Elmer was an active DE (distributive education) student. A class that prepared him well for his profession. He graduated from San Angelo High School in 1953. Following graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean Powell on October 30, 1953, at the parsonage at Harris Ave. Baptist Church.

While in high school, Elmer began working at J & K Shoes located in the Village Shopping Center selling shoes. He attended San Angelo College after High School. Elmer loved people and never met a stranger. He counts not only those he sold shoes to as friends but the old HEB store, the Walmart Neighborhood Center on Knickerbocker, and Trans Texas Credit Union employees as friends. He was always wanting to share good cheer and an uplifting message with everyone he met. He never missed an opportunity to share one of his favorite songs with others.

Elmer was very active in the Lions Club and the recovery community, having had over 43 years of sobriety and sponsoring many young men who still consider him a father figure and mentor.

Eudene Smith

04/28/2023 - 14:36 , by TKing09

Dorothy Eudene was born on January 6, 1932, to Adolf and Eufaula Spradley in Frisco, TX. The eldest of three children, she was raised in Muleshoe, TX and later moved and graduated from Slaton High School. While there, she met the love of her life, Thomas Smith, and later the two married while Tom was on a three-day pass from Ft. Hood. It was a romance for the ages, and she was the treasure of his heart from the time he met her. They were married 68 years at the time of his passing in 2020. Together, they moved to San Angelo, TX while Tom worked for the Santa Fe railroad. Eudene went to work as a bookkeeper at the Foremost Dairy and later worked for several accounting firms. She was a mother to Mike and Jim Tom as well as several foster children. After retirement, she spent several years as the Dorm Mother at Massey Men’s dormitory at Angelo State University. Tom and Eudene moved to Christoval, TX in 1989 where they were deeply involved in the chamber of commerce, local community activities and events, and were ardent supporters of the Christoval Cougars. They enjoyed years of ranch living, carrying grandkids around on “the buggy”, and hosting barbecues and Easter egg hunts. Generally speaking, you could find her in the garden, riding the tractor, or pitching tennis balls to the grandkids. Eudene was active in the church community at Immanuel Baptist Church for years and later at Christoval Baptist. A God-fearing woman of faith, Eudene raised Mike and Jim Tom to love God and His word. She instilled these same foundations within her grandchildren which is evident by the legacy of faith that lives in her sons and their families.

Eudene joyfully entered into the Lord’s presence on April 25, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons, and her husband. To carry on her legacy, she leaves Mike Smith, wife Penny, their children and grandchildren: Mical and husband, Josh Boness and their children, Jake and Tucker; Peter Smith and wife, Torie and their children, Emmalyn and Hudson as well as son Jim Tom Smith and wife, Chel, their children and grandchildren: Justin and wife, Chelsea and their children Danielle, Josalyn and Kerrigan; Cody; and Rhiannon and husband, Justin Kelso and their children Jadon, Mitzi and Auron. Together they volunteered many hours teaching ESL, as Sunday School teachers and working with the Soup Kitchen. He also embraced the many ASU Korean exchange students they graciously fostered as grandparents.

Bobby was a man of few words and many talents. He loved plants and scavenging for them to fill his 3 greenhouses and huge yard. He was a Master Gardener, serving as the State President in the past.

Always an artist, many of his unique sculptures, ceramics and artwork are all over the United States, as well as his master woodworking creations.

Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Peiser, his parents, CH and Bonnie Peiser, his daughter, Linda Meyer, siblings, Cliff Peiser, Shirley Boatright and Sandra Kaye Woerner.

Those left to treasure his memory are his wife, Karen Peiser, of San Angelo, Texas, his daughters, Karen Binder (Ed) of Ballinger, TX and Debbie Kennedy (Bill) of Rio Frio, TX., his son-in-law, Robert Meyer, his brother, Bill Peiser of San Angelo, TX, grandchildren, Eric Warner, Tracye Lassus(Rand), Amia Dominquez, Lacy Thomas(Adam), John Binder(Amber), Mackenzie Moon(Steven) and Brittany Batot(Lee). The family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo, Kathy Duarte, Concho Valley Master Gardeners, John Begnaud, Clyde Warren and Dennis Trujillo for their help during these difficult times.
