He was born May 18, 1971 in San Angelo to Margaret Robles and was loved by so many.

Ricky was well-known for his sense of humor, charismatic ways and various talents. From drawings to paintings and beautifying his projects; he very rarely started a project without completing it and loved to paint, therefore did this for many years as a profession. He loved spending time with his friend and family, sitting around listening to oldies music.

For him, his biggest accomplishments in life were his children and grandchildren! He absolutely loved spending time with them and just loving on them when he had the chance.

He never knew a stranger... Each time he went out, he came back with a new friend! He will be remembered most by his generous spirit and loving, humorous personality.

Ricky is preceded in death by his grandparents, Petra & Richard Robles.; Uncles, Armando Robles, Joe Robles, and Noe Robles; Aunt, Mary DelaRosa and Grandson, Adrian Muñoz.

He is survived by his mother and step father, Margaret & David Rodriguez of San Angelo; his brothers, Chris Fernandez and wife Grissell, Edward Fernandez and wife Samantha, and Robert Martinez, all of San Angelo; and sister, Monica Rayner and husband, Nathan of Newport News, Virginia; his daughters, Lorraine Capuchino and Victoria Capuchino, both of Austin; his sons, Zachary Capuchino of San Angelo, Christian Capuchino and fiancé, Evelyn Martinez, both of San Angelo; his grandchildren, Aden & Andrew Muñoz, Noah & Ava Gonzales, Selena Casas and Gloria Rae, all of Austin; Addalyn & Gianni Capuchino, and Ethan, Christian and Joseph Capuchino all of San Angelo. In addition, many nieces and nephews that all loved him immensely!

The family would like to thank the staff at Shannon Medical Center for caring for Ricky and a special thanks to those who remained by his side. Thank you to Armando and Cindy Navarro, Mandito Navarro, and Anita Diaz for comforting him, his mother, stepfather and siblings through his last moments!

Tom Hoggard

10/11/2022 - 08:45 , by TKing09

Tom Hoggard passed away August 25, 2022 at his home in Ozona, Texas. Tom was born on December 26, 1953 in Lamesa, Texas. Tom attended elementary school in Stanton, Texas, and later attended High School in Coahoma, Texas.

Tom’s adoptive father, Jett Hoggard and his mother, Mary Sue Hoggard, managed cotton gins in Mission, Stanton and Big Spring, Texas.

As a young boy, Tom worked beside his parents at the gin and was involved in the seasonal operation of the cotton gin developing many skills he would use the rest of his life.

Tom would tell everyone that he had a full time job since he was 6 years old! Even in elementary school, he would “fire” an occasional gin hand if according to Tom he “aggravated him”. He would go to his mom for a bank check, sign his first name, hand it to the gin hand and tell him “you’re fired...”. With much laughter the gin hand would return to work.

As a teenager, Tom moved irrigation pipe and did cowboy day work for local ranchers. Tom hauled his horse in a trailer he pulled behind a pickup he bought for himself when he was 12 years old. Tom showed paint horses and rode bulls in high school.

In 1971, Tom married Gwen Moore in Coahoma, Texas. Together they raised two sons, Thomas and Toby.

During that time Tom worked for his parents in a family excavation company. From there, Tom went to work for LG Nix supervising work at the Fina Oil Refinery (formerly Cosden) in Big Spring, Texas. Tom was known for being a good supervisor as well as one of the best heavy equipment operators in his area.

In 1995, Tom married Pam Perry, who had moved to Texas to work at the Fina Oil Refinery with her three daughters. They resided in Big Spring for about 10 years. Tom later went to work for Huntsman in Odessa, Texas for approximately 10 years. Then Tom went to work for S&B Engineering based in Houston, Texas.

Later, Tom started his own consulting company called Extramile Excavation overseeing projects for DKM Contracting, of Tyler, Texas and Saulsbury Industries, in Odessa, Texas. Tom considered it a privilege to oversee the construction of petrochemical plants, compressor stations and refinery expansions in California, Louisiana, Colorado, Wyoming and all over Texas. Tom worked his way through the ranks starting as a heavy equipment operator to the top dog on many multi million dollar job sites. Tom had much respect and gratitude to the men who trusted his expertise and gave him the opportunity to contribute to building the infrastructure that supports the US Oil Industry. Tom wrapped up his career working for Saulsbury Industries.

