Barbara Adale Green received her angel wings on the evening of August 6th, 2024. She was born February 21st, 1949, in Brady TX, to Edward F. Schmitt and Alma Cleo Schmitt of Melvin TX. She later moved to San Angelo, TX and lived a very full life and made many friendships.

Barbara was known to always have her home opened to the neighborhood kids that wanted a safe fun place to be. She never told anyone they could not be there. If you ever had the opportunity to have a home cooked meal by her, she blew your taste buds away. She enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone, especially if the food came from her garden where she really enjoyed spending a lot of her time.

She enjoyed having evenings with her very close friends playing cards at the kitchen table and having a night full of laughter or going fishing and teaching her kids and grandkids how to clean a fish for the family fish fry's.

She also is remembered by the Lake View community where she spent many nights cheering in the stands for her grand-daughters in the sports they played. She made an impact on all the students there and became known as the town Granny. If she could support you in any way she made sure she was there.

She was a devoted Christian and attended bible studies to make her relationship with the Lord that much stronger. She was ready to be with the Lord and she is happy to be home.

She is survived by her ex-husband and long time friend J.R Green, son Norman Morrison and daughter in law, Christie Jo, daughter Jodie Green, granddaughters Macy Green and Julia Green, grandsons, Jordan Velez, Johnny Morrison, Garrett Morrison, Jacob Morrison, Isaiah Morrison, Seth Morrison, Nicholas Morrison, Luke Morrison and many great great grandchildren.

Stanley Keen, 76, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024, in San Angelo, Texas, following a battle with cancer. He was born on November 16, 1947, to Stanley Newton Keen and Violet Venette Bradley in Bowie, Texas.

Stan started school in New Mexico. In 3rd grade, the family moved back to Texas to work on ranches in Winkler and Pecos Counties. From the age of 13, he day worked on the weekends and throughout the summer where he honed his cowboy skills. In high school, Stan competed in the AJRA rodeo circuit. He rode saddle broncs and bulls and won many amateur rodeos. In his junior year, he won the Champion Bull Rider buckle in the AJRA Rodeo finals. In 1966, he graduated from Odessa High School and went to work on the Slash Ranch. By then, he was a PRCA card holder and continued to rodeo professionally until March of 1968, when he was drafted into the United States Army. During his time in Vietnam, Stan was trained as an artillery survey specialist and received several commendations. He finished his time in country as a general’s aide.

Following his time in the service, Stan’s resume included surveyor, Frank and Ball Ranch manager, and 20 years at JL Davis Gas Company, but his passion was always ranching. He liked to say that going to his job everyday was how he supported his ranching habit. He always had a small herd of roping steers but in his retirement years he built a herd of 100 head of mother cows. He was never happier than in those years. There wasn’t a horse he couldn’t ride or a cow he couldn’t rope. A longtime friend, Jerry Clayton, said, “If you looked up Cowboy in the encyclopedia, there would be a picture of Stan Keen”.

Stan is survived by his wife, Kay; their three children, Matthew (Ariel) Holcomb, Holly (Drew) Rylander, and Caitlin (John) Dressler; eight grandchildren, Colton Tatsch, Bao Rylander, Rankin Rylander, Finn Holcomb, Lincoln Rylander, Hazel Holcomb, Mathis Dressler, and Eden Dressler; his sister, Billie Sharp and brother, Jack Keen, and many nieces and nephews.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Fred Keen, his sister, Emily Ann Keen, and his brother-in-law James Sharp.

Serving as pall bearers are Jim Sharp, Jason Sharp, Colton Tatsch, Rankin Rylander, Bao Rylander, and Lincoln Rylander. Honorary pall bearers are Matt Holcomb, Finn Holcomb, Drew Rylander, John Dressler, Mathis Dressler, and Robert Roark.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00pm. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Glen Meadows Baptist Church, at 2:00pm. Burial to follow at Mertzon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers Stan asked that you refrain from voting Democrat in the next election.

