Robert "Bob" Warren Mullins

07/28/2022 - 08:10 , by TKing09

Bob Mullins was a loving Husband, Father and Papa. He passed away after he beat the odds, like a cat with nine lives. In his life, he was buried alive, was in country during the Vietnam War, beat cancer, heart issues and a list of illnesses that would have taken most men. He never stopped smiling through them all and always acted like there was nothing to worry about.

Bob served proudly and was a highly decorated United States Air Force Veteran that honorably served his country for 20 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1989.

Working for Howard Book at City Farm meant so much to him. He often said that Howard was a lot like him, in that they weren’t afraid of hard work and both valued being a family man and their belief in God. He believed younger men didn’t understand but Howard did.

Bob had a Love-Hate relationship with old cars. He loved them, but taught his son that cussing while working on them was essential to fix them properly.

Bob had a unique ability to overpay for most things and we all accepted that the buy high-sell low curse is also in his children’s DNA.

He loved to talk and never met a stranger. Story time with Papa is something that none of us will forget. We have all heard the same stories at least a thousand times. The stories evolved over the years to add humor. At this point, none of us remember what really happened, just the version he shared as we all laughed.

He was a kind and generous man and he willingly and regularly gave of himself. Whether it be his time, his wealth of knowledge or a material gift, he never hesitated to share and help in any way possible.

He was the kind of guy that has done everything and wasn’t impressed by much. If you knew him, he had all the answers that Google didn’t. Even if it was wrong, none of us could prove it so it made sense to just go with it.

Bob had many chapters in his life. Veteran, farmer, even a lit bit biker and cowboy. His love of his life, as he called them, Furkids were well known and he spent many hours with one of them on his lap. He was known for coming up with unique names and the two that are missing him right now are Oscar Meyer and Cocobear.

The most important chapter of his life was as a Husband, Father and Papa. His children knew they could come to him with any problems. You could see the love in his eyes for all of them.

His wife, Wilma has been with him through healthy times and some serious illnesses. He knew she had his back as he had hers. They were best friends and were often told by others that they hoped their relationships could be as good as theirs.

When he was told he had esophageal cancer and had had six months to live, he made it his plan to make sure Wilma was taken care of and he accomplished it. They don't make them like this anymore and they definitely broke the mold after him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Edna Mullins, brothers, Clayton (Fuddle) and Eddie Mullins and sister Patsy Weisinger.

Bob is survived by his wife of almost 32 years, Wilma Mullins, his son Brian Mullins and daughter-in-law Brandi Mullins, his daughter Melissa Mullins Hartmankok and son-in-law Jeff Hartmankok. Brother Orville (Moon) Mullins, Sisters Anna Garner, Linda Centeno and Rosa Souza. Grandchildren, Matthew Lowery, Collin Mullins, Shaylynn Lis, Mikayla Strickland, Kaitlan DeSoto, Amanda Strickland, Brooklin Mullins and Kamerlin Mullins, Great grandchildren, Jaxson Lowery, Aunalee Lis and Aurelia Mullins, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022, from 4:00-7:00pm at Harper Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 10:00am at Harper Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 2:00pm at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, TX.

Joel Dean "J.D." Koehn

07/28/2022 - 08:06 , by TKing09

J.D. Koehn passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 27th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Harpers Funeral Home, San Angelo Texas. Celebration of Life will be at First Christian Church on Thursday, July 28th, 10:00 a.m.

J.D. was born to Richard and Lorene Wood Koehn on March 2, 1953, in Houston, Texas. J.D. graduated from C.E. King High School in 1971.

It was then that J.D. began his amazing college basketball career at Angelo State University, where he excelled holding numerous records and made life-long friends. Thank you, Phil George, for getting that Houston boy to West Texas.

After graduating from ASU in 1976, J.D. began his career as an educator at Lee Junior High. He had such a calming effect on his students, athletes, and colleagues, he was often referred to as the “Gentle Giant.”

In 1983, J.D. began working as a caseworker at West Texas Boys Ranch. He touched many lives there as well. He loved the Ranch and the principles for which it stood.

