PermalinkBill Richardson, the reason the Japanese did not land in LA is not because of an armed population. It was because they didn't have a navy that could get them here. They were too busy getting harrassed by Admiral Nimitz.
Further, an armed population with single-shot AR-15s is no match for Obama's Bureau of Land Management or the other 100 or so alphabet soup agencies that have billions of rounds of ammo and a couple of M1A1 Abrams tanks left over from Iraq.
I'm not sure what an armed carry demonstration proves to the government.

PermalinkGood question. We'll find out. Over at The Dallas Morning News, they reported that there is no right to openly carry handguns.
"The meeting comes less than a week after a shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left four dead, including the gunman. The massacre renewed calls among gun activists to loosen laws stopping Texans from openly carrying handguns. Current law requires, in most cases, that handguns be concealed and those carrying them to be licensed."
