Jimmie Donald White

07/29/2025 - 21:58 , by TKing09

With family close by, Jimmie went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2025. He was known by many names Jim, Jimbo, Dad, Pops but his favorite was Pa Pa.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Pastor Russ Frasier and Steve White, officiating.

Jimmie was born to Charlie Luther White and Annie Doris White in San Angelo, TX. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1960 where he played sports while creating many lifelong friendships. During this same time, he met Linda Fay Townsend, married in June 1961 and loved her till his final days. They had a large double wedding with Linda's twin sister Brenda and dads' best friend Roy Vallandingham. Their wedding made the front page of the newspaper and was the talk of the town.

Dad started working for his Uncle Fess at the Texaco Station on North Chadbourne, changing oil, washing cars, and pumping gas. His career as a plumber began with John Bright in the early 1960's learning the trade of plumbing, pipefitting and welding. He worked residential in the early years but transitioned to commercial work to include Hemphill Wells, Angelo State dorms, Sunset Mall, Post Office, Community Hospital, along with many power plants across west Texas and a refinery in Texas City.

Dad retired after 38 years of being a plumber, but there was still work to be done. He was always ready to build something...anything. Many sitting here today called upon him to help with projects, large and small, Dad was ready to help. In his later years, needing assistance to walk, Dad still looked forward to mowing at Steven's place as often as it required, for as long as it took. His last day of work was completed May 7th 2025, mowing along the Concho River. He loved it there.

Dad enjoyed coaching baseball. His first years of coaching were with the YMCA in San Angelo. The fields were downtown back then, close to the present-day YMCA building. He coached several teams to City Championship games and later, as Little League gained popularity in San Angelo, dad coached for 13 more years. It was during these years that Dad and Mr. "Mac" became close friends while coaching several teams and many young men. Dad referred to Mr. Mac as the best friend a man could ever have.

If you played baseball at Eastern Little League near Lakeview High School, you can thank Jim White and James McWhorter for turning a pasture into a baseball field.

Dad had many close friends, but none closer than Roy Vallandingham. Friends from junior high, brother-in-law till the end. Fishing, hunting, and water skiing, "doing life together" is what they did. Dad stated often how much he missed Roy and wished they could go fishing one more time. Dad, not typically an emotional man, loved his family and friends.

Surviving Dad is our Mom, Linda White; 2 children, Lisa Frasier and husband Scotty and Steven White and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Blake Scott and wife Monica, Chad Scott and fiance Blakely, Kaitlyn Seidel and husband Carter; along with great grandchildren, Ava Lynn Scott and Hunter Michael Scott.

Preceding Dad in death were his parents, Charlie and Doris White; brother, Edgar Lee White and wife Dawn Ann; favorite Uncle, William Festus White; nephew, Edgar Lee White, Jr.

Dad was a member of the San Angelo Cowboy Church. He had many friends there and felt at home for many years.

The family would like to thank the incredible nurses and aids of Shannon Hospital along with Sagecrest Skilled Nursing. The Allison House caregivers treated our Dad with great kindness and respect. In addition, Hospice of San Angelo stood with us morning and night, as we kept dad at home for his final days. We referred to them as our Angels on earth.

Dads' wishes were that donations to Meals for the Elderly of San Angelo be made in lieu of flowers.

Adelina Penilla Martinez

07/29/2025 - 21:49 , by TKing09

Adelina went home to the Lord to be welcomed by her Husband Benjamin on July 24, 2025, at age 90. Awaiting her in Heaven were many sisters, brothers, friends, a son, a grandson, great grandsons and her beloved parents. She died under Hospice care at Cedar Manor in San Angelo.

