Billye Jean House Ferguson passed away following a stroke at 6:15 am, September 16, 2022. She was the only child born to Marguerite Cole and William Watson House on July 24, 1925. As a young child, she lived in Sterling City, Texas before moving with her parents to Reagan County. She graduated from Reagan County High School, attended Hockaday School for Girls, and was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. Billye Jean House and Robert Boal Ferguson, Jr. were married June 24, 1948 in San Angelo, Texas. Robert died December 20, 1995.
Her family and the church came first in her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Big Lake for 74 years. Billye Jean Ferguson was a teacher in the Reagan County ISD Elementary School System from 1968 until 1974. She was a member of the Reagan Garden Club, Reagan County Historical Society, Trailblazers, and worked as a volunteer at the Hickman Museum.
She is survived by her children, son Robert Boal Ferguson III and wife Dina Robinson of San Antonio, son William Randolph Ferguson of Big Lake, and a daughter Lisa Jane Ferguson Thomas and husband Kent C. Thomas of Austin; grandchildren Katherine Reece Ferguson Boes and husband Dr. Matthew Boes of Raleigh, North Carolina, Elizabeth Jean Ferguson of Austin, William R. Ferguson II of Big Lake, Ross Watson Thomas and wife Jordan Miles of Round Rock, and Robert Reed Thomas of Atlanta, Georgia; and great-grandchildren Madeline Reece and Nina Elizabeth Boes of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Serving as pallbearers are; Will Ferguson, Ross Thomas, Reed Thomas, Matt Boes, Ronnie Dorsey, Scott Keane, Jared Holt and Heath Holt.
Honorary pallbearers are: Tim Sellman, Dan Loftin, Bill Strauss and Sammy Dodd.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 am, September 23, 2022, in the First United Methodist Church of Big Lake. The Rev. Mark Smith will officiate the service. Burial will be in Glenrest Cemetery in Big Lake, Texas.