Debra Jean Linger, 80, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on August 3, 2024. 

She was born to the late Everett and Lorraine Linger on July 18, 1944 in Lubbock, Texas. 

She is survived by three sisters and two brothers. 

Burial will be held at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10 AM with Chaplain Diamond Dool officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Johnson’s Funeral Home.

Whitt Michael Martin, 17, passed away on Thursday, August 1st, 2024, at his home in Eldorado, Texas.

Services will be held on Friday, August 9th, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Brushy Top Cowboy Church in Eldorado, with a meal following for all who attend.

Whitt was born in Georgetown, Texas, on May 8th, 2007, and was a junior at White Horse Christian Academy. A true son of Texas, he experienced many aspects that our great state has to offer, until finally settling with his family in Eldorado. Whitt lived the cowboy life which he loved so much, whether it be roping, gathering cattle, rodeos, or helping with the ranch. All who knew Whitt knew him as a loving, kind-hearted young man with an old soul who would give you the shirt off his back. His blue eyes and bright smile brought joy and happiness to all who were lucky enough to experience them.  The love he had for his family is only outmatched by the love his family has for him. He was truly one in a million, and the energy from his light was powerful enough to touch the hearts of the people around him.

Survivors include his parents, Jacie Martin and Justin Stewardson, sisters, Gracie Martin and Jaedyn Stewardson, grandparents, James and Marilee Pierce, Jan and Willy Grimes, his uncles, Breck Pierce and Robert McCausland, as well as great grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other loving family members.

Bernice Przilas Schwartz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend gained her angel wings August 6, 2024.

Bernice was born September 4, 1943 in Schulenberg,Tx to Otto and Martha Klein Przilas; the youngest of four children. At the age of 4 months, the family moved to Umbager, Tx (Randall County) where Bernice went to school, won spelling bees and graduated high school in 1962.

In that same year, she married the love of her life and favorite dancing partner, Kenneth Schwartz on November 22. The newlyweds relocated to San Angelo, where Bernice lived while working on the family farm, gardening, raising her four children and remaining active in her faith. Bernice was Kennth’s tractor pulling, truck driving, cotton stomping help mate for 61 years. She and Kenneth had four loving children. CynDee, Kent (special friend, Jan), Kyle, and K’Cee.

Bernice had a strong and special relationship with her only grandchild, Taylor. She would let him drive down the road on her lap as a toddler, never missed a football or baseball game, gave him his very own treats drawer and enjoyed surprising him with meals of pork chops and green apples left in his truck at school. She was very proud of the outstanding man he has become.

Bernice was an avid supporter of her children and community; she enjoyed attending and cheering her children and their friends at Wall Hawk football, basketball, baseball games, and band recitals. She and Kenneth loved to fish and camp and would often take their children to the river. The last meal of the trip was always fried fish and homemade pickles from the garden. She also made the best homemade ice cream for ice cream suppers.

Bernice loved to dance. She was a member of the Wall Polka Dance club where she and Kenneth would dance the nights away all over the state of Texas. They were a beautiful sight to behold, spinning and gliding across the floor in their polka costumes that Bernice had sewn with pride.

Bernice was an active member at St. Ambrose Catholic parish. She volunteered as a reader, Eucharistic minister, sacristan, and sang in the church choir using her voice to praise the lord. She trained altar servers, was part of the baptism preparation team and made corsages, boutonnières and beautiful bench markers for parishioners’ weddings. She was an active member of St Helen’s Altar society and Catholic Daughters of America: Court of St Catherine of Sienna.

Bernice loved being outdoors and working in her garden. She had a green thumb and grew every vegetable imaginable. She loved flowers and made many trips across the state with her daughters in search of new and unusual flowers to bring back to West Texas. Bernice was also known to carry a shovel in her car at all times, in case she passed a plant on the roadside that she had to have. In 2013, she became a Master Gardener.

