Johnell Stuart Vincent passed away in peace on April 5, 2022, at the age of 94. She was born in Baytown, Texas on January 13, 1928 to John M. Stuart and Violet F. Stuart. 

Johnell and Lloyd Drexell moved to San Angelo in 1967 where Drexell served as President of Angelo State University until 1994. After moving San Angelo, she joined her husband in dedicating her life to Angelo State. She was a gracious and devoted First Lady, and is remembered by many as she hosted students, faculty, and community members in that capacity. Johnell was concerned about every student and developed loving and caring relationships with those students who attended the University. She was most adored for her gift of never forgetting a name, how many children they had and their names, as well as their family histories. She reached out to many students on a personal level, inviting them into her home to live when the dorms were overflowing. She treated all people equally and with great respect. She also had a deep commitment to community, having served on many boards in San Angelo including the San Angelo Symphony and Concho Valley Home for Girls boards for many years. 

Johnell had a true passion for education and the value of cultural exchange and enrichment. She and her beloved husband demonstrated this through their contribution to each grandchild's education and introducing her grandchildren to a travel abroad experience as well as a few trips to Disney Land. Prior to moving to San Angelo in 1967, she taught for more than 18 years in Louisiana and Texas. 
Johnell was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Lloyd D. Vincent, her parents, her sister Mary Ellen Stuart, brother-in-law, Gerald Vincent, and sister-in-law Wanda Ellis Mitchell. She is survived by her son, Drex Vincent, wife, Nancy Vincent, daughter, Sande Vincent Harrison, and husband, George Harrison. As well as her beloved grandchildren, Bryan and Brandi Vincent, Blake and Tammi Vincent, Laura Vincent Scott and Billy Scott, Amy Harrison Etchison and Brian Etchison, Jeff Harrison and Genevieve Harrison, John Harrison and Jill Harrison. She is also survived by 22 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 2 nieces and a nephew. 

The family extends its gratitude to Mrs. Vincent's wonderful personal caregivers and the compassionate staff at Lyndale Senior Living. 

Johnell lived a long and Godly life as she cared for others with love and humility. Her kindness and loving spirit will live on through everyone whose lives she touched. 

Family will receive visitors from 4 PM to 5:30 PM, Friday, April 8, 2022, at Harper Funeral Home.

Following a private family interment at Fairmount Cemetery, a celebration of Johnell’s life will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Harper Funeral Home Chapel.

Ernestine Emma Hoelscher Lange, 92 went on to new adventures on April 3, 2022. She was born on July 23, 1929, in Rowena, Texas, to William Casper and Josephine Anne (Halfmann) Hoelscher She was the youngest of 10.  

She lived in the Wall and San Angelo area growing up, and while attending a Catholic Life Convention in Frelsburg, Texas, she saw someone and told her sister, “That’s the kind of man I want to marry.” And so, on June 10, 1948, she married him - Arnold Otto Lange at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in San Angelo Texas. Their marriage produced 5 children – Susan Lange Carlson (Peter), Roger Joseph Lange (Sharon Dierschke), Laurie Lange Reagan (Scott), and adopted sons, William Paul Lange, and Aaron Arnold Lange. Their grandchildren are (Roger) Amy Lange Zubak, Eric Scott Lange, and Holly Lange Ewing; (Laurie) Jennifer Reagan Herzig and Brian Reagan; (Aaron) Coy, Kimberly, Colby, and Christopher Lange. 

Ernestine and Arnold moved to St. Lawrence, TX, to pursue a career in agriculture, ranching and to raise their family.  

Proud members of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Ernestine held offices in the Altar Society and taught catechism for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid reader. She loved to work outside in the garden, and many bouquets were made for the altar at church. Early on, there was a beautiful lawn, trees of all kinds, interesting flowers, and shrubs, often gardened from cuttings from neighbors. 

During their lives Ernestine and Arnold enjoyed international travel, hunting, fishing, and boating on the local lakes and rivers plus lots of time with family and friends. One of her fun claims to fame was that she once shot 2 large deer with one bullet while in her 80’s.  

After retirement to San Angelo, Texas, they enjoyed the arts, more of their usual, their grandchildren and being in the largest family in Texas – the Hoelscher-Buxkempers. 

A memorial mass will be at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 9:45 AM with a burial following at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas.

Garland Freeze, 81, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022, in San Angelo.

