Joe Luis Castro of San Angelo, Texas passed away peacefully on June 9, 2018. Born on August 25, 1946, the son of Martin Castro and Maria de la luz (Padron) Castro.
Joe was a musician, a self-taught guitarist as a young boy. He continued to develop and master the skills of his craft. In the 1960’s he was the lead singer and guitarist for the band The Sundells and numerous other latin tejano bands. He met many great musicians in Texas who became lifelong friends.
Once he dedicated his life to God, he began using his musical talent in his church music ministry. He taught and inspired countless musicians to perfect their musical talent. Joe believed if the music was to worship God - it should be excellent.
In 1982, as their unique style of music became known in spanish churches, they formed the music group Los Aleluyas. The music group traveled taking their music throughout Texas.
Joe also worked as an accomplished tile setter for over 40 years. In 1986, he began his own tile installation business known as Castro Ceramic Tile. He took great pride in his work and taught many individuals the tile setting profession. He worked as a tile setter until his illness no longer allowed him to continue. During the time of his illness he enjoyed listening to music and songs performed by his grandchildren at his bedside.
