Man Sentenced to Life in Prison For Indecency with a Child

A 46-year-old man was sentenced to mandatory life in prison Monday following a conviction for indecency with a child (sexual contact).

Joe Ed Davis, born Jan. 14, 1968, was at a relative’s house in San Angelo around June 27, 2012, when he made contact with a 14-year-old boy. According to the 119th District Attorney’s Office, Davis was arrested in Fort Worth and transported back to San Angelo prior to his conviction.

The charge, indecency with a child, is a second-degree felony. The charge was enhanced to mandatory life in prison due to a previous conviction in Tom Green County in January 1990 for indecency with a child.

Davis was found guilty in a trial without jury by 391st District Judge Tom Gossett. Assistant District Attorney Leland Lacy served as prosecutor for the case; Stuart Holden served as defense.

The incident that occurred in San Angelo in 2012 was investigated by Cade Solsbery with the San Angelo Police Department.  

Davis’ criminal record shows he has been previously jailed in Tom Green County for multiple theft charges.