Public viewing will from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday, April 10, 2022. Mass will be at 10:00 AM Monday April 11, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Juan Lopez-Cortez, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with military rites will be afforded by Ft Hood Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Freeze was born July 16, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio. He was a 1958 graduate from South High School in Columbus. Garland married Clara Butler on October 21, 1960. Garland Retired as Chief Warrant Officer 4 after serving 24 years in the military being stationed at Darmstadt, Germany, Okinawa, Korea, Ft. Meade, Maryland, Ft. Devins, MA and Goodfellow AFB. Garland has been a resident of San Angelo since 1989. Garland started as a Letter Carrier then advanced to Mail Process Supervisor and promoted to Postmaster, he served as Postmaster in Ballinger and Brady retiring from the Post Office after 20 years of service.

Garland has been a mentor in the Big Brother/Big Sister Program with a student at Lakeview High School, served on board of Habit for Humanity, West Texas Workforce Solutions. He was a deliver for Meals for the Elderly, served on the Convention & Visitor Bureau Board, was a member of The Knights of Columbus through St. Joseph Catholic Church, member of the Boys & Girls Club, American Legion Post 572, Torchbearer Award recipient of the Texas State Conference of the NAACP, United Way Allocation Panel, meet with new police recruits San Angelo Police Dept. Chief Challenge, SAISD 2008 Bond Oversite Committee, Shannon Volunteer Program, the San Angelo Community Board, and served as President of the NAACP for 10 years.

Garland loved to read, listening to Jazz and watching the Washington Redskins. Garland was member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Clara Freeze of the home; his son, Perry L. Freeze, Sr. of San Angelo; two daughters, Renarda Y. Freeze of Dallas, and Garlanda E. Freeze of Brooklyn, New York; five grandchildren, Patrease, Perry Jr., Nealie, April, and Kieran; and three great grandchildren, Samuel, Suinta, Sophia and several nieces and nephews.

Garland was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson and Florence Freeze; a son, Garland Freeze, Jr.; a sister, Patricia Byrd; and a brother, Monte Freeze.

Wally D. Page passed away with acceptance and peace at his home on Monday, April 4th, 2022, following a courageous 3-year battle with the 'beast of diseases' - ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease). Always thinking of his family, he never once complained nor felt pity for himself. He was a spiritual, humble, and caring man dedicated to his family. His 'Pretty Girl' called him her genius, because according to her he knew everything about everything and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. 

Wally was born on June 26th, 1949, in Ballinger, TX, the 3rd Son of Bill and Emma Kvapil Page. The family moved from Rowena to San Angelo when Wally was in elementary school. He attended San Angelo public schools and worked in commercial construction. He retired as a member of Iron Workers Local 289. 

His spirit lives on in the hearts of those that loved him. He is survived by his wife of 50+ years Karen Mills Page. Children, Tracie, and Charlie Page. Grandchildren, Jordan "Pretty Girl", Nathan and Julian Page. Great grandchildren, Jamiah and Ashen Page. Brothers Willie Page of San Angelo and Woody Page of Waco. 

There will be a private family service will be held under the direction of Harper Funeral Home. 

The Family requests donations be made to the following organizations who work 
closely with ALS patients: The ALS Association of Texas, and the the Healthwell Foundation. 

Special thanks to Concho Hearts Hospice, along with all the skilled & caring Nurses at the Shannon Infusion clinic, the many doctors and their staff that cared for Wally during his battle with ALS. 

I haven't lost the battle with ALS, I've reached my final destination, finished the race & am totally healed. It's been a difficult journey with countless blessings. I'm home with peace in my heart. 

Tracy Lynn Sturdivant, 47, passed away suddenly on March 30, 2022. She was born on August 14, 1974, in Amarillo, Tx. Daughter of parents Bobleta Gaye Cleere and Claud Lee Myers (1951-2016). 

She is survived by her mother and step-father Beldon Cleere, two loving children: Autumn Renee Myers-Rush and Michael Garret Kessler, and siblings: Tonya Myers Piehl and Timothy Shane Myers and step-sister, Shawna Bridgforth. 

Tracy served in the medical profession throughout her life; first as a phlebotomist, then as a respiratory therapist, and finally as a registered nurse. She touched the lives of many people and her absence will be felt by her family, friends, and coworkers. 

A memorial service will be held at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, Tx on Saturday April 9th at 10:00 AM.

Helen “Tilly” Lowenfield Chandler was born March 17, 1937, in El Paso, Texas. She died on March 22, 2022 at age 85 in San Angelo, Texas. 

Tilly was preceded in death by her beloved Burton Chandler, infant daughter Mia, brother Wallace Lowenfield, and her parents Helen and Ralph Lowenfield. 

She is survived by sister Marianne Andrews (Stafford) of Houston, bother Ralph Lowenfield (Sandra) of El Paso, daughter Cenny Flores (Porfirio) of San Angelo, Robert Shepperd (Jamie) of Carrizozo New Mexico, and daughter Alyson Tuman (Kevin) of Lipan. Grandchildren include Shane Shepperd (Leslie) of Palmer, Alaska, Shawna Hillebrand (Lucas) of Tularosa, New Mexico, Chandler Flores of San Angelo, and Parker Staley of Lipan. Great grandchildren include Saige, Kason, Joseph, William, Shyan and Billie. Many nieces, nephews and godchildren will miss her. 

