Johnson Betty June

10/09/2014 - 17:00 , by johnb

Betty J. Johnson, born to Harry C. and Maude Burdick Sheehan, on Dec. 22, 1926, in Pioneer, Texas, died on Monday, Oct. 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. in San Angelo, Texas. She was the seventh of 10 children, seven girls and three boys. She graduated from Pioneer High School lettering three years in basketball and was also team captain. The family then moved to Odessa during the war, where she met the man of her dreams, Lt. C.E. Johnson, AAC. She was a great service (USAF) wife for 22 years until he retired to San Angelo in 1963. They had three children, born all across the nation. Mama was always the room mother with the best cupcakes and party favors, longest nails and prettiest hair. When the song "Harper Valley PTA" came out, Dee thought it was about her mother, Mrs. Johnson. She loved games, football (YEA Cowboys), a good wit, laughter and humorous jokes, country western music that they could dance to all night and was a league bowler for years. She and her sisters loved to cook and bake for all of the holidays with 30 or more attending a sit-down, formal dinner with china. Everyone from the oldest to the youngest had personal decorations at their plates. She was the ultimate homemaker and mother. She was always there for her family and children no matter what or where they lived. She could take any piece of material and sew it into the next prom dress or curtain if needed. She lived as an Air Force wife in a different house every year for 20 years and the first week, made it a home. After retiring to San Angelo, our parents acquired their realtors licenses and dabbled there for a while. They became co-owners of MISS CE Mfg., and designed almost all of the clothing made there. She sold Penny-Rich bras on the side. Dad became ill and as in all things, health and family came first. They sold out in 1969, and they had 11 more great years together while they doted on grandchildren and family before Dad's passing in 1980. She was 54 years old and found herself having to go on without him. She took many part-time jobs and managed to keep her home afloat until her retirement in 1997. She never remarried because no one could touch the bar our father had raised. She missed him so. We always said he took the best part of her with him when he died. Now they are finally together again and we are sure they are dancing. She was preceded to heaven by our father, C.E. Johnson; her parents; eight siblings and nine of their spouses; several nieces and nephews; and her son-in-law, Robert (Bobby) Maus. She is survived by one sister, Nedra Hunnicutt of Channing, Texas; her daughter, Sherry J. Maus; son C.E. (Corky) Johnson of Sterling City; daughter Dee Johnson and her husband, Mark T. Harrison, of Terlingua; one granddaughter, Kerri Scarbrough; three grandsons, Scotty Johnson and Kim of Eldorado, Texas, Trevor Eckert of San Angelo and Taylor Eckert of Austin; and six great-grandchildren, Kelli (Chase) Hill, Bailli (Jake) Truelove of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kaden, Kiely and Kass Johnson of Eldorado and Trenton Eckert of Garland. She was looking forward to her first great-great-grandsons, due a week apart in February. And she hopes you dance. Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may express condolences and sign her online guestbook atjohnsons-funeralhome.com.
