Angela Martinez 100, died Wednesday. at a local care center.
Prayer service will be at 7:00 pm, Friday, October 2, 2015 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.
Graveside Service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Angela is survived by son, Lenard Hernandez of San Angelo, TX, daughters, Isabel Hernanderz of Mexico and Estella Fernanderz of Chicago, IL

Larry Mike Ward

Family and friends mourn the loss of Larry Ward, beloved brother, friend, colleague and genuinely all around good person. He often expressed sincere gratefulness for what he called his 'wonderful and blessed life.'

Larry was born in Bronte, Texas, February 7, 1953.
His life spanned a wide range of interests, competencies and accomplishments. He was a gentle man, determined, quiet and caring—a deep thinking man. He stood firm in his values which meant at times he was also a rebel, and an adventurer, as well as patriot.

At 17 he rebelled against the establishment by leaving school rather than conform to a haircut-rule, and toured Texas playing the drums in a rock-and-roll band. And by contrast, later served his country, in the US Air Force earning the Air Force Commendation Medal. His sense of adventure eventually led him, a few years ago, to quit his job, sell his house and take off on a sabbatical, traveling across the country, visiting friends and family.

Much of his early music interest and business sense was keenly honed under the guidance of Leonard King, laying the foundation for Larry's broad skill set -and eventually to his excellent reputation as the "go to" problem solver in the retail music business.

He earned his Bachelor and Master's Degrees in Psychology, leading to a long career in Psychological counseling. He was a purposeful, devoted and maximally committed caseworker, influencing many challenged individuals to turn their lives around. Working with both Special needs kids, and devoting his time to drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, Larry positively influenced many lives and families.

Larry's known by many through his creativity, competence, crafting and performing wonderful songs while also nurturing other musicians and songwriters in developing their talents. Larry's songwriting included beautiful, moving love songs, and folk songs describing people he knew (Windmill Man, and Roger Allen's Potter's Wheel.) He crafted upbeat songs (Get Happy) and humorous songs (Procrastination Blues) and country/americana songs (Second Hand Man) as well as many faith-based songs.

He was a founding member of the 1st Saturday Chicken Pickers group and active as an organizer, performer, and soundman at the 2nd Thursday Concerts at the Chicken Farm Art Center.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Alice and Garland Ward, and his brother Gerald Ward. He is survived by his daughter Aubrey K. Ward, his sisters, Judy Ward, Glenna Damstra, Rita Parr, and Sandra Strickland, 9 nieces and nephews, twenty-two great nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Vicky Bagwell.

In his recent struggle with cancer, Larry expressed deep appreciation to the Shannon Medical community, especially those who worked with such dedication to the end of his struggle – Dr. Hume and Dr. Cummings.

Larry will be deeply missed but remembered lovingly by so many—a man full of gratitude for a blessed life.

Memorial services will be held at the Unity Church, Sunday, October 4, 2015, at 2:30 pm followed by a "Celebration of Life" at 4pm with food,
refreshments and music at the Chicken Farm Art Center,
2505 Martin Luther King Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in his name may be made to the
Chicken Farm Art Center -Artist Development Fund,
or to the cause of your choice.

Rayburne Wayne Russell

Rayburne W. Russell, 93, of San Angelo, Texas, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015.

Family visitation is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with Dr. James Hassell of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

He was born on March 4, 1922, in Lubbock, Texas, to Charlie and Etta Durham Russell.

Ray Russell retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 35 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII, serving on a PT boat in the Mediterranean through at least six major battles.

He and his wife of 67 years were members of the First Baptist Church for over 54 years.

He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Danny; and his wife, Rose Ellen. He is survived by his youngest son Robert; his daughter-in-law, Sonja; and two grandsons, Toby and Tyler.

Frank Daniel Aguirre, 69, of San Angelo, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Lydia Aguirre.

Visitation will take place Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North from 3:00 to 9:00 P.M. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 that evening at the funeral home.

Lionor Nora Velez

Lionor "Nora" Velez, 83, of San Angelo, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born to the late, Frank and Ninfa Luna Martinez on Sunday, May 29, 1932 also in San Angelo. She married the love of her life, Juan Velez on September 21, 1947 also in San Angelo. Nora was a member of the Second Baptist Church, San Angelo. She worked over 25 years as a housekeeper with El Patio Hotel. Nora was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was known for her laughter and her cooking talents. It has been said that she never learned to say "no". Nora had a sweet tooth and enjoyed singing hymns in Spanish, although no one ever told her she was out of tune. Nora's family and friends will forever remember her hugs and nicknames she gave. She will be missed greatly. Nora was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Juan Velez, Jr. and Ventura Velez, II.; brothers, Frank, Moses, Cruz, and Joe Martinez; and sisters, Lily Valdez, Rosa Castaneda, and Carolina Cantu.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Juan Velez, Sr.; children and their spouses, Elva Sanchez (Adam), Elsa Martinez (Ruben) of San Antonio, George Velez (Sandra)of Arlington, Elesa Larez (Steve)of Round Rock, Enedina Rivera (Edward) of Haslet, and Ercilia Luna (Juan); daughter-in-law, Laura Velez; 20 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; brothers and their spouses, Noe Martinez (Lucinda) and Samuel Martinez (Elizabeth); numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel with visitation to follow. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 1, 2015 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, San Angelo.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice and Eucebia Dominguez Velez for the exceptional care given to not only Nora and Juan but to the whole family during this time.

