“Give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
It was fitting that Evelyn Ann Ring Favre was received in the arms of our Lord on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2022, surrounded by her family as they prepared to pray and eat their Thanksgiving meal. This holiday was her favorite and has always been fun-filled with an annual cooking contest; complete with friendly jabs, bribes, judging, crazy prizes, and laughter.
Evelyn was the youngest of six children born to Emanuel Ring and Margaret Janssen Ring on March 7, 1938, in Gregory, South Dakota. The family moved to a farm in Spencer, Nebraska when she was a young child. She enjoyed a wholesome Mid-west life and relayed to everyone about riding to school on her horse, Chester; who after arriving, would then make his way back home by himself.
After graduating high school, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to attend beauty school, where she met and married Air Force enlistee, Rayburn Favre. Together they had four children. A military career took the family to bases in Anchorage, AK; San Antonio, TX; Okinawa, Japan; Portsmouth, NH; Fairbanks, AK, and then to San Angelo, TX for retirement; as well as cross-country vacations and extended stays with family in Pasadena, CA; Reno, NV, and Spencer, NE.
In Okinawa, she was able to develop her party, field trip, and social skills as a hostess at the Lutheran Service Center. Bringing a bit of home (and her children) as well as the local culture, to service men and women and their families, was natural to her. She often tried to make a party out of any occasion or event. Tea parties, themed food, Bunco and Skip Bo, or other cards, were usually involved.
The military lifestyle fostered an adventurous spirit for travel and meeting new people which she curtailed into a position with a foreign exchange company to recruit, host, entertain and secure lifetime bonds with many folks. She was always eager to visit the homelands of her former students, as well as missionary trips to other destinations. Of all her travels, it was Alaska’s beauty that fostered her desire and talent for oil painting.
Evelyn said her greatest joy was raising her four children and influencing her grandchildren (when asked). In addition, she made them proud by graduating from Angelo State University (San Angelo, TX) with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the age of 54. Her sharp wit was unsurpassed, as she had a keen passion for many subjects, and loved to share knowledge of those that were of importance to her.
To support herself, she influenced the lives of numerous children (and their parents) by running an in-home day care for 25 years. A cancer diagnosis in 2005 led her to another area of study--holistic, spiritual, and nutritional healing, which she shared with others by example and passion through her private mission, “Free to Live”. The friendships she developed through this group were life sustaining and special.
Evelyn was raised Missouri Synod Lutheran but over the years, visited and opened her heart up to many different churches. She loved the Lord and was a devout Christian and fully accepted Jesus Christ as her savior. She always collected and prayed for angels to watch over her family; and now, she is their ultimate angel.
Her parents and siblings all preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Michael Earl Favre (Elisha), Kim Marie Favre Womack (Gary), Monty Lane Favre (Melanie) and Kelly Rae-Ann Favre Field (Bryan); grandchildren; Shawn Favre, Jerod Favre, M’Kenna Landers (Charlie), Ashlyn Favre, Mika Favre, Lonnie Field (Sarah), Kandra Edmunds, Kaela Edmunds, Weston Womack and Brooks Womack; and great grandchildren Riley Favre, Eli Landers, Delta Landers, Lincoln Landers, Bowen Winger, Easton Winger, Tucker Field and Payten Field, and her ex-husband Rayburn Favre. As well as, sister- in- laws Rosalyn Clark, Laverne Ring, a multitude of nieces, nephews and many “adopted” family members.
The family would like to thank Jairo Oliveras, MD of Texas Oncology of Garland and Peter Chang, MD in San Angelo for their continuous care; and Jennifer Price, RN of Angels Hospice, for her attention during her final transition. They are grateful for a peaceful and miraculously pain-free passing. She is now truly “Free to Live” in eternity.