Tilly grew up in El Paso but spent many summers at the family cabin in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, where she particularly enjoyed time with her beloved horse, Honey Bee. She was a graduate of the elite Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. 

Tilly lived a life of service to her church, her community, and those she cared for. She had a unique ability to inspire her many friends who were devoted to her and her projects. 

Tilly earned her first public service award in 1958 when she was a Junior League provisional. When placed in an understaffed child welfare office, she wrote a grant proposal for a special adoptions department. When the agency won the grant, it used the funds to adopt more than 30 children. She continued to serve on many Junior League projects over the years and received the Mary Harriman award—the highest honor awarded by the Junior League—in 1995 in recognition of her service. Named for the founder of the Junior League, there is only one woman so honored each year in the nation. 

Tilly worked passionately in education, diversity, civic pride, museums and historical celebrations. Tilly and her sister were instrumental in starting VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools) and impacted countless children in education. She taught at El Paso Community College for several years. She served as a translator at the United Nations. 

Tilly felt San Angelo was much like the El Paso of her youth and became a champion of San Angelo and its history when she moved to the city in 1979. She worked at Fort Concho when she and Burton moved here. At Fort Concho, she developed such programs as Christmas at Old Fort Concho and Frontier Days. After Tilly worked at Fort Concho, she and Burton owned a telephone answering service, Answer Angelo/San Angelo Medical and Dental Exchange, for more than 30 years. 

Tilly took great pride in bringing different groups together to accomplish goals. Moving Fort Concho School to its current location was one of those projects. Tilly and Burton were founding members of San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, which first was located at Fort Concho. 

Tilly loved to share San Angelo history in the public space. She was a leader on the Las Dos Angelas project that placed bronze statues at the Visitors Center, telling the story of St. Angela de Merici and Angela de la Garza DeWitt. The Lady in Blue/ Historic Beginnings of San Angelo—her last major project—celebrates the story of Sor María de Jesús de Ágreda spreading the Gospel to the Jumano Indians. This led Tilly to travel as far as Ágreda, Spain, and Rome. The statues on the river and a documentary on the life of Sor María and the Jumanos, filmed in part in San Angelo, were elements of this multiyear project. 

Tilly was passionate about her faith. She and Burton headed up RCIA (Right of Christian Initiation for Adults) at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Their vision and guidance in this program brought many people into the Catholic tradition. Tilly played a leadership role on the committee that built the Carmelite Monastery outside of Christoval, Texas. She continued to work with, be blessed by, and loved by the Carmelite nuns. 
Granddaughter Shawna Hillebrand wrote of Tilly: “Nanny loved each of us fiercely. From spending her summers carting us around all over Texas to making trips to New Mexico for birthdays, graduations, Christmas celebrations, weddings, and everything else in between, she made sure we knew we were loved. Nanny helped our parents shape us into young adults that everyone would be proud of. She made sure everyone knew how proud she was of us, too, and would often pull out photo albums to show us off and share our accomplishments. We never had a doubt how proud she was to be our Nanny. With each generation after her, her heart grew more and more as did her pride in her family.” 

Rosary will be Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at Holy Angels. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels, with burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. 

Pallbearers include: Robert Shepperd, Shane Shepperd Luke Hillebrand, Parker Staley, Randy Stout, Len Mertz, Phillip Mertz, George Randall, Billy Hillebrand and Kason Shepperd. 

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ty Hughston for many years of patient care; Hospice of San Angelo; and Victoria George for helping and loving Tilly through many challenges.

On Thursday, March 31, Darrel Ray Herode left this earth to meet his loved ones who had gone before him; his father, Howard Ray Herode; mother, Josie Fulkerson; brother, Paul “Bimbo” Herode; and stepmom, Ida Herode.

Public viewing will be from 2:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, April 3, 2022 and the family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside services at 11:00 AM Monday, April 4, 2022 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the directions of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Herode was born in Central City, Kentucky on April 24, 1948. Darrel spent 35 plus years in the oil field as a trucking superintendent where he met many lifelong friends who valued his hard work ethic and dedication. There was nothing more important to him than being a “Pappy” and “Grandpa”. He never lost his love for motorcycles and casino nights.

He is survived by two daughters, Karla Herode of San Angelo and Hayley Harper and husband Matthew of Hamlin; two sons, Johnny Herode of Midland and Wesley Herode of Abilene; a sister, Joyce Webb of West Chester, Ohio; a brother, Chris Stewart and wife Pam of San Angelo; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A special thanks to Chris Stewart for the countless hours of care and companionship he showed Darrel to the end.

