Fernandez Anita B.

01/04/2014 - 18:01 , by johnb

Anita B. Fernandez was born Anita Guerrero Bara to parents Melecia G. and Fernando Galindo Bara in San Angelo, TX on July 14, 1928. The family lived on South Irving close to St. Mary's church for several years and then moved to the 218 West Ave D. property which is still in the family. She had three brothers Rubin G. Bara, a War Hero, killed in action in the Korean War and brothers Pete G. Bara Sr. and Manuel G. Bara of San Angelo, TX.
Anita married Damas Martinez Fernandez on June 5, 1946 in San Angelo, TX. Anita was madly in love with the handsome hunk, Damas so one Sunday afternoon they just never came home from the movies according to granddad. Anita had three children Rachel F. Zuniga, Rene B. Fernandez, and Ruben B. Fernandez of San Angelo, TX. She has eight grandchildren and three great-grand children of the Zuniga, Torres, Tambunga, and Fernandez families. She also has several God-children locally and in Arizona.
She has numerous cousins, nieces, nephews of the Galindo, Bara, Contreras, Carrillo, Ortiz families, and the Martinez, Ornelas, Gonzales, Keenan, Bonilla, and Fernandez families. Anita also had a faithful and beloved caretaker for several years, Maria Garcia to whom the family is very grateful.
Anita has lived in San Angelo all of her life. She worked for the Omer Dreiling family for 49 years, where she helped raise three children Mary D. Howard of Houston (deceased), Martha D. Rolland, Barney Dreiling and Margo D. Ebanks all of Dallas, TX who were very present in her life to date. She has several grandchildren of the Dreiling family who have also been very present in her life.
Anita has been active in her faith and her church as volunteer Eucharistic minister, visitation of the sick, her prayer group as CCD Coordinator, pastoral council and donations to help restore the foundation of St. Mary's Church and to start the St. Vincent De Paul Store in San Angelo.
Anita has been active in business and politics and in 2009 was solicited to be included in the Who's Who in American Business Women. Anita helped her husband, Damas, with his furniture business for many years while working a job of her own.
Anita rounded up many relatives, neighbors, and registered many voters for voting day and drove them to the polls. Her dad always said, "You can't complain if you don't vote." She always supported the candidates she believed would do the most for people.
Anita has always helped those in need or less fortunate than herself. She has been known to write or translate letters for neighbors who could not read or write. Anita has always helped people who were hungry or needed clothes or transportation or a place to live as far as she was able.
More importantly, Anita has been a great example by her life as a faithful woman, a devoted wife, a Hero of a Mother, a superior friend who supported and enjoyed and enjoyed her friends so much. She has been elated to be present with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite question was always, have you been to church…but with love. Anita has also been known for her humor, her wit, and a sharp tongue.
The Rosary will be 7:00 P.M., Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Rodney White as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