J.D. returned to Lee in 1991. He taught freshman history and completed his Master’s degree at ASU. Then, he became the assistant principal at Lincoln Middle School where he had such respect for the students, teachers, and staff. He loved his time there. After a few years, he came back home to Lee Junior High as an assistant principal, and eventually as principal.

J.D. was again admired and respected by everyone at Lee.

In 2008, J.D. retired for a second time from SAISD and returned to the Boys Ranch. He so enjoyed hearing from former students and ranch boys. They always told him that they would never forget him.

On March 18, 1978, J.D. married the love of his life, Kathy Box. In 1982, their daughter, Courtney, was born. J.D.’s life changed forever on that day. He was an amazing dad. He never missed a school program or an athletic event. She was his pride and joy. He was the perfect “girl dad.” His love for her was unconditional. He never missed a chance to brag on her.

Then came the grandchildren, Sutton and Hadley. Once again, J.D.’s pride shone through. He never missed their games or sporting events. He claimed “bragging” rights again.

They were lights of his life.

Courtney’s husband, Travis, was the son J.D. never had. They hunted together, and, to their delight, J.D. taught him to fly fish in Colorado. They were quite the pair. They had “fish stories” for every trip they made.

J.D. is survived by his wife, Kathy, his daughter, Courtney and husband Travis Young, his grandchildren, Sutton and Hadley Young, his sister Judy Lambert and husband John, his nephews, Jeremy, Joshua and Jonathan, brother-in-law Kyle Box and Pam, and niece and nephew Lindsay Beddow (Josh) and Patrick Box. We cannot forget Prada, his 3-pound Yorkie whom he adored.

“Nothing is so strong as gentleness, and nothing is as gentle as strength.”

Honorary pallbearers: Kyle Box, Phil George, Sam Lewis, Ronnie Smetana, Greg Benson and Travis Young.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Texas Boys Ranch or Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Thank you to Concho Valley Health & Rehab in Eden, Texas, San Angelo Nursing & Rehab, and Solaris Hospice for their continued care and compassion.

Edith Agnes Powers

07/25/2022 - 08:29 , by TKing09

Edith Agnes Powers passed from this earth peacefully at the age of 100 years on Friday, July 22, 2022, in San Angelo, Texas.

She was born on February 28, 1922, to Charles and Lona Lucas of Hamby, Texas. She was the oldest of two children. Agnes, as she was known to her many friends, married the love of her life, Weldon Kash Powers, on August 24, 1940, in Albany, Texas. They made their home in their early years on the family farm in Hamby, which she still owned when she passed away. Agnes and Kash welcomed three children into their family, a daughter Peggy followed by twin boys Donald and Ronald nine years later.
As their family grew, Agnes and Kash moved from Hamby to Abilene in the mid-1950s. Agnes was a beautician for many years as the children grew, then later worked for the State Health Department, retiring in the mid-1980s.

Agnes and Kash were believers and raised their family in church. They were members at the Hamby Baptist Church as a young married family. When they moved to Abilene, they served faithfully for decades at Immanuel Baptist Church, and later, they worshipped at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
After living in Abilene for 93 years, Agnes moved to San Angelo in 2015 and made her home at Baptist Retirement Community. At the time of her death, Agnes was a member of First Baptist Church, San Angelo.

Agnes had several hobbies which she loved. She and Kash were avid “42” players and later traded in their dominos for bridge cards. She played bridge with a group of ladies from her church after Kash “retired” from bridge and dominos. Later in life, Agnes developed a love for painting fine china. She loved the entire process of creating beauty, from a white plate to a kiln-fired finished piece of art. Her home was adorned with many pieces of her china work.

Agnes is survived by her children, Peggy Manning and husband, Royce, of Abilene; Donald Powers and wife, Leslie, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; and Ronald Powers and wife, Becky, of San Angelo. She is also survived by one grandson Brad Manning of Hudson Oaks, Texas, and two great-grandsons, Jacob and Samuel Manning of Austin, Texas.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Baptist Retirement Community, especially those at The Crest East, for the loving care given to Agnes over the past several years and those at Kindred Hospice who cared for her in her final days.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the Hamby Cemetery, where she will rest alongside her love Kash once again. Chaplain Kevin McSpadden will officiate.

