Rainey Jeffrey Lewis

07/16/2014 - 14:14 , by johnb

Jeffrey "Jeff" Lewis Rainey, 51, went to be in the arms of Jesus on Sunday, July 13, 2014. Bud and Sandra Rainey proudly welcomed Jeff into their family on May 9, 1963 in Abilene, TX. Growing up in a very close-knit family, Jeff treasured a deep love for his brother, Rusty and sister, Kristi.

Throughout childhood, Jeff matured into manhood while living in Floydada. All the while, he participated in a variety of sports. He also developed a love of nature, especially bird watching.

He graduated from Floydada High School as valedictorian in 1981 and received a degree in business from Angelo State University in 1985.

In 1985, he married Penny Kirtley, and from their union Jeff was ushered into his cherished role as father to Jayton Lewis on July 22, 1993. He thrived on being the best dad in the world as he thrilled to watch his son grow and mature while participating in many activities, including sports, science fair competitions, and A & M Corp. The pride he had for Jayton continued to his final earthly day. The bond between father and son was beyond measure.

While residing in San Angelo, Tonya Dierschke and Jeff were introduced by mutual best friends. God blessed the joining of their hearts in marriage on November 6, 1999, as Tonya became Jeff's bride.
Being doubly blessed in the marriage, he became a father to Tonya's daughter, Brooke.

With a deep and abiding love for family and friends, Jeff's heart swelled even greater upon the birth of his granddaughter, Parker from Jared and Brooke's marriage.

Jeff's greatest love was for his Lord and Savior. He lived his life in a humble and giving manner touching everyone he encountered. He shared his passion for God through his active participation at First United Methodist Church and in the Emmaus community serving as Lay Director in March of 2014. His servanthood extended throughout the community by sitting on the boards of West Texas Boys Ranch and Angelo State University Alumni Association. His joy filled spirit exemplified Jesus and was a testament to all.

The surviving family that was blessed to have loved Jeff here on earth includes his best friend & wife, Tonya, his children, Jayton Rainey of College Station, Brooke and Jared Kuhlmey of San Antonio, the apple of his eye, granddaughter, Parker Kuhlmey, his parents, Bud and Sandra Rainey of Friona, mother-in-law, Jo Sanford, brother, Rusty Rainey of Kansas, sister and brother-in-law, Kristi and Mike Neill of Canyon, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Todd and Shelly Sanford of San Angelo, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Tammy Hale of Plano, nieces and nephews, Kaleb, Jaelin, Megan, Maisie Rainey, Keegan & Blair and son, Bennett, Kendall Neill, Cole, Garrett, and Mattie Sanford, Kaitlyn Hale, other loving aunts, uncles, and cousins and his beloved dog, Buttercup.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A celebration of Jeff's life and love will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Sam Hunnicutt officiating. Internment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers for the celebration will be Jayton Rainey, Keegan Neill, Kendall Neill, Kevin Noland, Cole Sanford, Garrett Sanford, Moody Younger, & Bart Patzer.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jeff's Emmaus Brothers in Christ.

The family kindly asks memorials be made to the Concho Country Emmaus Community at P.O. Box 1522 San Angelo, TX 76902

Pennington Roger Dale

07/16/2014 - 14:10 , by johnb

Roger Dale Pennington, 64 of San Angelo passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 surrounded by his family. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Services are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Roger was born August 15, 1949 in Tahoka, Texas to Bobby and Betty Pennington. Roger was a humble man and enjoyed the simple things in life. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love of hunting and fishing or just being outdoors. Roger loved his family more than anything in this world. He was very close with his loving sisters Karon and Kellie. The three of them were inseparable. They were always there for each other no matter the circumstances. Later in life he met his best friend who also turned into his brother in law, Tommy Sikes. Until his final day, the two would constantly joke and prank each other whether it be in hunting camp or sitting around the kitchen table. He was welcomed into the world of fatherhood on August 25, 1969 with the birth of his oldest son Shawn. He loved everything about Shawn, whether it was talking about rodeo, hunting, fishing or just shooting the breeze. His proudest moment of Shawn was when he won his first roping. Roger always said, “Shawn will be great at anything he does.” The love and bond they shared was like no other. He was proud of everything Shawn did until his last day. On December 11, 1970 his beautiful daughter Kimberly was born. In his eyes she could do no wrong. She was the most perfect thing that he had ever laid eyes on. He was proud of her in all that she accomplished from gymnastics to modeling. She was also tougher than any boy around but always his little girl. He loved the idea of taking Kim hunting, but the reality was that he was always telling her to stop popping her gum or that she was being too loud and scaring all of the deer off. On November 12, 1980 his son Michael was born. From football, baseball, hunting or fishing to stock shows, he was always there sharing and teaching him how to be a man. He was always at the games cheering and pushing him to be his best. He also had time for the simple things like just sharing a story about the outdoors. On November 23, 1981 his youngest son Christopher was born. Roger and Christopher shared a love for fishing and enjoyed a variety of movies. To this day Christopher continues his love of fishing or watching movies to relax. Roger will always cherish the times that he and Christopher shared. His children and family meant the world to him but this was never more apparent until he became a grandfather. He loved all of them more than life would allow. He was always eager to hear about all of their achievements. His only regret was not being able to spend more time with each of them. His love for his grandchildren will be passed onto them throughout their lives. Haley girl and Jaydon, Thank you for being his guardian angels as he now becomes yours.
As a child Roger grew up with the love of the outdoors, football, baseball and rodeo. Roger had a great passion for bull riding and saddle bronc riding. He competed many times throughout his teenage years and early twenties. Roger was a police officer for over seventeen years for the City of San Angelo, four of which he was with the motor cycle unit. He truly loved everything about being an officer.
Roger is preceded in death by both of his parents Bobby and Betty Pennington as well as his younger sister, Kellie Asebedo. He is survived by one sister Karon Sikes and husband Tommy of San Angelo. One daughter Kimberly Zentner and husband Johnny of Christoval. Three sons: Shawn and wife Sissy of Stephenville, Michael Pennington of Fort Worth, and Christopher Pennington and wife Amber of San Angelo. Four wonderful grandchildren: Hayden, Haley, Bree and Spring. Three nephews: Lane, Jason and Adam. Two nieces: Melissa and Amber. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Uncle Buddy, Lane Sikes, Hayden Tate, Johnny Rodriguez, Seth Switzer and Wade Day.
The Family would like to thank the Day Family, Switzer Family, Betty and Bernay Sheffield for all of their love and suppor
