Alvin Wankowski

Al Wankowski passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2025, at the age of 94.

Memorial Rosary be prayed at 6:30 PM Monday, June 30, 2025, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Santiago Udayar, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Military Honors will be afforded buy the Goodfellow Military Honor Guard.

Al was the grandson of Polish immigrants, Al was born in a small farmhouse near Crivitz, Wisconsin on October 7, 1930, to parents that were potato and dairy farmers. He was one of thirteen children, the youngest of seven boys. Life was hard, money was scarce growing up during the great depression. During WWII, he helped his parents manage the farm while some of his older brothers were off fighting in the war. At the young age of 17, in 1948 Al joined the newly formed United States Air Force, and in a few short months, a young man that had never been more than much more than 100 miles from home, found himself in the occupied US Territory of Guam. He made a career of the Air Force, attaining the rank of Chief Master Seargent, retiring out of Goodfellow Air Force Base, in San Angelo. It was while in service that he met the love of his life Marilyn J. Mullins. They would marry on March 14, 1953. After retirement from the military, Al became a proud member of the San Angelo Association of Realtors for over thirty years.

Al and Marilyn were parents to six children. Twin sons, Allen and Bruce, Robert, Allan, Eugene, and Kurt. Al was proceeded in death by Marilyn, the twins, Robert and Allan. Al and Marilyn were very proud of their grandchildren, Jason Wankowski, Christina Peterson, Carl Wankowski, Kayla Wankowski, Marla Wankowski, Jerimiah Wankowski, Katherine Babcock, Kristen Brenek, and nineteen great grandchildren. Al and Marilyn loved their Catholic Parish of Holy Angels in San Angelo, where they were members for the greater part of sixty years.

The Wankowski family hold deep gratitude for the many caregivers that took care of Al and Marilyn these past many years. They became affectionately known as "Al's Angels". Particular gratitude goes too Kristy Perez, who assisted Al above and beyond. The family also wishes to give thanks to the many friends that gave their time and visited with Al and Marilyn in their waning years, their lasting friendship will not be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers memorials maybe made to Angelo Catholic School, 2315 S A&M Ave, San Angelo, Texas 76904

Douglas Wayne Steen

Douglas Wayne Steen, 70, of San Angelo, TX went to be with his Lord on June 22, 2025 with his family at his side.

Doug was born July 2, 1954 in San Angelo to Clyde and Daisie (Boykin) Steen.

Doug grew up and attended school in San Angelo. During his childhood years, he attended East Angelo Assembly of God Church with his family.

Doug me the love of his life, Roylene (Bobo) Hallmark and they have spent 48 years together.

Doug was proficient in dry wall and painting, mostly during spring and summer months. This included working on the current Shannon Medical Center. He worked in the oil field during the winter months, mostly because of the weather and it was harder work.

He was also an expert in auto body and auto mechanics. He restored many vintage cars and built his own race cars assisted by his buddies and grandkids. He truly loved to race cars, and it became a family tradition.

Doug’s compassionate heart enabled him to assist many elderly with auto repair, plumbing, and painting.

Doug loved to ride his motorcycle. He and Bobo made many trips across Texas, such as the Twisted Sisters, Fort Davis, and Luckenbach, as well as West Virginia and Niagra Falls.

Doug is survived by wife, Bobo; son, Stephen Steen of Jacksonville, TX; daughters, Traci Harvey (Sam) of Keatchie, LA, Krystal Hallmark and Kasey Steen of San Angelo, TX; grandsons, Zach Bishop (Taylor) of San Angelo, Hunter Herd of Jacksonville, TX, Dylan McClelland, Levi Herd (Marsiela), Zane, Kolten, and Hunter, all of San Angelo; granddaughters, Tiffeney Parks and Taylor McClelland-More (Marcus) of San Angelo; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Hinds (Randy); brother, Leroy Steen (MyRanda); brother-in-law, John R. Hallmark (Diana) of Magnolia, Texas; sister-in-law’s, Barbara Whittaker of Odessa, David Ann Knight (Ronnie) of San Angelo, and Judie English (Paul Wayne) of San Angelo; and his fur babies, Compton and Hollywood.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his in-law’s, Roy and Shirlie Hallmark; sisters, Linda Walters and Judy Woods; brother-in-laws, Russell Woods and Alfred Woods; and great-granddaughter, McKenna Moore.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harper Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be Friday, June 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Crossroad Assembly of God, 301 Marie Street, San Angelo, TX. The burial will take place at 2:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery in Bronte, TX.

Pallbearers will be Matt Matheny, Tony Marcum, Donny Brown, Nathan Herd, Earl Baker, and James Baker.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of San Angelo staff for their care provided during this time, especially Laura, Jessie, and Ray.

