Walter "Walt" Wilson Britton, 80, of San Angelo, TX, went to be with the Lord on January
14, 2017, from a short illness.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on January 18, 2017 at Harper Funeral Home
Chapel. Brother Brad Winchester of Grape Creek Baptist Church will be officiating.
Visitation will be held at 6-8 p.m. on January 17, 2017 at Harper Funeral Home. Burial
will be 9:30 A.M., Friday, January 20, 2017 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX. Funeralarrangements are being handled by Harper Funeral Home.
Walt was born in Rotan, TX on October 23, 1936 to Grace Ellen Summers and Wiley
Ogden Britton. He graduated from Kline High School in Houston, TX and continued on to
Eastfield College where he took management courses and referred to it as the "high
school with ashtrays".
Walt was married to Doris Evelyn Fannin on May 6, 1960; they were married 56 years and
was blessed with two children.
Walt worked as a plant operator for Enron Gas Company for 25 years and then worked for
Enterprise Rental Cars and Sam's Club for 10 years until the age of 78. His greatest
achievement was retiring from the Texas National Guard after 30 + years of military
service. He was an avid fan of Fox News and politics; he also enjoyed skating, dancing,
and coaching soccer when the kids were younger and spending time with his
grandchildren and great grandchildren when he was older.
Walt is survived by his wife, Doris of San Angelo, sister, Dorothy Glynetta Callan of Rotan,
TX, daughter Karen and Buddy Maples of Mesquite, TX, son John Scott and Carollee
Britton of Midland, TX, grandsons Brandon and Anna Harris of Hawley,TX, Christopher and
Serena Harris of Little Elm, TX, Austin and Victoria Britton of Austin, TX, and Baylee Britton
of Midland, TX, granddaughters Jessica Harris of Midland, TX, Lyndi and Jason Lewis of
Midland, TX, Ashley and Timothy Umstot of Chesapeake, VA, great grandchildren, Jordan
and Brystin Harris, Navaida, Reese, and Lillie Harris, Jonathan and Sterling Murphy, and
one on the way, Brantley Umstot, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins and friends.
Walt is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jeannetta Britton, and
granddaughter Tatum Layne Britton.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Hospice of San Angelo, PO Box 471,
San Angelo, TX 76902. The family of Walt Britton wishes to thank Hospice of San Angelo
staff, and a special thank you to Nora, Susan, Nancy, Oscar, Ann, Celina, Mary, and
Barbara at Regency House Nursing Home.
