A Celebration of Melvin's life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday March 14, 2026 at First Baptist Church in San Angelo. A time of remembrance and fellowship will follow the celebration in the First Baptist Church Atrium.
Melvin has gone on ahead of his loving wife Sandra whom he married July 7, 2012.
Melvin grew up in Tahoka, Texas with three older brothers, Harold, Alman, and El Wayne, and an older sister Gertrude. While in high school in San Angelo, Melvin met and later married Patricia Josephine Miller on September 23, 1955. Other than a few years in California to become a master plumber under the apprenticeship of Pat’s uncle, Melvin and Pat lived out their lives in San Angelo. They were married for 55 years until Pat’s death in 2011. They had 2 sons, 2 daughters, 8 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.
Melvin is remembered for his skills as a plumber, artist, and craftsman. He was also a creative writer and storyteller. In later years he spent infinite hours in his workshop creating art from wood, metal, and any unusual material he could experiment with to make something beautiful, musical, or unique.
Melvin is preceded in death by his first wife Patricia, daughter Laticia Couch, and grandson Colton Crotwell.
He is survived by his wife of almost 14 years Sandra, brother El Wayne, Son-in-law Randy Couch, son Ricky and wife Jenna, daughter Penny Gamache and husband Raoul, and son Chris and wife Eleshia. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren Dustin Couch, Crystal Ramirez-husband Roy and daughter Emalia, Cara Brooks and children Jase, Abby and Bradach, Katy Crotwell and daughter Kaci Mooers, Camden Crotwell, Cagnie Palmer – husband Trent and children Marlie Ann and George, Micah Gamache – wife Nicole and children Phineas and Whitaker. And Sandra’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom he also dearly loved.
