ERNESTINE M. TORRES, 75, of Knickerbocker Texas, passed away on July 29, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She was born on September 26, 1948, in San Angelo, Texas to Herbert Villareal and Eva Morales Torres. She grew up in Knickerbocker, Texas. She graduated from Christoval ISD. After graduation, Ernestine began working at GTE, later Verizon, for numerous years in San Angelo Texas, and later transferred to the Dallas offices where she worked for 15 more years until her retirement in 2004. She returned to her home in Knickerbocker, where she cared for her mother. She was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Mission in Knickerbocker, Texas. She spent her life giving to her church, family, and community. She also served in different capacities on the Parish Council and Financial Council boards at Immaculate Conception. She was instrumental in obtaining grant funding for the Church Hall kitchen expansion.
Before moving to the Dallas area, she served on the Knickerbocker Community Center board and was a member of the San Angelo Women Business Association for several years.
She is survived by her siblings, Vidal (Maricella) Torres, Herbert (Charlene) Torres, Mary (Eddie) Garcia, Evangeline Torres, Raymond (Cheryl) Torres, Carlos (Sherry) Torres, Sally Torres (Rene Fernandez), and Reginald (Patricia) Torres, and sister-in-law Virginia Torres, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margaret Torres, and niece, Regina Garcia. Left to cherish her memory are her family and friends. Also, her dear friends Oscar and Corina Gomez, and sons Greg and Gregory from Dallas, Texas, and family members from San Antonio and California.
A rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Mission,12264 W. Torres Rd. in Knickerbocker Texas at 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Mission at 10:00 am. The interment will be in the Knickerbocker Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher Torres, Herbert Torres Jr., Joseph Torres, Raymond Torres, Henry Begil and Gabriel Rangel. Honorary Pallbearers Oscar Gomez, Gaspar Coronado, and Deacon Victor Belman.
