Jessie Muriel Boatright

08/21/2016 - 18:33 , by johnb

Jessie Muriel Alexander Boatright went to her Heavenly Home on August 18, 2016. Jessie was born at home on the family farm near Tennyson, Texas in Coke County, Texas. She was the second child and first daughter of Willliam "Bill" and Jessie Lee Stephenson Alexander. Named after her mother, Jessie soon had the nickname of "Chunk" and later in life loved being called "Aunt Chunk" by her many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Chunk had an older brother, Norbon, and four younger sisters - Queenie, Thelma "Scooter", Billie, and Mary. Chunk grew up outside Tennyson, helping her father out on the family farm. Chunk even plowed with a team of horses to help her dad. She attended Tennyson school and graduated from Bronte High School, where she was voted "Most Beautiful" by her senior class. On March 31, 1940, Chunk married Henry Boatright. They were married for 55 years before his death. Prior to her retirement, she worked in the cafeterias of Lake View High School, Glenn Junior High, and Holiman Elementary in which she greatly enjoyed getting to know the students she encountered each day. She also enjoyed working at the snack bar of San Angelo Stadium during football games, and was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Being a Christian was very important to Chunk, and her Bible was always nearby. She often stated that she had a better home waiting for her on the other side. Though as she aged it became harder for her to get out, she loved the visits she received from Pastor Mike Bell and other members of her church. Chunk was thrilled to reach the age of 100 - something she had eagerly anticipated for several years. The family celebrated by throwing a big birthday party for her. She loved seeing the family and friends that came to share the day with her. Aunt Chunk was preceded in death by her daughter, Ginger Ann "Ginny", who passed away of polio at the age of 5. Her husband, Henry, also preceded Chunk in death. Chunk is survived by her sisters, all of San Angelo - Queenie Wade, Thelma "Scooter" Harris, Billie Johnson, and Mary Crotwell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 20, at 10:00 a.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Miles, Texas.