Charlotte Rebecca Sharp Farmer

07/20/2022 - 13:52 , by TKing09

Charlotte Rebecca Sharp Farmer of San Angelo, Texas passed away peacefully in her home with her faithful four-legged companion, Sunny, by her side on Sunday July 17, 2021.

Charlotte was born on April 18, 1948 in Artesia, New Mexico to Chester Allen Boulden and Wanda Faye Milam. Charlotte grew up on a farm in Artesia, New Mexico. Charlotte married her high school sweetheart, John Sharp, in September of 1962. After getting married they settled in Roswell, New Mexico where they began raising their two children. Charlotte started her career in banking at a very young age while raising her family. In time, Charlotte and John went their separate ways. Charlotte and the kids moved to Texas expanding her career in mortgage banking in San Angelo and San Antonio. She enjoyed her career, but with the first grandchild on the way, she decided to leave banking behind and come back to San Angelo to be closer to family.

After returning to San Angelo, she began to work in property management for Duncan Investments. Charlotte became very active in the San Angelo Apartment Association, and decided to run for San Angelo City Council. She served 12 years on the city council and was very dedicated to bettering the city and life for its citizens. She worked on many projects for the city and spent years on the Ports to Plains Board, diligently working with people from Canada, Mexico and Washington, DC to get that project off the ground and running. The project she was most proud of in her term was the creation of the Texas Bank Sports Complex at Bell Street. She spent many years watching her grandchildren and others play at the former youth facilities of San Angelo, and knew San Angelo could do better. She worked many years to prove that better facilities for the youth of San Angelo also meant bringing in outside tax dollars that would benefit the city. It was a win for everyone. Charlotte was also very passionate about our armed forces, and never missed the chance to thank them for their service when the opportunity presented itself. Her hard work and dedication to the City of San Angelo earned her numerous awards, including the Woman of Distinction Award in 2010.

Though she loved her role on the City Council, the title she cherished the most, was “NANA”. She spent all her free time playing with or watching her grandkids. She met and married the second love of her life, John Farmer, in the summer of 1992. They were married for 17 years before John passed away in the fall of 2009. Those years were spent dedicated to enjoying family and the life they had built together. Charlotte’s favorite thing was to be with family. She was an avid music fan, loved to dance, and watch her grandkids in any and all their events. You could count on finding her in the pool, playing 42, cards, or poker any time she could get someone to sit at the table with her. She absolutely loved to cook for family gatherings and holidays, and it was a given she would cook enough food for three armies.

Charlotte and John Sharp met again in 2013 and rekindled the love and bonds they still shared together. They spent all their time together enjoying the family they had started so long ago until John passed in July of 2021.

Charlotte is survived by her brother William Boulden and wife Sandra of Artesia, New Mexico, her sister Loretta Hicks of San Angelo, Texas, her son Don Sharp of Robert Lee Texas, her daughter Becky Dyches and husband Jay of San Angelo. Her grandchildren Kayla Matthews & husband Mickey of San Angelo, Ashley Dyches of McKinney, Texas, Coby Dyches and wife Krysten of San Angelo, Texas, Starzy Lee and husband Rashad of Katy, Texas, Jonathan Britts and husband Ruan of Hughesville, Maryland, Aaron Sharp and wife Janelle of San Angelo, Texas. Nephews Craig Boulden of Artesia, New Mexico, Chad Boulden and wife Kelly of Weatherford, Texas, Kyle Hicks of Dallas, Texas and Brad Hicks of San Angelo, Texas. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Charlotte is preceded in death by both John Sharp and John Farmer, and both of her parents.

Services will be held at Harper Funeral Home on Saturday July 23rd, at 1:00 pm. There will be a family visitation at Harper Funeral Home on Friday July 22nd from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Services will be officiated by Pastor Mack Roller and Scott Cotton. In lieu of flowers please donate to Tunnel to Towers, St Jude’s, or a charity of your choice.