Bernice was an enthusiastic and accomplished quilter, belonging to two quilting clubs: the Wall Country Quilters and the Piece Makers. She enjoyed her monthly socials with her Bunko friends and wanted them all to know how thankful she was for them being her eyes so she could see and continue to play as she struggled with her vision in later years.

Bernice always said that she felt like she would return to earth as a mockingbird. “They always have something more to say and so do I.” Whenever you see a mockingbird, remember her with a fond memory and smile wholeheartedly. She will be missed but will carry on through the multiple memories and lives of the people she touched.

Bernice will be available for viewing on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M. The Graveside Service will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery in Wall, Texas.

Linda Beam was born March 24, 1953, in Texas City, Texas to Oscar Wilson Gregory and Hazel Amelia Gregory. She departed this life August 4, 2024, In San Angelo, Texas.

Linda attended the Texas State School for the Blind where she met the love of her life Darvin “Pee Wee” Beam. They were married March 4, 1978.

Linda is survived by brothers in-law and sisters in-law Kenneth and Linda Dye, Raymond and Linda Beam, and Alta McClellan as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda found joy in attending church services at the Salvation Army, attending or listening to local high school football games, and periodic professional baseball games.

She enjoyed playing the keyboard as well as listening to Gospel music and country and western music.

Visitation will be August 8, 2024. 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo Texas.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in San Angelo Texas.

Avigilio A. Castillo, Jr., from Mertzon, passed away unexpectedly in his home on August 2, 2024, in San Angelo.

Avigilio attended Irion County then joined the United States Marines and graduated from bootcamp as a Marine Corporal on April 2, 1976, in San Diego. He was then stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan, until he was honorably discharged in1980. After serving, he returned to his family in Mertzon.

“Junior” met and married Valleri Kiser, the love of his life. Their union resulted in their three children, Ramon Carlos, Monica Elena, and Mario Jesus Castillo.

Junior is proceeded in death by his parents Avigilio Castillo, Sr., and Leonor Castillo, brothers-in-law Jerry Malone, Thomas Hubert, and several nieces and nephews. Junior is also survived by his son-in-law, Daniel Sanchez and grandchildren, Dieudonnée, Athyna, Barrett, Emelia and Zikiah.

Junior was a long-haul truck driver for almost 30 years; he loved the road. He loved that he had driven from coast to coast and from the deep south to upper northern states. He was so glad to show his young sons different cities and states. Young Ramon and Mario traveled from inside Mexico to and into Canada with their Dad. To his daughter’s extreme disapproval, she did not get to share in the road trips with him. Monica loved to bake cookies for her dad’s return home. He must have loved his daughter too much to allow her to experience life on the road. Junior spoke about the sights he witnessed and traveling on rough and dangerous roads through snow and icy conditions. He was a test driver for Goodyear. Junior mentioned how much he liked his coworkers in Goodyear.

Also left to cherish his memories are his siblings, Dominga (James Rambo), Mario Castillo, Susana Castillo (Hubert), Sylvia Malone, Sandra (Mando), Diana (Robert), Norma Castillo, and Jesus (Amanda) Castillo and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to VA’s home health staff, whom Junior called his “nurses”. Junior’s family would like to express their love and thanks to the workers and staff at Family Dollar, Sonic, and Stripes, and especially to Julio’s on the corner at Knickerbocker Road. To the fellow neighbors at the Bellagio Apartments, thank you for your kind words and help to our father and brother.

Mario De Leon, Jr., 35, of San Angelo passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Viewing will be from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with a wake service at 6:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mario was born on January 10, 1989 in Richland Hills and attended San Angelo Central High School. After high school he worked as a mechanic at Jim Bass Ford for 7 years and was later an IT Field Tech for Tel-Pro Communications. Mario was a loving son and a great big brother to his siblings. He was always smiling, joking, and loved to be the life of the party. He loved to fish and hang out with his family and friends. Tio Mario, will be especially missed by his nieces and nephews.