Tom also believed in “training his replacement”. When Tom saw dedication and potential he considered it his responsibility to come along side that young man and mentor him. Tom supervised hundreds of men and women from all backgrounds and parts of the world. He treated the people whom he was responsible for with respect and concern for their safety so all could return home to their families after work was completed.

Prior to his retirement, Tom and Pam purchased a ranch in Ozona, Texas. Tom and his best friend, Bullet a German Shepherd, spent many happy days on the ranch enjoying the beautiful scenery of the area south of Ozona.

Tom and his wife Pam had many adventures in their 27 years of marriage. Tom loved his wife, his family, his friends and loved sharing stories about them. The best thing about getting old together was Tom and Pam sharing grandkids and making memories with family.

Tom Hoggard was one of a kind. He was old school in a modern time. Tom loved God and was a follower of Jesus. Tom will not be forgotten. As written in a line from Tom’s favorite movie Lonesome Dove...Tom was “Cheerful in all weather... never shirked a task... splendid behavior”.

Tom is survived by his wife Pam; Son: Dr. Thomas (Nadia) Bening; Grandsons: Mason, Knox, Pike and Brix; Son: Toby (Brooke) Hoggard; Granddaughter: Victoria; Daughter: Christy (Joel) Dillingham; Grandson: Tate; Granddaughter: Carolyn; Daughter: Mary (Mitch) Kohout; Grandson: James, Christian (Gabbie) Winger; Great-Grandson: Landon; Great-Granddaughter: Lennon Rose; Daughter Chelsea (Aaron) Silbernagel; Grandson: Aidan Franco and Granddaughter: Aeva Franco.

Patricio "Pat" Sevier

10/06/2022 - 20:29 , by TKing09

Patricio "Pat" Sevier, 60, beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022.

Viewing will be from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Mass will be at 3:00 PM Friday, October 7, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Juan Lopez-Cortes, pastor, officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Sevier was born on July 8, 1962 in Ft. Worth to Celia and Victor G. Sevier. He graduated from San Angelo Lake View High School in 1980 and attended Angelo State University before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1984. Because of his superior intellect, he was selected to serve as an Electrical Technician in the prestigious Submarine Nuclear Defense Program for which he achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class.

After his time in the Navy, Pat settled in San Diego, California where he met and married Becky Klaudt. They moved to her home state of Washington and though they parted, Pat spent the majority of his adulthood in the Pacific Northwest. Pat earned an Associate Degree as a Machinist. He worked for a quartz manufacturing company, Weiss Manufacturing, where he refined his machinist skills. He utilized these skills while working as a Machining Technology Instructor at Vancouver Washington Clark Community College. He worked for the college for several years until he retired as a tenured Associate Professor in 2020.

After his retirement, Pat moved back to Texas and settled in Fort Worth where he spent much time and effort purchasing and renovating multiple properties. Pat often spoke about his goal to care for his mother, siblings, nieces, and nephews by leaving a home or property to each upon his passing. Incredibly, he met his goal; even though he did not get to see the deep, positive impact that his hard work made to his family's legacy.

Pat's intelligence, generosity, and wicked sense of humor were some of his finest qualities. He didn't just speak about caring for others, he lived it. In addition to his family members, his property renters, colleagues, and random strangers were often recipients of his generous support.

Pat loved to fish and spent many holidays and took family and friends on fishing expeditions with him. He also loved all things LEGOs. He owned countless boxes of them and sent many to his nieces and nephews and great niece and nephew. He never declined a LEGO challenge, even from his adult nephews.

Pat was raised in the Catholic Faith and received all of his sacraments. He served as an altar server in his youth. Though he seldom darkened the doorway of a church as an adult, he always attended mass with his mother, Celia, at her every request. And though he was not a church member, he spent his life living like a true Christian, deeply caring for his family and community.

Pat was preceded in death by his brother, David Ray Sevier in 2016, and Father, Victor G. Sevier.

