Pearcy John Sherman

07/19/2019 - 09:54 , by zoey@hydeinter…

Lifelong San Angeloan John Sherman Pearcy, 61, left behind scores of loving friends and family when he passed away on Monday, July 15, 2019. John was born in San Angelo on July 3, 1958 to John Pervis and Bertha Jewell Pearcy. He attended Austin Elementary, followed by Lee Junior High and Central High School where he was a member of the CHS marching band. During high school, he began working at Baskin-Robbins where he worked for over ten years and formed lifelong friendships with many regular customers. After high school, he attended Angelo State University where he was a proud brother of Pi Kappa Alpha and graduated with a degree in Government. He loved to tell stories of his days “at the Pike House.” Between road trips to Alaska and multiple drives to Maine, river trips to Lajitas and Santa Elena Canyon, memories with his friends were some of his favorite stories to tell. After graduation, he started a life of entrepreneurship and opened the San Angelo staple of Short-Stop Hamburgers. As a business owner, employer and man of the community, he helped countless people get back up on their feet and gave opportunity to all of those he came across. For many years he was an active member of the San Angelo Jaycees where he gave his time and energy back to the community that had been so good to him. With a heart as big as Texas, helping others was what he loved to do. He was generous to a fault and sacrificing his own needs and desires for the benefit of others is what defined his life. His main pride and joy was his family who he made sure everyday to let them know how loved they were. He loved hosting people at his home and celebrating holidays were his favorite, with a love for Christmas that would rival that of Clark W Griswold. He adored his Grandchildren and wore the title of Grandpa with the most pride. As the Patriarch of The Pearcy’s, he was a true blessing for all of those that he came across.
He is preceded in death by his Father, John Pervis Pearcy. He is survived by his mother Bertha Jewell Pearcy of San Angelo, the love of his life, his wife Christie Pearcy, his son Stewart Pearcy and wife Rachel of Haslet, TX, their children Abigail Grace Pearcy, Jayden Huntley Sullivan and Kennedy Claire Sullivan, his daughter Morgan Leigh Siler of San Angelo and her children Jayden Brent Gesch, Duncan Sage Siler and Willie Slade Siler, his daughters Brooklin, Emilee, and Morgan Olson of The Colony, TX, his sister Linda Ratliff of San Angelo, the mother of his children Kellye Duncan of San Angelo and dozens of other family members and friends, in particular his best friend since 1st grade, George White of El Paso. The family would like to extend an invitation to any of those that knew John to a visitation on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 6PM-8PM at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo. Funeral Services will be on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 10AM at Harper Funeral Home with Pastor Scooter McCurdy officiating and a graveside service to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Hunter Montgomery, Clifford White, Ronnie Trevino, Chris Ratliff, Tommy Nault, and Bryan Bridges.

Paine Janette Compton

07/16/2019 - 12:11 , by zoey@hydeinter…

Janette “Jean” Compton Paine, 63, of San Angelo, made her transition July 3, 2019, with her loved ones at her side. She took her last breath upon the close of a reading from the 23rd Psalm. Jean had been an accountant in the telecommunications industry. She was born to the late John Pierce and Jeanette Darlene Smith in Brownwood, Texas, on September 7, 1955. Notably, she shared her birthday with two older brothers, who were also born that day, four and seven years her senior. She married the late James Ernest Compton in 1979, and they lived together in Texas and Georgia until the 1990s. Jean is survived by her brothers, Jack and Chuck; her four children: Misty Barron, of Oklahoma, and Jessica, Jeremy and Matthew Compton, of San Angelo. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Stefan and Felicity Compton, and two great-grandchildren. In the 1990s, she remarried. The last name stuck; he did not.

Jean loved animals and children. She especially loved cats and the other “strays” her children brought home. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an avid researcher, home-school teacher, and longtime friend to those who made it into her cultivated circle. Jean nurtured those close to her. She had a particular affinity for the missionaries who tended to her when she was hospitalized. Jean was anti-religion but full of God. The simple words “I love you” she texted randomly and often to her children.

Jean was a survivor, a lover and a warrior. She carried within her untapped strength that shone through during her eight-month battle with cancer. The family particularly thanks her private caregiver, Leah, and the friends who visited during her illness. Also, we are grateful for the people of Hospice of San Angelo, the staff at Shannon Medical Center, and the caring providers of Hope Wellness Center.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at San Angelo's Unity Spiritual Center where she was a member.

Gober Bonnie R

07/12/2019 - 15:41 , by zoey@hydeinter…

Bonita Rhesa (Reid) Gober was born on February 18, 1928 to Martha Ella (Jones) Reid and Julius Ashley Reid in the small town of Tankersley, just west of San Angelo, Texas. She passed away on July 11, 2019 in San Angelo, the center of her life for more than 91 years.

She was married there to James Walter Gober, Jr. (J.W. or Jimmy) in 1947 until he passed in 2007.

Survivors include son James Michael and wife Theresa, their son Bill, and daughter Kriste and husband Chris; son Donald Reid and wife Joy, their son Jon and wife Jeannine, and son Reid and wife Leah; and son Jon Alan and wife Carol, their son Russell and wife Jen, daughter Erica and husband Charles, daughter Keisha and husband Shaun, daughter Laurie, daughter Kelli and husband Scott. Bonnie also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren to cherish her memory.

She was known as Bonnie, and sometimes as Bounce, a nickname that reflected her attitude about getting things done and life in general. She was a telephone switchboard operator as a young woman both before marriage and after her boys grew older. Barely five feet tall, and not yet 19, she walked the 20 blocks between her parents’ home and work in high heels and was never late.

Bonnie and Jimmy were Charter Members of Belmore Baptist Church in San Angelo in the 1950’s. She was an active participant in the neighborhood near this church where she raised her family, including activities at Bellaire Elementary School. Bonnie had an extraordinary memory for names and personal information. One of her favorite stories was surprising local schoolchildren at a Halloween Carnival by “divining” everything about them while disguised as a “Gypsy Fortune Teller”; they never suspected that she was the lady down the street who knew everyone on the street and many related details as well.

Bonnie and Jimmy started a family business over 50 years ago that is still in the family. They ranched in San Saba County, Texas less than a mile from where her great-grandfather and great-grandmother were buried many years after coming to Texas in the 1850’s. Bonnie’s family teased her about being a “pioneer woman”, but she really was cut from the same cloth as the generous, loving, and hard working people who came before her. Every day, for many years to come, she will be missed by the lives she touched.

Funeral services will occur at 10 am on July 15, 2019 at Belmore Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas, and will continue thereafter at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Johnson’s Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
