Chavarria Maria

Maria Luisa Chavarria, 78, of San Angelo passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014 at a local hospital. 

Family visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, March 24th at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 25th at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Gabriel Garza officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. 

Maria Luisa was born on September 23, 1935 in San Angelo to Candido and Luz Pena. She married Pedro Chavarria, Sr. on May 1, 1951 in San Angelo. He passed away on June 17, 2005 after 54 wonderful years of marriage. Maria loved spending time caring for her family whether it was cooking menudo, tamales and huge homemade tortillas where she picked up her nickname “Wela Pizza” or listening to music with her family. Maria was an active Jehovah’s Witness for over 50 years. Wela had several special grandchildren including Harley Delgado, Valarie Hernandez and Alena Hernandez. Wela will be greatly missed. 

She is survived by a son, Pete (Sarah) Chavarria Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth (Louis) Hernandez; son, Roy (Maria) Chavarria; son, Joe (Azalia) Chavarria; son, Juan Chavarria all of San Angelo; daughter, Carmen (David) Trevino of San Antonio; son, George (Lucy) Chavarria of San Antonio; son, Ezekiel (Loretta) Chavarria of Mason; son, Jeremiah Chavarria; sister, Tomasa (Gonzalo) Rios; sister, Maclovia Flores also of San Angelo; grandson, Gabriel (Melissa) Chavarria; grandson, Johnny Chavarria; granddaughter, Linda (Leo) Delgado; granddaughter, Abigail Chavarria; grandson, Juan Hernandez; granddaughter, Erica Ann Hernandez; granddaughter, Amy (Johnny) Garcia; granddaughter, Monica (Eugene) Trevino; grandson, Roy (Rita) Chavarria Jr.; granddaughter, Norma Chavarria; granddaughter, Angela Chavarria; granddaughter, Andrea (Aaron) Lopez; granddaughter, Andrea (T. J.) Pena; granddaughter, Ana Alicia (Shawn) Hudgins; granddaughter, Maggie Chavarria; granddaughter, Desirae (Joel) Rosas and 27 great-grandchildren along with 1 great-great-grandchild. 

And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, 
and death will be no more, neither will mourning 
nor outcry nor pain be anymore. 
The former things have passed away.” Rev 21:4 

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Anthony DeMory and his nurses, Shannon ICU Staff; Doctors Chris and Rudy Haddad along with Dr. Brenda Owens. 

Pallbearers will be Aaron Lopez, Jonathan Garcia, Brandon Trevino, Aaron Chavarria, Gabriel Chavarria and Roy Chavarria, Jr.

Graves Bobbie

Bobbie L. Graves, 83, passed from this life on Friday, March 21, 2014.
Born Bobbie La Wanda Jones, August 7, 1930 in Tahoka, TX, to Benjamin and Willie Pearl Jones, she was the youngest of seven children, who have all preceded her in death except one brother, Ross Jones of Portland, TX.
Bobbie leaves two sons, Marty Dawson of Lovington, NM and Douglas Graves of San Angelo, TX. Along with 2 granddaughters and 2 great granddaughters.
Bobbie made many friends while in San Angelo where she attended the Baptist Temple Church and loved her antique booth at the Concho Confetti.
Bobbie retired to San Angelo after a long career with the Bellaire Police Dept. in Bellaire, TX, where she helped pioneer the 911 emergency phone service and became Bellaire's first female Sergeant.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Sagecrest Alzheimer's Care Center for taking care of our mother and to Don and Rosemary Starr, because you never forgot her!

Matthews Frederick

Frederick L. Matthews, 60, of Christoval, passed away Saturday, 3/22/2014, at his home, after a long fight with cancer. Frederick was born 11/6/1953 in San Diego, California, to Alton and Betty Matthews. He married Jeanne June 19, 1993 in San Diego. 
Frederick was in the grocery business over 20 years while in San Diego, and about one year at Tres Amigos in Christoval before his illness. He enjoyed horseback riding. 
Frederick was an elder of the Christoval Cowboy Church, served as Chaplain and a firefighter for Christoval VFD, and was a member of the Christoval Masonic Lodge. 
Survivors include his wife, daughter Katie Matthews of Christoval, sister Stephanie Anderson of Christoval, brother-in-law Fred Anderson of Christoval, niece Anita Garza of Amarillo, Orlando, Kayla, and Caeden, and many cousins in California. 
The family would like to express deep appreciation to the staff of Odyssey Hospice.

Riddle Nelda

Nelda Ruth Gallas Riddle, of Miles, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 in San Angelo, due to respiratory complications.She was born July 5, 1939 to Emil and Louise (Kiesling)Gallas. Nelda graduated from Central High School and then married Thomas Henry Riddle on June 7, 1958. 

They shared a wonderful 50 years together until Tom's death in 2008. 

She is survived by her daughter Starla and husband James Matthiesen. Their children and grandchildren: Joe and Lacy Matthiesen, Harlee, Jacey and arriving soon Grace; Jamie and Justin Strube, Evan, Cade, and Paige; Leslie and Nathan Glass, Emily and Sophie; Brad and Angie Matthiesen, Makaila, Maddox, and Damien; and Rev. Samuel Matthiesen. 

Daughter, Marla and husband, Russell Sanders; their daughter Kelsie.

Son, Thomas Clay Riddle and wife Stacie, their children and grandchildren: Megan and Derek Doss, Kyleigh, Heidi Adlen(Nelda spelled backwards), and Lance; Seth, Miranda and Sloan.

Sisters, Amy Dickson, and Lenora Reid, brothers, Melvin and Leroy Gallas, brother-in-law Alvin Riddle, and sisters –in-law Phyllis and Maxine Riddle.Numerous nieces and nephews and loving extended family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, father and mother-in-law Lloyd and Vera Riddle, brother and sister-in-law Clinton and Helen Gallas of Ohio, and sisters Mary Gallas, and Edna Marie Rice, sister and brother-in-law Ellen and Glyn Elkins, sisters –in- laws Helen Gallas and Jessie Gallas and brothers-in-law, Gene Dickson and Gerald Reid. Tom's brothers, James and Carl Riddle and sister-in-law Iris Riddle and great granddaughter Dylan Rose Matthiesen.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. 

Visitation will be held at 9AM Monday, March 24, 2014 at Immanuel Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Monday, March 24, 2014 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Miles Cemetery.
