God granted mercy on Reverend Seth T. Thomas on February 11, 2015. The youngest of 13 children, he was born to Reverend Andrew Thomas and wife Annie Powell Thomas on August 4, 1919, in Calvert, Texas. During their elderly years, he took care of his parents and later moved to San Angelo to live with his oldest brother Melchisedec and his family and became a member of New Light Baptist Church. Reverend Thomas served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge.

He loved God and allowed God to use him as an ordained minister to counsel many people and preach His word as Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church for 34 years. During his ministerial service he was an active member of the West Texas Progressive Baptist Association and attended Local, District, State, and National Conventions.

The family that has gone before him was his parents, sisters: Beulah Autry, Ludie Grant, and Dora Thomas; brothers: Melchisedec Thomas, Walter Thomas, John Thomas, Jethro Thomas, Julian Thomas, Rev. L.T. Thomas, and Andrew Thomas.

His memories are cherished by his children, 3 daughters: Sally Thomas Ayana, Lonnie Thomas Frazier (husband Rev. Johnny R. Frazier, Sr.), Laverne Thomas Gordon, and his only son, John E. Thomas. He has 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. He also has a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He loved singing hymns daily to his Heavenly Father and God loved him so much that he granted his wish to go home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cedar Manor and Interim Hospice of San Angelo for their loving care and for keeping Seth and his family in their prayers during his final days.

The family will be accepting friends and relatives Thursday, February 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday, February 20, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery

Carlos Martinez, 40, passed away at his home in San Angelo Tuesday, February 10, 2015. He was born March 14, 1974, in Stephenville, TX, to David Vivian and Patricia Martinez.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy, and two daughters, Cheyenna and Cyvonna.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 13, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 14, 2015, with Pastor Frank Montez officiating.

Pedro "Pete" Gutierrez, Sr., 64, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015, in San Angelo, Texas. He was born April 12, 1950, in San Antonio, TX, to Jesse Gutierrez and Refugia Ramirez.

He is survived by his wife, Dinah Caseres; sons, Pedro Gutierrez, Jr. (wife Leticia) of Ft. Worth, TX, Juan Manuel Gutierrez, Sr. (wife Bunnie) of Lubbock, TX, and Thomas Gutierrez (wife Victoria) also of Lubbock, TX; brother, Jesse Gutierrez of San Antonio, TX. Pete is also survived by 7 sisters and 4 grandchildren. 

Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00P.M. Friday, February 13, 2015, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/Knickerbocker. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Pete's wishes were to be cremated.

Clara Oliver, 85, of San Angelo died February 10, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Center.
Clara, born February 7, 1930, in Lubbock, married J.T. Oliver in 1947 in Eliasville, and resided in San Angelo since 1968. 
Clara was a member of Southgate Church of Christ and volunteered at Shannon Hospital.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband J.T. and her parents, Loyd and Polly Reid. Survivors include her sons, Alan and wife Sue, of Gardiner, Montana, and Mark of San Angelo, sister Betty Wingo, and grandson Joshua of Colorado Springs.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12th between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., at Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 13th at 11:30 a.m. in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to Rust Street Ministries.

Cleo Maurice Trantham 92, died February 11, 2014 at The Springs, San Angelo. Maurice was born August 16, 1922 to Lee Bolden and Addie May Eply Trantham in Mills County. 

Maurice was married three times. His first wife Mozzelle Trantham preceded him in death. Out of this marriage came four sons. Cleo Maurice Trantham Jr. (deceased), Carl Trantham of Austin, Thomas Trantham and wife Nelwyn of Webberville and Richard Trantham and wife Debra of Stanton. There are seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Maurice’s second wife Nell Trantham who preceded him in death came with a daughter that was later adopted, Jeri Duncan and husband Skipper of San Angelo. There are two grandsons and three great grandchildren from this marriage.

Maurice’s third wife was Billye Lou (BJ) Trantham. This marriage came with a stepson Rick Powell of Rockport. There are five step grandchildren and twelve step great grandchildren.
Maurice had four brothers and four sisters that preceded him in death. Maurice is also survived by one brother Carl Trantham and wife Willie of San Angelo and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Maurice served in the US Navy during World War II. He had his first career as a control tower operator with the FAA in Fort Worth and Austin. After retiring from the FAA, he pursued a profession of selling automobiles in San Angelo. He later moved back to Austin to begin his career of ranching. He ranched for a few years in the Austin and Johnson City area before moving back to West Texas. He ranched at Big Lake, San Angelo, Arden and Kerrville before finally retiring to a life of travel with BJ. They made their headquarters in San Angelo and attended church at the Water Valley Baptist Church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the folks of The Springs in San Angelo and GENTIVA Hospice. Their help and assistance with Maurice was second to none.

There will be a graveside service for Maurice at the Mertzon Cemetery February 14, 2014 at 3:00 PM. Services will be performed by Rick D. Green of the Water Valley Baptist Church. Rick Green visited the Trantham’s every week after they were no longer able to attend services. Viewing can be done at the Robert Massie Funeral Home in San Angelo. In lieu of flowers the family asked that you send a donation to the Water Valley Baptist Church, GENTIVA Hospice or your favorite charity.

Beatrice G. Rivas, 88, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in a local care center.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am Friday, February 13, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Emilio Sosa officiating. Burial will follow Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Assumption Chapel Mausoleum and Cemetery. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Beatrice was born November 13, 1926 in to Fernando and Dorothea (Perez) Guerra in Granger, Texas. She worked as a housekeeper for local care centers. On February 13, 1945 she married Saragosa Rivas in Lampasas, Texas. Saragosa and Beatrice both lived in San Angelo, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Carlos Martinez, Robert Martinez, Jerry Hinojosa, Chris Hinojosa, Bobby Hinojosa, and Charlie Soto.