Samuel T. Martinez, 74 of Sonora passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 10:00a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Sonora Cemetery. Survivors include wife Guadalupe Martinez, son Christopher Martinez, daughters Vanessa Martinez and Jeannette Martinez, brother Ramiro Martinez and sister JoAnn Gamez.

Juanita Santellano

Juanita Santellano, 84, left this world on Saturday, June 21, 2025, peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her loving family.

Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the Rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Litergy of the Word will be at 10:00 Am Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Jesse Leyva, officiating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Santellano was born July 19, 1940 in Hacienda La Esmeralda Municipio De Zaragaza, Coahuil, Mexico to Hermenegildo and Maria Lopez. Juanita married Remigio Santellano on December 2, 1961. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2017. She has been a resident of San Angelo since 1962. Juanita loved the Lord, cooking, and going to get her hair done. Her fondest memories were being with her family. Juanita expressed in her last months that her desire was to see her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and she most wanted to see her newly born great-great grandson.

Survivors include her two sons, Rudy Santellano and wife Teresa, and Robert Santellano; three brothers, and four sisters; five grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.

Ray Reed Barrett, Jr.

Ray Reed Barrett, Jr. of Midkiff, Texas, transitioned peacefully in his sleep to his eternal home on June 11, 2025, at the age of 91. He was born on October 8, 1933, in Plainview, Texas to Margaret Ann Morriss Barrett and Ray Reed Barrett, Sr. Ray exemplified a life rooted in integrity, hard work, and a profound dedication to family, faith, and country living.

A graduate of San Angelo High School, Ray made his mark on the fields of baseball and football. He also was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University class of ‘55 with a degree in Agricultural Economics. Ray proudly wore the #60 uniform of the legendary Coach Bear Bryant’s "Junction Boys" during his college football career. His athletic prowess led to recognition as a Scholastic All-American and an esteemed member of the "All Opponent Team" selected by Oklahoma State.

After graduation Ray married Patricia Tippett Barrett, his childhood sweetheart, on November 12, 1955. They met in sixth grade when Ray’s family moved across the street from the Tippett’s house. Following their wedding, Ray and Patricia moved to Midkiff, Texas. Ray embarked on a successful career in farming and ranching. With a steadfast commitment to hard work, he grew his business over the years, cultivating cotton fields, managing a thriving pecan orchard, and raising cattle and sheep. Ray's dedication to agriculture not only provided for his family but also contributed to the local economy, showcasing his deep-rooted connection to the land and community.

Ray’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. Ray served as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at the First Baptist Church of Midkiff, later becoming a cherished member of First Baptist of Greenwood, TX. His commitment to education was evident with the over 20 years of dedicated service as a past Treasurer and an active member of the Rankin ISD School Board. Ray also contributed significantly as the President of the Texas Pecan Growers Association and as a founding member of the Midkiff Coop.

Ray was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of almost 52 years, Patricia in 2007, as well as their infant son, Gilmer Ray Barrett, and son, James Morriss Barrett. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Sarah Barrett Hilgart of Dallas; his son, Richard Barrett, and daughter-in-law Denise of Arlington; his daughter-in-law Carol Hickman Barrett (now married to Mike Ashfield) of College Station; his treasured grandchildren: Tricia Hilgart Glander, James “JJ” Hilgart, Heather Barrett, Jackie Barrett McMillan (Jeremy), Nathan Barrett (Kelly), Jodi Barrett, Tiffany Barrett Hart (Josh); his precious great-grandchildren: Ellie, Callen, Camdyn and Emma McMillan; and James and Margaret Barrett.

Ray was a man whose unwavering faith, clear vision, and deep devotion enriched the lives of those around him. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and strength leaves an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him. His spirit will continue to guide us, a testament to a life lived with purpose, generosity, and steadfast love.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Glen Meadows Baptist Church of San Angelo, TX, at 11 a.m., followed by a catered barbeque lunch at noon.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Ray’s long time caregivers Mary Laster and J.J. Hilgart. We also appreciate the care and compassion shown by Glen Meadows Baptist Church and Harper Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's research, Buckner’s Boy Ranch, or Samaritan’s Purse.

Betty Jo Varner

Betty Jo Varner, age 95, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. 

She was born on July 2, 1929 in Crane, TX to Vernon Gilbert Hunt and Pauline Hunt. Betty attended Overton High School and graduated in the class of 1945. She married Jimmie Varner on April 3, 1948 and had two children. Betty was a proud member of the San Angelo Genealogical and Historical Society and had a passion for family history and will always be remembered for her love of family, grandkids, great-grandkids, reading, and working in her yard.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Varner; parents, Vernon Gilbert and Pauline Hunt; and her brothers, Pete Hunt, Jack Hunt, Billy Ross Hunt, Thomas Hunt, and Joe Pat Hunt.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Diana Krug (Robert) of Denton, TX and James Varner (Jan) of Andrews, TX; grandchildren, Karen King (Mike), Brook Varner (Jessica), Luke Varner (Whitney); great grandchildren, Alex, Colin, Campbell, Hudson, Walker, Emma, and Tate; siblings, Bob Hunt, Don Hunt (Deloris), Sue Havins, Mary Kull, and Molly Pruitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a memorial donation to the San Angelo Genealogical and Historical Society.