Daniel Aloise Strube

Daniel A. Strube, 80, of Wall, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015. Daniel was born February 5, 1935 and was the tenth child of A.W. and Mathilda Strube. He grew up on the Strube farm and in April 1956 married his sweetheart, Sherline Michalewicz. They began their marriage in Washington while Daniel was enlisted in the US Army. Soon after that they made their home at the original Strube place in Wall and raised their six children. Together, Sherline and Daniel taught their children the importance of a strong faith, good work ethic and a generous heart. Daniel was a dedicated and hard-working farmer who enjoyed taking care of the land and watching the cotton grow into a beautiful crop. He was especially proud to farm the land that his father once farmed. He also enjoyed raising cattle and checking his Eola ranch. In his retirement, he enjoyed helping his son, Roger, and grandson, Justin Daniel, farm and took great pride in knowing that his great-grandson, Stehl Daniel, would one day help to farm the Strube land. Daniel enjoyed many years with good friends in the 'Hunting Bunch' and loved to go fishing with his good buddies. He was also a member of the KC's, Wall Young Farmers, and Wall Volunteer Fire Dept.
Frequently, you could find him having coffee at the gin and talking about farming, cotton or maybe even bragging on his grandkids. Daniel was lovingly called "PoPo" by nineteen grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Sherline; son- Roger Strube and Debbie Norris; daughters: Sherry Holubec and husband, Dennis; Denise Latzel and husband Stanley; Paula Frerich and husband John, Pattye Furr and husband James; and Kelly Matschek and husband Bruce. Grandchildren: Jessica Norton, Bailey Holubec, Koreley Whittington, Derek Latzel, Kayla Hartl, Nicole Finch, Chelsea and Justin Strube, Blake Frerich, Kortni Vanicek, Shelby Kalina, Shayna Neighbors, Danielle Dunn, Kristen Dennis, Ethan Furr, McKenzi, Mason, Brylee and Reid Matschek and 24 great grandchildren. Also, sister-in-law, Margaret Strube.
Daniel is preceded in death by his parents AW and Mathilda Strube, brothers: Otto, Gilbert, A.W. and Marvin; Sisters: Olivia Schwertner, Alice Wilde, Valeria Wilde, Cordula Wilde, and Florine Gray.
A rosary will be held on Tues., Sept. 29, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wed., Sept. 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Derek Latzel, Blake Frerich, Justin Strube, Ethan Furr, Mason Matschek, Reid Matschek, Kollen Furr, and Cooper Latzel. Honorary pallbearers will be his hunting bunch and Lisa Edwards, Darryl, Clayton, Karl, and Doyle Weishuhn. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo.

Leo Price Connally

Leo Price Connally of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2015. He is survivied by his devoted wife of 54 years, Betty Connally, two daughters, Suzan Johnson and Tracey McCullough of San Angelo along with Tracey's husband Jesse McCullough and a son, Richard Scarbro and wife Paris Scarbro of Giddings, Texas. He is also survived by two sisters; Judy Arnold of Kermit, Texas and Bonnie Pickarts of Franklin, North Carolina. Leo had seven loving grandchildren; Mathew Johnson, Kelly Scarbro, Ben Scarbro, Travis Scarbro, Lauren McCullough and Abbey McCullough as well as four great grandchildren. Mr. Connally was preceeded in death by his parents, Billie and Horace Bryant, and four brothers; James Connally, Bill Connally, Jo Ed Bryant and Roger Bryant.
Leo was born in Electra, Texas on September 9, 1935 and lived a life of service beginning with his years in the Navy from 1955 - 1959, discharged as a Staff Seargent. In Kermit, he served as City Councilman for 15 years as well as Mayor Protem and many community boards. He served many years as a Gideon and most recently was the president of the Silver Stars and Sunday School teacher at Glen Meadows Baptist Church. Leo and Betty retired from running two businesses in Kermit, Texas for 35 years and moved to San Angelo in 2000. 
Viewing will be held at Robert Massie Funeral Home from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Wednesday, September 30th followed by funeral services at 2:00 pm at Glen Meadows Baptist Church in San Angelo. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.
