ROBERT “SCOTT” HERWECK, 74, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 at his home in San Angelo, Texas. He was born on October 28, 1942 to Robert and Scottie Herweck in St. Louis, Missouri.
Scott is survived by his wife Peggy Herweck, son Derek (Melissa) Herweck of Dripping Springs, TX, daughter Holly (Carl) Marshall of Corpus Christi, TX, Sisters Lynnda (Brad) Findley of Fredericksburg, TX, Barbara (Nick) Marsico of New Braunfels, TX, Peggy Herweck’s children Dr. Anthony (Lydia) Soldano of Austin, TX, Sandy (Brent) Jameson of Wall, TX, David (Kassie) Soldano of San Angelo, TX, his grandchildren Eric Michael, Shania, Collin, Colton, Mackenzie, Pierce, Auburn, Andi, Sierra, Hayden and Beckett as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Scott graduated from McAllen High School in 1960 and attended Pan American University before joining the U.S. Air Force, where he served for four years. Scott was stationed for one year at Lackland Air Force Base and for three years at Randolph Air Force Base where he worked in the Records Department for Headquarters, Air Training Command.
After serving in the military, Scott moved his family back to McAllen and was employed by Valley Shamrock as a supervisor for all of the Shamrock gas stations in the Valley. When many of the Shamrock stations closed, Scott transferred to Vista Oil in Edinburg. Scott later became the manager of Fiesta and Flamingo Bowl in McAllen. Scott was last employed as the manager of Edinburg Truck Stop in Edinburg, TX, until his retirement in 2005.
Scott had a passion for sports, especially baseball, which he played in high school as well as college. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers as well as hunting, fishing, bowling and playing golf. He enjoyed being outside working in his yard, and was well known for his famous fajitas. He had a love for Country music and he could often be found out on the dance floor. Scott loved spending time with family and friends as well as with his little princess, Lilly his dachshund.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Kindred Hospice in San Angelo, Texas. Their dedication and commitment to providing quality care during Scott’s final days was a blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of Scott’s life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
There will be two memorial services which will be held honoring Scott. This first will be on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 2 pm at the St. John’s Episcopal Church, 2500 North 10th Street in McAllen, TX. The 2nd memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 2pm at the Harper Funeral Home, 2606 Southland Blvd, San Angelo, TX.
