Darlyne Cope Conway, age 92, of San Angelo, Texas passed away February 17, 2020. She was born to Robert Kyle and Stella Cope on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1928 in Pleasant Hill, MO. At the age of 9, her family moved to the Fairview Community near Wall, Texas to care for the family farm. Darlyne attended Fairview Elementary and San Angelo public schools. She graduated from San Angelo College.

In 1952, she married Jack Conway and was a career-long bookkeeper for several companies and a fabulous homemaker. She and Jack had three children, Brenda, Douglas, and Kyle. The family owned and operated Uncle Charlie's Burgers and Pizza for 8 years and Big Flame Burgers for 5 years in San Angelo.

Darlyne loved her Lord and Savior and spoke often of His companionship with her. She was a member of First Baptist Church in San Angelo for over 70 years. She loved to sing and was a member of the church choir and the Glory Choir. She loved her family, music, laughing, teasing and being teased. She loved fishing and camping all over Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. She enjoyed her times volunteering at Shannon Hospital and at the gift shop at Baptist Retirement Center.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Jack of 52 years, son Douglas, sisters Delphine Anderson Kresge and Carolyn Ferguson and brothers-in law J.B. Anderson (Andy), Leon Ferguson, Bill Kresge, and Dwayne Swindle.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Conway of Belton, son Kyle Conway of Austin, and sister Donna Cope Swindle of San Angelo; granddaughters Meagan Conway Hunter and husband Reed, and Kelsey Conway, all of Austin; and sweet nieces, nephews, dear cousins, and special friends.

Graveside service will be held February 21st at noon at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Chaplain Kevin McSpadden of Baptist Retirement Center and Robert Dillard of First Baptist Church will officiate. Niece Susan Swindle Rose will play violin.

BRC has been amazing and God-serving for the many years that allowed Mother to reside independently in the East Village house. Our hearts and thanks go out to BRC Sagecrest Alzheimer care division for her care over the last 6 weeks. They are amazing!

Isaias “Jay” Leal Prieto left this earth on the wings of angels at the age of 63 at his residence in San Angelo, Texas on Feb 15,2020. Isaias was born on March 22,1956 in Del Rio, Texas to Isaias E. Prieto and Enriqueta Leal Prieto. He is survived by his wife Martha Prieto; his daughter Melody Prieto and three stepchildren, Trey and Leslie Jo Tucker, Major and Meagan Kerr; and his grandchildren, Jack and Rhett Tucker. He is also survived by three sisters, Sylvia Monroe, Rebecca Flores and Abigail Prieto; and his brothers Benjamin Prieto, and Israel Prieto. Jay was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ramiro Prieto and Abraham Prieto.
Jay attended ASU and became a RN in 1986. He was proud to have served the Veterans for the last 14 years in San Angelo VA clinic and the Corpus Christi VA clinic. Jay was most proud of being a Texas Peace Officer. He served for the Tom Green County Sheriff Office for 15 years as a reserve. He said he always wanted to be a police officer and was happy serving the residents of Tom Green County. He will miss his best friend Officer Raul Polanco.
Jay was an outdoorsman. He loved working in his yard and on many projects around his home. He was an avid marksman and loved spending time at the gun range. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved being called “Papa Jay”.
Jay was a member of Parkside Foursquare Church in San Angelo and also attended Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship when he was in Corpus Christi.
The graveside service will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma.

On Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the age of 66, Gary Ray Speck of Wall, TX, went to be with his Lord and Savior, after a long battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. Gary was born on November 12, 1953 in San Angelo, TX to Denny Ray and "Beppo" Speck. Gary graduated Valedictorian of Eden High School in 1972 and went on to receive an Accounting degree from Angelo State University in 1976. Growing up, Gary was very involved in sports, FFA and UIL, winning second place in Prose Reading at the State UIL competition. He also kept very busy in his spare time helping his Dad at the ranch.

In 1984, Gary met his best friend at the 1st annual Rain Dance in San Angelo. Exactly one year later, he married the love of his life, Reta Darlene Gunn. They lived in Eden, TX until August 2002 when they moved to the community of Wall, TX. Gary and Darlene raised two children, Jessie and Scott. He was very active in his kids' lives, attending many little league games, dance recitals, band contests, football games, One Act play contests and much more. An active supporter of the communities that he lived in, Gary attended as many school activities as he could. Anyone who knew Gary would attest to his place as the "#1 fan" and loudest cheerleader in the stands. He was also the long-time voice of the "Mean Green Marching Machine" and "The Big Blue Band from Bulldog Land".

Gary served as an officer and director on the Mohair Council of America, the Texas Mohair Council and the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers. He was a long-time member and officer of the Concho County Farm Bureau serving on the Texas Farm Bureau State Committee for Sheep and Goats. In 2019, he received the Texas Farm Bureau Pioneer Award for District 6. Gary was a member of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, participating actively in the CCC Sunday School class and church choir.

Gary is survived by his wife, Darlene Speck; daughter Jessica Fett and husband Phillip; son Scott and wife Victoria, all of Wall, TX; mother Geraldine (Beppo) Speck of San Angelo, TX; sisters Suzy Carroll of Cisco, TX, and Shelly Sanford and husband Todd of San Angelo, TX; mother-in-law, Oneita Gunn, of Post, TX; brother-in-law Bobby Heckaman of Post, TX; sister-in-law Melinda Gunn of Lubbock, TX, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Denny Ray Speck; grandparents Harris and Willie Mae Mohler and Fritz and Bela Speck; father-in-law Clarence Gunn; brother-in-laws Bill Carroll and Danny Gunn; and sister-in-law Nita Jo Heckaman.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 28th, from 5:30-7:00pm at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, TX. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 29th at 1:00pm at the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church in San Angelo, TX.

