory warns of hazardous driving conditions and recommends the use of low-beam headlights, extra travel time, and caution on the roads.
A weak cold front is sweeping through west-central Texas, bringing patchy morning fog and mostly sunny skies later in the day. Highs will range from the upper 50s in the north to the lower 70s in the south, with light north winds shifting southeast by the afternoon.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain above normal through Saturday before a stronger cold front arrives Sunday. This front is expected to usher in significantly colder weather, with below-normal temperatures and freezing conditions likely each night early next week.
Forecasters are monitoring the potential for winter weather from January 8-9. The most likely scenario, with a 65% chance of occurring, predicts cold and dry conditions with lows in the 20s and highs in the 30s and 40s. A less likely scenario, with a 35% chance, could bring snow and even colder temperatures, though chances for measurable snowfall remain below 50%.