Ida Doris Barron passed away March 31, 2022 and entered Heaven’s gates on her 93rd birthday. 

She was the daughter of Clyde R. and Gladys Barron, born March 31, 1929 at their home in Wall, Texas 

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, former husband Alvin Miller, son Ronnie Miller, infant son Donald Louis Miller, and brother Clyde Barron Jr. 

She was a loving daughter, wife, sister, mother, aunt, and friend to many. Doris graduated from Wall High School and attended San Angelo College where she was a Majorette in the Ram band. Professionally, she was co-owner of Texan Boat Company and served as RD Barron’s executive secretary 20 years at Barron Plumbing, Inc. 

Doris also served her community as a Deputy in the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department. She was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church. Her favorite activities included Go Cart racing with her family and playing bridge with her dear friends as well as competitive bridge clubs. 

Doris enjoyed traveling and music, especially when her son played with the Cavaliers band. She was also a charter member of the Elvis Presley Fan Club. 

Surviving Doris are her brothers, Weldon Barron of Ozona, RD and Mary Dell Barron of San Angelo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Kevin, Lisa, and Kanyn Barron, Sawyer Lloyd, Jessie, Rollins, and Brady Rosenquist; Ricky and Paula Barron; Tyler, Leah, and Des Barron, Madison, and Michelle Barron; Coltyn and Miriam Wagnon, Miah, and Ronnie Pullen; Michelle Barron Smith; Cathy Jean Barron; Randy Barron; Becky, Donnie, Ciera, Dakota, Shayla, Layla, and Daityn Lee; Monette and Tom Wilborn; cousins and dear friends. 

The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to all of Doris’ caregivers at Meadow Creek and Hospice of San Angelo for their loving care and support. Also, to Southland Baptist Church for their prayer ministry, visits, and cards. 

A private memorial service will be held at a later time. 

Raul Ybarra Juarez, 87, of San Angelo, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 31, 2022, in San Angelo, TX. 

Raul was born April 29, 1934, in New Braunfels, Texas. He was a loving father and grandfather. Raul Juarez retired from Reece Albert, Inc., where he was a truck driver for many years. He loved truck driving, fishing and especially he loved to go watch his great grandsons Noel and Elijah Sanchez play baseball in Miles, TX. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Santiago and Delores Y. Juarez; his wife Maria N. Juarez, one daughter, Barbara Juarez; one grandson, Christopher M. Juarez, his five sisters and one brother. 
He leaves behind his daughters, Barabara Gamez and husband Osiel, Carmen Palafox and husband Rudy, Vera Flores and husband Phillip, Irma Flores, and Jimmy Juarez, 20 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. 

The Rosary will be at 6:00pm, Monday, April 4, 2022, at Harper Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be at 10:00am, Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Osiel Gamez, Jr., Jacob Gamez, David Chappa, Andrew Chappa, Phillip Flores, Anthony Flores, Noel Sanchez, Jr., Elijah Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Adrian Maldanado, Adam Flores.

Sandra Kay Kesler Cox of San Angelo, passed away at her home, on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 after a brief yet fierce battle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband Michael H. Cox, son Derek P. Cox and wife Jamie, daughter Michelle Cox Mynatt and husband Britt, grandchildren McCoy Cox, Ivie Katherine Mynatt, William Mynatt, Emmie Grace Mynatt, Natalie Cates, Marae Cates and two nephews Allen Tuttlebee and Aubrey Tuttlebee.  

Sandra was born on November 5, 1945 in Del Rio, TX to Leroy “Bud” Kesler and Katherine “Kakie” Zuberbueler Kesler. She attended school in Del Rio at Sacred Heart Catholic School then graduated from Del Rio High School in 1964. She went on to study at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. She married her high school sweetheart Michael H. Cox on May 20, 1967. Sandra came from a large extended family and grew up with many of her cousins, considering them to be some of her best friends.  

The family ranch was Sandra’s “happy place” and she loved being there with her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Many holidays and long weekends were spent there enjoying the outdoors and being together with her loved ones.  

Sandra was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and a former board member for the Shumla School. She delivered meals to the elderly, loved baseball, working Sudoku puzzles, and made the absolute best Sour Cream Pound Cakes. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Katherine Zuberbueler Kesler and her sister Sue Ann Tuttlebee.  

Funeral services will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church in San Angelo, TX on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. A Rosary will be said beginning at 9:45am, with the funeral service to follow at 10:00am. Burial will be held at a future date, at the family cemetery in Comstock, TX. 

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to West Texas Rehab of San Angelo.  

Sandy was the pearl in the necklace of life.