A visitation for Betty will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard, San Angelo, TX 76903. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 435 West Beauregard, San Angelo, TX 76903. A reception will take place immediately following the funeral service.

Jackie Oma Williams

Jackie Oma Williams, 63, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, in San Angelo.

There are no services scheduled at this time. cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Jackie graced the world with her presence on December 8, 1961, in Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of Bruce Gaither and Faye Gill. She married Ricky Harold Williams and pursued her education at Sylacauga High School. Jackie spent many fulfilling years in Sylacauga, Alabama, and Panama City, Florida, before eventually making her home in San Angelo, Texas.

With a spirit that embraced life, Jackie found joy in walking along the beach, immersing herself in the teachings of the Bible, and passionately supporting the Alabama football team.

Her legacy lives on through her eldest child, Maranda Williams, and her wife, Sukeenia Williams, as well as her youngest son, Rickey Williams II. She was a proud grandmother to Naveah Williams, Rickey Williams III, and Elijah Williams. Jackie is also survived by her sister, Elisa Wilson, and her husband, Mike Wilson, along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, and uncles, all of whom will cherish her memory.

Alan Geoffrey McCollough

Alan G. McCollough, 68, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, at his home.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. McCollough was born October 10, 1956 in Edinburgh, Scottland to Walter and Mae McCollough. Alan has been a lifelong resident of San Angelo. He married Connie Littlefield on April, 14, 1921 in San Angelo. Alan worked for the San Angelo Parkes department of over 15 years, Alan also did odd jobs.

Survivors include his wife, Connie McCollough; two sons, James Matthew McCollough, and Denver Lane McCollough; three step-sons, Jeremy Cochran, Jesse Cochran, and Ryan Farmacka; two brothers, Douglas McCollough, and Brian McCollough.

Fidel Ramirez

Fidel Ramirez, 68 of San Angelo passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Celebration of Life services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 30, 2025 at Christian Church of San Angelo. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Ramirez was born on December 13, 1956 in El Paso to Federico, Sr. and Josefina Hernandez Ramirez. Fidel was a dishwasher at O'Malley's, Ponchos, and Henry's. Later he worked in the commissary at Goodfellow Air Force Base. Fidel was a workaholic and a people person. He loved visiting with everyone he encountered. Fidel had a big heart.

He is survived by two brothers, Roland Ramirez and wife Michelle of San Angelo and Federico "Fred" Ramirez of San Angelo; two sisters, Criselda Ponce of Mansfield and Sandra Rodriguez of DFW; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fidel is preceded in death by six siblings, Sylvia Castaneda, Ophelia De Leon, Marti Selda, Alice Lewis, Roland Ramirez, and Herminia Sanchez.

Annette Nixon Lasater

Annette N. Lasater died on June 21, 2025.

Annette Ruth Nixon was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the second daughter of Ruth and Edgar Nixon, on June 20, 1938, and lived her life in Colorado until she married Laurence “Laurie” M. Lasater.

She attended the University of Northern Colorado and University of Colorado, receiving a B.S. degree in Business Management with a Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education. Annette was inducted into a business honorary fraternity in 1958. After graduation and until their marriage, Annette lived in Denver, Colorado, and had executive secretarial positions at Continental Airlines and Continental Oil.

Annette and Laurie were married in Laredo, Texas, on November 21, 1964. They lived and ranched in northern Mexico, in the state of Coahuila, near the town of Múzquiz, for 10 years. Both of their children, Laurence “Lorenzo” M. Lasater, Jr., and Annette Isabel, were born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.

They returned to the United States in 1972, where they lived and ranched in San Angelo, Texas, for more than 50 years.

Annette is the author of four books: Two to Mexico, a memoir of their 10 years living in Mexico; and three children’s books, Lorenzo and Don Clemente; Granddad’s Farmhouse; and School Days and Book Learnin’.

She was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo and served on the Tom Green County Library board and the regional library board, as well as various committees and charity volunteer work.

Annette is survived by her husband, Laurie, of 60 years, as well as their son, Lorenzo, and his wife, Leslie, and their daughter, Isabel, and her husband, J.C. Hernandez. She is survived by five grandchildren, Watt and Beau Lasater, and Luke, Benjamin, and Sabella Hernandez, and three great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Elizabeth Lasater and Emma Lasater. She is also survived by her sister, Dixie Nixon, of Tucson, Arizona, and several nieces and nephews.

“Mom A” was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother whose fierce family devotion and loving heart touched many. She will be truly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to a charity of your choice.