Adelina was born in Karnes City, Texas on December 28, 1934. Married to Benjamin B. Martinez in Concho County, Eden, Texas on December 29th, 1951, to her parents: Augustine Penilla Sr. and Martiana Gonzalez Penilla

The life Adelina had these 90 years on this earth would take volumes of pages to truly give her life story justice. Unconditional love and devotion to caring for others describes Adelina so well. Her childhood was filled with family working together in various states harvesting fruits and vegetables. When Adelina would go to school, she would get a nickel, and her drink was 3 cents and she was able to get Frito chips with the rest. She was good with money even as a child!

Upon marriage Adelina and Ben moved to Paducah, Texas. During this time her husband was a foreman, and they talked about their future. They chose to move to a city where there were more opportunities for growth as their family was expanding. In the beginning they lived in several houses around San Angelo where Mom would turn them into homes. When they bought their house in San Angelo, she turned it into a home with a warm and caring environment. She always made sure the home was clean and welcoming, making sure her children had clean and ironed clothes. Throughout her life she was a nurturer. When a sister or other family member called in an emergency she would go to them and stay until she felt she could go back home, and they were okay. She was a problem solver, a homemaker, an entrepreneur, a devoted mother and wife, a true friend and a devout Christian. When there were meals, we all remember everyone would have food first and she would keep going and eat standing up to be ready to get anything else someone would need during the meal. Mom never drove but she was always out doing things with her daughter, grandchildren, friends, and sons. Mom enjoyed the little trips and big trips David took her on. Adelina had a huge heart and shared it with everyone. She loved giving little gifts and making people happy. When something was wrong with any of us in the family, we would call her and ask her to pray for us, there was something beyond beautiful about her pure prayers that always helped us. Mom always welcomed family visits, it was never a burden, it was a blessing, a home filled with love, laughter and memories. She loved calling Diane every day and especially having Diane perm and color her hair very Blonde! Adelina and Ben had a relationship that was together, facing trials, happiness, and the future as one. Her devout faith came from the strength of her father’s conviction; she carried it her whole life. Everything is done with God. When her husband went home to the Lord, she mourned him very much and stayed strong and did what she felt was right to keep moving forward for herself and her family. We were able to be with Mom over 23 years because of her strength and love.

She is survived by her sons, David and wife Debbie Martinez, Robert and wife Martha Martinez, and Jerry Martinez Daughter Diane Martinez. Grandchildren: Crystle Martinez, Amanda Arellano, Kimberly Martinez, David Benjamin Martinez, Joe Angel Martinez, Austin Martinez, Eric Martinez, Rosie Martinez, and Luke Martinez. Great Grandchildren: Angel, Kai, Madilyn, Brooklyn, Marcus, Jazzy, Kaleb, Dominic, Macy, Baby Joe, Gio, Naya, Jeriah, Erilyn, Destiny, Cameron, Maverick, Nayomi, Jocelyn, and Olivia

She is predeceased in death by her husband Benjamin Martinez, son Benjamin, Grandson: Jerry Lee Martinez; Great Grandson: Cezar Antonio Martinez, and Mason Johnnie Martinez; Siblings: Steven Penilla, Augustine Penilla Jr., Maria Gonzales, Encarnacion Hernandez, Selia Plancencio, Eva Delgado, Belia Escamilla, Rita Gomez, Manuela Gamez, Alberta Silva, and Inez Penilla

A visititation will be Tuesday, July 29th from 5:00pm - 7:00 pm at Harper Funeral Home, with services there as well at 10am on July 30th. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery (4989 FM Highway 1223, San Angelo, TX 76905).

Barbara Ann Gilbert

07/26/2025 - 12:58 , by live

Barbara Ann Gilbert, a child of God, a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, 92, of San Angelo, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. She was born March 12, 1933 in Buckholts, Texas, to Jerry and Ruth Cryer. Barbara had seven siblings, four brothers and three sisters. Barbara attended Lake View High School. She married Alton Gilbert on June 26th, 1949 in Mertzon, Texas. She was a member of the 19th Street Church of Christ. Barbara and Alton had three children Lynda, Allen, and Kary; along with some sixty foster children over a period of forty-nine years. Barbara has eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara worked at Levins General Store and Ethicon, where she retired after over thirty years.

