This 94-Point Bareback Ride Ties World Record, Sets New San Angelo Record at 2020 Cinch Chute-Out

SAN ANGELO, TX — Tim O’Connell didn’t win the PRCA finals called the Short Go Friday night at the San Angelo rodeo but he came to Saturday’s Cinch Chute-Out ready to rumble.

The six-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier with over $1.7 million in career earnings on bareback broncs drew two good horses Saturday night.

It was on Northcott Macza’s horse named Stevie Nicks that O’Connell scored a record-setting 94-point ride

“There’s no words you can put into the feeling that you get. The only thing you can compare it to is the birth of my son,” he said.

He referred to the ride as “6 points off perfect” and it tied the world record while also setting the arena record for the San Angelo Coliseum.

In the first round of the 2020 Cinch Chute-out, O’Connell scored an 89.5 on a horse named Medicine Show. In the interview above, he compared the differences between the horses.

O’Connell picked up $2,050 in earnings during the two rounds at the PRCA portion of the rodeo, finishing in a tie for 6th in the 2-ride combined score of 170 — an 86 in the first round and an 84 in the second.