He is survived by his mother, Celia Sevier of San Angelo; brother, Victor Sevier and wife Carla of Austin; two sisters, Angie Sevier of Austin; and Imelda Sevier Peterson and husband Roderick of Arlington; nieces and nephews, Tamara Munoz III and husband Arthur and great nephew, Arthur Patrick Munoz IV all of Austin; niece, Victoria Baker and husband Cody and great niece, Zelie Baker all of Austin; nephew, Aubrey Wellington "Wells" Peterson of Arlington, and nephew Alexander Rey Sevier of Fort Worth.

Pat was a quiet, intelligent, funny, generous, gentle giant of a man. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and many who knew him because to know Pat was to love him.

Donald W. "Don" Griffis

10/06/2022 - 20:20 , by TKing09

Don Griffis passed away on October 3, 2022 at the age of 80.

He was born in Lubbock, Texas on August 1, 1942 but grew up in San Angelo following the family’s move from Lubbock. Don attended college at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. While at Sewanee, he played football for four years and was on the unbeaten, untied 1963 team that was subsequently inducted into the Sewanee Football Hall of Fame. Don thrived in the atmosphere of learning while at Sewanee and graduated in 1964 with honors and Phi Beta Kappa.

Don went on to attend law school at the University of Texas. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Upon entering active duty, he was assigned to the legal office at Force Logistics Command in Vietnam. His duties included both legal service for the troops and trial work for the command, both as a defense counsel and as a prosecutor. He also volunteered to serve as the Commanding Officer for the camp’s Provisional Rifle Company, assigned to provide security and defense for the base. When he rotated home, Don was awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Action Ribbon and the Vietnamese Cross of Galantry.

When Don was discharged in 1969, he became a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Joe Estes in Dallas for a year and then returned to San Angelo to practice law with his father as a trial lawyer. Don enjoyed the practice of law and considered it a privilege. He tried cases throughout West Texas, from El Paso to Fort Stockton, Del Rio, Midland, Odessa, and from Abilene to Dallas/Fort Worth. In the course of his career, he found that courtesy and preparation made the difference. He retired from the practice of law in 2018.

When thinking of Don, certain things come to mind: the yellow convertible Karmann Ghia; his laugh; working out; golden retrievers; passion for history; and his love for family, friends, and community. The Karmann Ghia was a constant in his life from the time he bought it in 1973 until its demise in 2019. It may not have had air conditioning or a heater, but it was road worthy enough to drive his bride, Prissy, to Aculpuco, Mexico on their honeymoon.

Don’s laugh was truly one of a kind, and it was easy to know when he was in the room. He loved life and loved to laugh, often at himself. He also loved his exercise. Don ran 35 marathons, numerous half-marathons, and regularly could be seen walking his golden retrievers in the neighborhood. His love of exercise extended to the YMCA, where hardly a day went by that he was not there to lift weights and socialize.

If you ever had a question about the Civil War or World War II, Don had the answer. He was an avid reader of military history, and his love for history extended to the military artifacts he collected that would make any museum jealous. Don also published his memoirs from the Vietnam War in his book “Eagle Days.”

Nothing was more important to him than serving his family and community, which he did with compassion, honor, and grace. Don was a constant and loving husband to Prissy. He left a note for his wife that reads: “Thank you, Prissy, for humoring me in my many activities. You are the best wife, mother, and grandmother that could ever be imagined. I love you dearly.”

Don’s love for his family also included his four children and grandchildren. You could always count on him to help coach one of their sports teams or teach their Sunday School classes. He also wanted to make sure that his children understood the world beyond San Angelo, and he prioritized taking them on trips to enjoy new cultures and to serve others through mission trips. Don felt strongly about education and was so proud of the educations his children were able to receive. Through all of these acts, Don imparted the importance of giving back to the community to make the world a better place.

Don’s true passion was serving others. He volunteered on numerous boards, councils, and associations and was recognized as Citizen of the Year by both the Chamber of Commerce and the Boy Scouts of America. His true passions were the YMCA, the Boy Scouts of America, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of the Concho Valley, and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. He loved helping others and loved helping organizations that give back to the community.

Don was preceded in death by his father, William A. Griffis, Jr., his mother, Dorothy Griffis, his brother, Bill Griffis, his sister, Sallie Griffis Helms, and his beloved Karmann Ghia.