Barbara’s life was spent caring for and loving others and this was seen in all that she did. Barbara was an active member of her children’s school organizations and was always willing to help others no matter how busy she was. Barbara had a passion for baking, cooking, quilting, and especially loved knitting. Her chocolate pies were guaranteed to be hidden so other family members wouldn’t eat them first. Barbara had many names and wore many hats. From Mom, Grandmother, Great grandmother, Aunt Bob, friend, sister, and aunt. It did not matter what you called her; she loved you and welcomed you into her home and heart all the same. As the stages of her life changed several things never did, her love for Christ, her love for her family, and her love for others. While these were constant, some things about Barbara did change; the older she became the funnier she became and the quicker witted she became.

Growing up she helped her dad in the fields and was a self-described “Tomboy” as she would say. She drove the tractor, picked the crops, tended to the animals, as well as any other jobs that needed to be done. Once this was done, she would go inside and help her mom and care for her younger siblings. Growing in a family of eight, four boys and four girls, Barbara developed a caring, nurturing heart; a servant’s heart. She learned from an early age to care for those around you. Barbara met Alton in high school and they enjoyed going on dates with other couples and listening to music. Barbara and Alton were married for fifty-seven years until his passing in 2006.

Barbara’s kids, Lynda, Allen, and Kary, learned many things from her, but most importantly they learned to treat everyone the same and how to love and care for others. These are qualities that each of her children exhibited and still exhibit today. They saw her model these every day in everything that she did.

Grandmother or Great Grandmother enjoyed attending or hearing about all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities. It did not matter if it was football, baseball, basketball, track, cross country, or volleyball she loved it all. She loved the fact that she could turn the tv on and see Sterlin coach every Saturday in the fall, but her love was the same whether she was watching or listening to any of her grandchildren or great grandchildren.

Her love for music never left her, even up until the last few months she would stay up until midnight some nights watching her music on tv as she would say.

Barbara always enjoyed her lunches with her LIFT group and the fellowship it provided. She looked forward to each one of these luncheons and the many great friends she made.

Even during her last days, she kept her fight and sense of humor about her and that “something special” aurora that she has always had and that just turned strangers into family and made them want a seat at her table, no matter who they were.

Pallbearers for the service will be Brady Gilbert, Sterlin Gilbert, Corey Gilbert, Mark Bland, Johnny Bland, Jeremy Fluhman, Vaughn Lara, and Steven Higgins.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Ruth Cryer, her husband Alton Gilbert, her daughter, Lynda McCorkel, her son, Kary Gilbert, her sisters, Evelyn Bales, Virginia Keele, Mary Bonine, her brothers, Thomas Cryer and Gary Cryer.

Those left to cherish Barbara’s memory are her son, Allen Gilbert and wife Michelle, her brothers, Steven Cryer and Dennis Cryer, her grandchildren, Brady Gilbert (wife Lemire), Sterlin Gilbert, Sabryna Fluhman (husband Jeremy), Corey Gilbert (wife Monica), Christy Lara (husband Vaughn), Amanda Higgins (husband Steven), Mark Bland (wife Stacie), and Johnny Bland. She is also survived by her great grand Children, Adyson Gilbert, Brooklyn Gilbert, Cambreigh Fluhman, Carter Fluhman, Ty Gilbert, Cade Gilbert, Levi Gilbert, Konner Lara, Isaiah Lara, Sean Lara, Abbie Lara, Mara Bland, Amber Bland, Chelsey Bland, and Noah Bland as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 27th from 4-6 p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home. A funeral service for Barbara will be held at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel on Monday July 28th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to Meals on Wheels, Hospice of San Angelo, or a charity of your choice in her name. The family would like to extend a thank you to Hospice of San Angelo and a special thank you to Regency House for all of their love, attention, and personnel care they provided Barbara.