Rachel Ellen Harris Caillouet passed from this world to Glory Land on February 8, 2020.
She was born in San Angelo on April 4, 1951 to Sam and Claudine Harris. As an only child, she learned to take care of herself and to take care of others. She finished Central High in 1969 and went on to earn her Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from L.S.U. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Rachel loved to read, do genealogy, attend family reunions and brag she never even once rolled through a stop sign in her life – a life well lived. She will be forever missed by her husband of 32 years, James Caillouet, whom she met in Baton Rouge.

She is survived by her son Sam D. Wells of Troup, Texas along with daughter in law Ammie, and grandchildren Aubrey, Tara, Payton and Brett Wells and great grandchildren Laikyn and Kannon.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, February 26th at the Suez Shrine Temple (2915 W Loop 306, San Angelo, TX 76904). Rachel will be laid to rest in peace in Fairmount Cemetery at a later date.

Martha Ellen Kirk, beloved wife and mother, 80, of San Angelo died Thursday, February 13, 2020, following a lengthy illness. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Schleicher County Cemetery in Eldorado. A memorial and reception will follow at Harper Funeral Home at 2:00 PM.

Ellen was born in 1939 in San Angelo, Texas, to Chester Lucius Wheeler and Jeanette Henderson Wheeler of Eldorado. Her father and her grandfather, “Skinny” Wheeler, owned and operated a grocery store in Eldorado from 1934-1950. Ellen remembered that her grandfather always had a piece of candy for her when she came to the grocery. She often fondly recalled riding her tricycle around the courthouse and watching Saturday afternoon serials at the town theater with her lifelong friend, Ann Barker. Her mother's father, Tom Henderson, was a local rancher, and she grew up enjoying being with her cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents at his ranch. Though a young child, the effects of World War II on the small town of Eldorado and the adults surrounding her left a lasting impression.

She and her parents moved to San Angelo in 1950. After graduating high school, Ellen attended Texas Tech University, where she met her husband of 59 years, Wade Kirk. After marrying, Ellen and Wade departed Texas for the east coast, where Wade served as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps. She recalled many happy times during their service, as well as the tense weeks surrounding Wade's deployment aboard a carrier blockading the island during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

Ellen and Wade returned to Texas after discharge from the Marine Corps in order for Wade to pursue graduate education at the University of Texas at Austin. During this time Ellen became a mother to son, Mark. Upon completion of Wade's PhD, the family moved to Kansas, where Ellen pursued volunteer work and became an accomplished grower of African violets. She returned to Texas in 1978. Ellen and Wade retired to San Angelo in 2000 and cared for her parents in their later years.

Ellen was a devoted wife and mother and loving daughter. She was the center of her small family and was well-loved by her extended family. She had a special love for animals and rescued and adopted numerous cats through the years. She was particularly fond of her miniature dachshund, April. Ellen also had a tender heart for the elderly and infirm and volunteered for Meals for the Elderly.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include her son, Mark Kirk, daughter-in-law Jody Stock, and grandson Alec; sister-in-law Glenda Young and brother-in-law Bill Young.

The family would like to thank caregivers Ester Flores, Gloria Padilla, Tammy Holguin, Mandy Sosa, and Linda Saldana, and family and friends Ann Barker, Carla Hallman, C'Jay Vaughn, Martha Martin, Sammye Stone, and Sherry Kildow for their care and concern during Ellen's illness.

Xavier Love Fields, age 39 of San Angelo died suddenly on February 12, 2020

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 16th at 2:00 PM in the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Pastor Sankirk Bailey of United Community Church will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Cealan Reed, T.J. Crowder, Haston Fields, Alvin Carson, Terence Fields, Morris Smith, James Jeffreys, Eddie Ayalla, Noel Kruger, Cedric Fields, Shakir Muhyee and Marcus Armstead. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Xavier was born January 13, 1981, in Houston to Rondrick and Sharon Love Fields. Now when Xavier walked in a room you would know it because his smile would light the place up. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with anybody and everybody. He loved listening to good music and socks, yes socks! He was known as the “Sock King” and he would never be caught in plain white or black socks, the brighter and the bolder the better! Xavier loved kids and was constantly surrounded by his nieces and nephew. The one thing that Xavier was passionate about was his family, he loved them dearly, especially his twin brother, Pierre. They were inseparable from the time they were born. He will be remembered for many things, but most importantly he will be remembered for the love he had for his family and the fact he had the biggest heart on earth.

Xavier was preceded in death by his parents, Rondrick and Sharon Fields; by his grandmother, Naomi Love; and his grandfather, Haston Fields, Jr.

He is survived by his twin brother Pierre Love Fields of San Angelo; his older brother, Rondrick “Reggie” Fields and wife Danyel Daniels of Houston; his grandmother, Rosie Fields; his nieces and nephew, Aniyah Love Fields, Danity Love Fields, Kali Daniels-Fields, Jordan Granado and Danzel Daniels; his aunts and uncles. LaRue Reed and husband Charles, Alfred Fields, Janet Brown, Bruce Fields and wife Steena, Sylvia Fields, Juanita Armstead, Shawn Love Capel, and Frances Love; and many other loving cousins, family members and friends.