Don is survived by his wife, Priscilla Chase Griffis; his son Will Griffis and wife Leslie; son Jim Griffis and wife Lindsay; daughter Abby Cox and husband Jason; and son John Griffis and wife Elena. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Don’s memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in San Angelo, Texas on October 8 at 10:00a.m. A visitation will be held at Harper’s Funeral Home on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to YMCA of San Angelo, Texas Southwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of the Concho Valley, or Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in San Angelo.

Family and friends may share condolences at www.harper-funeralhome.com.

Mark Andrew Brunson

10/04/2022 - 10:32 , by TKing09

Mark Andrew Brunson, of Miles, Texas, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 26, 2022, in the VA Medical Center Hospice Unit at Big Spring after a short battle with bladder cancer. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and a graveside celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 10:00 AM in the Military Section of Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, San Angelo. Arrangements are by Harper Funeral Home of San Angelo. Cremains will be interred next to his beloved identical twin brother, Sergeant Robert Matthew Brunson, USMC. In keeping with his love for motorcycles and riding his own bike, his eulogy will be given by "biker preacher" Russ Frasier, per Mark's special request. Military Honors will follow.

Corporal Brunson was a veteran of the Vietnam Era and served in the Marine Corps from November 18, 1968 to February 21, 1972 in Company A, 3rd AmTrac Battalion, First Marine Division. He was crewman on the amphibian tractors (also called LVT's or Amtracs), the Marines' amphibious assault vehicle, that had the ability to travel both in and out of the water. He served at Camp Pendleton, CA, Camp LeJeune, NC, and Grenada. He was injured in a diving accident near Puerto Rico November 1, 1969, and flown to San Diego Naval Hospital, CA, where he would spend much of his tour due to his injuries. His experience in the Marines played a huge role in his life. He said the Marines taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in a cause greater than himself.

He was born August 1, 1949, in the old Clinic Hospital in San Angelo, along with his twin brother, to his parents, John Howard Brunson and Irene Farmer Brunson. He graduated in May, 1968 from Montrose High School, Montrose, CO, where he was on the football, basketball, and track teams. While living in Montrose, his dad, a steam pipe fitter, helped build the Marrow Point Dam. While growing up, the twins were called Andy and Bobby, then when they joined the Marines, they became Mark and Robert. Later, he was affectionately dubbed "Markie" by his postal friends. After discharge from the Marines, Mark studied different welding techniques at vocational schools in Austin, Corpus Christi, and Bellingham, WA. He worked as a welder for several years before going to work for the US Postal Service in San Angelo in 1986 and retiring in 2007. These years were spent downtown at the main post office as a mail processing clerk and dock expeditor, a job he truly loved. He volunteered as safety captain, arranged CPR classes and was on the medical response team. He especially enjoyed writing unique safety articles for the union newsletter and the camaraderie of his postal coworkers.

Mark was a private, sometimes reclusive and eccentric, gentle soul who loved his family and friends, the country life, gardening, riding his Harley, antique and junk stores, fishing, music, "fiddling" with old guitars, and all forms of art. He was very artistic, especially with his drawings and welding art. He loved planting beautiful flowers in his old wringer washing machine, clawfoot bathtub and other antique containers on his porch and in his yard. He always had lots of beautiful ivy growing in his home. His special loves were his "doggies," Harley the Bassett and Waylon the Lab, as he referred to them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, grandparents Harvey and Edna Brunson, Robert and Sophie Farmer, and niece, Julie Jackson Richardson. He is survived by his sister, Jeanne Jackson, of San Angelo, three children, Jennifer Bolanos and husband Ruben, of Roswell, NM, Eric Sanders and wife, Hannah, of Bellingham, WA, and Amanda Medlock and husband, Randy, of Elk Grove, CA. He is also survived by his niece, Bonnie Alford and husband, David, of Carlsbad, NM, two nephews, Jerry D Jackson, Jr of San Angelo and Dustin Brunson of Richland. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several cousins, four great nieces, three great-great nieces, and many friends, including his post office family. He will be greatly missed in our lives. Love you always, Mark Andy.

A Marine I was, a Marine I am,

A Marine I will always be

Until that day when I depart

This earth, it’s land, and sea!
