08/18/2014 - 08:38 , by johnb

SAN ANGELO Kenneth Frans Edborg, 84, of San Angelo, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, in San Angelo. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at Johnson's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at Christ Lutheran Church in San Angelo with Rev. Kurt Fangmeier officiating. Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Ken was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Ceresco, Nebraska to Edward and Hilda Olson Edborg. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for 23 years as a linguist translator. Ken's tenure in the U.S. Air Force allowed him to travel to many countries like Japan, Pakistan, Lybia, Saudi Arabia and Germany among other countries. He was stationed at numerous bases in the United States and also served for the NSA in Fort Mead, Maryland. Ken was very proud to serve his country and retired in August of 1975. After retirement, he went to work for the United States Postal Service as a clerk and retired from there after 17 years. Ken met the love of his life, Dorene Bowman, on Nov. 4, 1961, at the "Dixie Club," which Ken was very proud to tell everyone, and they were later married on Jan. 26, 1962, in Eden, Texas. Ken was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who adored his family and loved spending time with them. He was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and enjoyed watching the games. Ken's favorite thing to do was to drink coffee. Affectionately known as the "Bookkeeper" to his coffee friends, he loved going to Whataburger and spending time drinking coffee with them and reminiscing. Ken was a man of God who loved his church home. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church for many years and attended faithfully. Kenneth was an incredible, loving man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edward Duane Edborg; his sister, Ruby Smith and her husband, Donald Smith; his brother, Carl F. Edborg; his sister, Svea Smith and her husband, Cappy Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorene Edborg of San Angelo; his daughter, Marlys Shadle and her husband, James R. "Trey" Shadle III of Cypress, Texas; his grandchildren, James Kenneth Shadle and Franklin Edward Shadle, both of Cypress, Texas; two nephews, Von Smith of Colorado and Craig Smith of Omaha, Nebraska; one niece, Carolee Parsons of Omaha, Nebraska; and numerous special friends, especially Carol Harlow and family of San Angelo. Pallbearers for the service will be James R. "Trey" Shadle III, Virgil L. "Bunk" Bowman, Craig Smith, Robert Foster, Paul Wooten and Bobbie Baldwin. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Richard Zollett, Brian Zollett, Doug Wells, Ralph Verpoorten and Larry Spivey. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to Hospice of San Angelo.
