Belva Merle Hanson, age 78 of San Angelo passed from this world into the loving arms of Jesus, surrounded by her family at home on June 6, 2018, after a brief illness.
She was born Belva Merle Blevins October 26, 1939, in Borger, TX to the late George E. (Steve) Blevins and Leona Bell Holman Blevins.
Most of Belva's life was spent in San Angelo where she graduated from Lake View High School. She met and married Jimmy Noel Hanson in 1958, a marriage of 45 years that ended with Jim's passing in 2003.
Belva entered her career in finance right out of high school and soon began working at Central National Bank where she rose from a teller position to Senior Vice President and Controller, becoming well known for her work ethic and business acumen. A product of the times, she became a strong advocate for women's rights in the workplace and being active in the NABW (National Assoc. for Banking Women). She traveled the country in furthering this cause, doing speaking engagements. After retirement, Belva enjoyed a career in consulting for some of the more rural banking institutions in West Texas.
Also being civic minded, she served on the board of directors for Tom Green County Assault Victim Services and greatly enjoyed serving at the Wesley Soup Kitchen.
Belva is preceded in death by her husband Jim and brother, D'Alton Blevins;
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Noel Dean and Laura Hanson of Lockhart, Steve and Cheryl Hanson of San Angelo; daughter and son-in-law, Taraleeann and Robert Bradbury of San Antonio; sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Wayne Cook of San Angelo, Nancy and John Plumley of Lorenzo; sister-in-law, Jean Blevins of San Angelo; grandchildren Joshua Noel Hanson and wife Kristine, Courtney Lynne Salas, Hannah Noel Hanson, Gavin Lane Box. Kiersten Brooke Hanson and Rebecca Lee Ruscitti; great-grandchildren, Kailee Brooke Salas and Makenna Ruth Hanson; many nieces and nephews and a host of great friends, among whom were some very dear to her heart, her weekly card playing group.
Family will receive friends and provide opportunities for stories about Belva on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at from 3:30 to 5:30pm at Harper Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, June 8, 2018, at 1:30pm at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Water Valley Cemetery.