Mario is survived by his Mother, Margaret Jasso and husband Abelardo of Crowley; his father Mario De Leon, Sr. of San Angelo; his three siblings, Edward De Leon and wife Vanessa of San Angelo, Brandon De Leon and wife Amanda of San Angelo, and Mariah De Leon of San Angelo; his fiance, Rosemary Rodriguez and her children, Alyrica and Mason; his maternal grandparents, Jesus and Ilda Aguirre of San Angelo; his paternal grandmother, Irene De Leon of San Angelo; his nieces and nephews; Edward Jr, Adaylnn, Jeremy, Braylon, Brielle, and Julian.

John David (Jake) Young, of San Angelo, passed away to the arms of the Lord on August 5, 2024. He was born August 21, 1932, in San Angelo, Texas to Ollie Richard Young and Velma Thigpen Young.

Jake’s parents helped to build the original home of San Angelo’s Harris Ave. Baptist Church where they attended and were charter members. Jake was the last surviving charter member.

A highlight of Jake’s childhood was participating in the Little Olympics Relays, where he earned a 1st place medal, just as – to his great delight – his grandchildren would do many years later.

At the age of 18, Jake joined the Navy, serving until his father’s death less than 2 years later. He received an honorable discharge to return home to care for his mother and young sister. On November 24, 1955, Jake married Gloria Ann Bitner, with whom he raised three loving children in the house his father built on S. Archer Street. He served as a valued member of the San Angelo Police Dept. from 1966 until his retirement in 1992. One of Jake’s greatest joys was becoming “Poppa” to his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He loved watching them grow and enjoyed camping, hunting, and adventuring with them, as well as cheering them on at all their school events over the years. He was a man of many talents, including welding, teaching his grandson the basics and making many trailers and smokers with and for friends and family. A lifelong barterer, collector, and lover of local history, Jake amassed a trove of unique artifacts and treasures which will live on and be cherished by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Some of the indigenous artifacts in his collection are now on display at the Fort Concho Museum in San Angelo. Jake was also an avid outdoorsman. His adventures ranged from his own back yard all the way to Alaska & Canada, making lifelong memories with cherished friends and family members.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Donald Richard Young, his sister, Judy Raye Vick. He is survived by Gloria, his wife of nearly 69 years and their three children, Cynthia Bulloch (Mike) of Horseshoe Bay, David Young (Mitzi) of Fredericksburg, and Carolyn (Susie) duBois (Chris) of Killeen, granddaughter Kirsten Joyner (Tim) and children Rowan, Lydia, Elanor and Edmund, granddaughter Brook duBois (Roy Scheeren), grandson Jerrod duBois (Taylor) and daughter Amelia, grandson Jake Young (Genevieve Miura), grandson Shane Young (Abi), step-granddaughter Christi Copeland and her children Harper and Haddie, and step-grandson Taylor Bulloch (Mandi Goldwing) and their daughter Bryn, as well as his sister-in-law, Dottie Young. Jake was also a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, led by Rev. Neil Connor and special, long-time friend, Russell Smith.

Amelia Pedroza Perez, 89, went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2024. She was born in Eola, TX and lived her adult life her here in San Angelo. She will be missed by so many who loved and cherished her.

She has joined her parents, Genaro and Mercedes Pedroza (Eola, TX), brother, Felix Pedroza (Ft. Worth, TX), sisters, Beda Pedroza Gonzalez and Isabel Pedroza both of San Angelo, TX.

She is survived by her husband, Ernesto Perez and two sons, Ernest Jr. Perez and wife Betty (McAllen, TX), and Hector Perez and wife Martha (San Angelo, TX); grandchildren: Stephanie Perez Gonzalez (Portugal), Lance Perez (Lubbock, TX), Blake Perez (Singapore) and Allyssa Perez (San Antonio) and 5 great grandchildren; sister, Pascuala Gamez (Irving), and brothers, Mike Pedroza (Louisiana) and Joe Pedroza (Ft. Worth).

A rosary will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held a 10:00am on August 8, 2024, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
