On April 28, 2025, Lolis Gist, Jr. peacefully transitioned from this earthly realm to embrace his eternal home as one of God’s Angels. Born on December 4, 1937 in San Angelo, Texas, his life was a testament to the boundless love of God.
Lolis was the cherished first born child of Vivian L. Gist and Lolis Gist, Sr., and brother of 11 siblings.
He attended Blackshear School and played the saxophone in the school band. Upon finishing school he served in the United States Army.
Lolis is a very well known saxophone musician and played in various bands in the San Angelo area.
He was married to his wife the late Doris F. Gist for over 50 wonderful years and they raised their son Howard Gregg Gist along with Howard’s mother the late Martha Smith.
He was a member of New Light Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board.
Lolis along with his father were the owners and operators of Gist Carpet Installation & Service. They provided carpeting services to area businesses, and residences. After retiring from the carpeting business he worked at Angelo State University before final retirement.
Lolis was a caring family man and a good friend to many. He was always very kind, patient and willing to help. He was a very detailed person, immaculate lawn, sparkling clean vehicles, and a very sharp dresser. He and his wife were the GOAT Bar-B-Que Masters dream team. Imagine being the oldest sibling of 12. He was their rescuer, their support, their all after the death of their father. He was the perfect example of a true family man.
He is now reunited in God’s beautiful garden with his wife Doris F. Gist; his father Lolis Gist Sr.; his mother Vivian L. Gist; his brothers, Charles W. Gist, Ronnie D. Gist, and Lonnie K. Gist.
He leaves to cherish his memories: son, Howard G. Gist; daughter-in-law Ruby Gist; sisters, Billie J. Barbour, Patricia J. Henry, Eleanor A. Bush, Mona D. Ray, Janet S. Nieves (Johnny R. Nieves), Shawn Y. Gist; brothers, Jackie E. Gist, Gerald J. Gist; grandchildren, Marcia Jones, Deadra Gist, Lolis Gist, Ronna Keith, Racy Keith; great-grandchildren, Kalia Hernandez, Tyre Thomas, Nicole Gist, Jeremiah Gist; God daughter/cousin, Patrinella Boudeaux; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
Lolis, Junior, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Junior, Bro. Lolis…You will surely be missed, but we are rejoicing that you are with God soaring with the angels. Your memory will be kept alive. Rest in heavenly peace!!