She was preceded in death by her, parents; husband; son, Richard Rivas; sister, Tomasa Moreno; brothers, Carlos Guerra; Frank Guerra; Domingo Guerra; Julio Guerra; and a son-in-law, Santiago Gonzales.

Beatrice is survived by three daughters, Margie Arnold and her husband Carl; Noelia Martinez; and Yolanda Gonzales all of San Angelo; two sons, Rene Rivas and his wife Mary of Lovington, New Mexico; Norberto and his wife Irma of Austin; two brothers, Ramiro Guerra and Maugro Guerra and his wife Lola; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Bruce Edward Clark was welcomed into the arms of God on February 9, 2015.
Bruce was born on June 25, 1930 to William Edward and Alma Pearl Clark in Abilene, Texas and grew up in the Iberis community south of Abilene with his younger brother, Charles Lee Clark. Bruce attended Wylie schools, after which his family moved into Abilene. 
He attended the University of Texas at Arlington and served in the U.S. Air Force. 
On April 30, 1960, Bruce married Sue Carol Armstrong in Abilene at Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church. Bruce worked for Abilene Builders Supply and WTU for many years. They lived in Abilene with their two sons, Mark Edward Clark, and Jon Nathan Clark until January, 1976 when Bruce accepted a job with Angelo Refrigeration and Restaurant Supply as a Equipment Design Consultant. He retired in 1997.
Bruce enjoyed spending time with his family. He coached both sons in baseball and loved attending many music and sports events to cheer on his grandchildren. He was a 62-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Bruce sang in many quartets – his favorite was with his two sons in “Jubilee”. He served his favorite hobby in many areas – in Abilene as Director of the Memory Men Chorus and in San Angelo with the Twin Mountain Tonesmen chorus, and was honored with numerous local, regional, and national awards. Bruce enjoyed attending Central High School football games and had occupied the same seats with his family for almost 30 years. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in San Angelo where he sang in the choir. 
Bruce was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Sue Clark, parents, William “Ed” and Alma Clark, and sisters-in-law, Molly Jenkins and Laverne Clark. He is survived by his brother, Charles Lee Clark, and niece Kim of Abilene; sons, Mark Edward Clark and wife Karen, and Jon Nathan Clark and wife, Libby; grandchildren Ryan Clark, Cameron Clark, Kelly Cooper, Cory Cooper, and Katie Cooper; and great-grandchildren Cooper Santiago, Christian Santiago, and Tatum Ramirez, all of San Angelo; and countless friends.
Graveside service will be held at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 10 am with Pastor Sam Hunnicutt officiating. Family visitation will be Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 5 pm-7 pm at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church Sanctuary Choir or West Texas Rehabilitation Center.
Dad, we are sure you have already formed a quartet in heaven. We will miss your talented bass voice and loving companionship, but this not the end. For you it is a new beginning. We love you and will look forward to seeing you and singing with you again

Dr. Dwain Freeman Dodson died peacefully on February 8, 2015 at the age of 86 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in San Angelo, to Floyd C. and Lera Johnson Dodson on December 13, 1928, where he lived his entire life. He became a Christian at the age of 10 and considered this to be the most important event of his life.
Dwain graduated from San Angelo High School in 1946. He earned nine letters in three sports and participated on the state championship football team in 1943. He continued to be an avid sports fan all his life. Dwain also earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He received a scholarship to play football at the University of Texas, but soon decided to focus on pre-medical classes. He attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston specializing in Pediatrics. He married his childhood sweetheart, Elsie Ann Gayer, on January 28, 1951. They returned to San Angelo in 1958 where they raised their four children. Dwain practiced Pediatrics here in San Angelo for the next 40 years. He truly loved his patients and parents, and they loved him. After retiring, there were numerous times when he would meet a parent or patient at many different places, and they would greet him with outstretched arms to give him a hug and tell him how much he was appreciated.

Dwain served in numerous children's clinics. In 1962, he was chosen as one of the five Outstanding Young Texans by the Texas Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was noted for his support of youth activities and his work at San Angelo's handicapped children's treatment center. While raising his family here, Dwain enjoyed many activities with them. His favorite activity may have been coaching football to his own boys on the neighborhood teams. The family enjoyed frequent trips to the Paint Rock farm on the Concho River and treasured their summers at their "cozy cabin" in Lake City, Colorado.
Dwain was a devoted disciple of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a long time deacon and taught young adults in Sunday School. He and Elsie were instrumental in starting Southland Baptist in 1978 with Martus Miley as its first pastor. Dwain was also passionately involved in the Stephen Ministry, being commissioned to this ministry in 2004.

After the death of Elsie, Dwain married a family friend, Sybil Brown Sanderford, also widowed, of San Angelo. They were married on Christmas Day, December 25, 1989. Dwain and Sybil were blessed with 25 years together enjoying family, friends, church and travel.
Dwain was a devoted husband, beloved dad, proud granddad/papaw and great-granddad, as well as a faithful friend. He was a man of deep faith and integrity. It could be said of him, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" (Matthew 25:21 NIV)
Dwain was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elsie Dodson in 1987; and sister, Carolyn Keeble in 1975.

Dwain is survived by his loving wife, Sybil Brown Sanderford Dodson; children, Dwain (Chip) Dodson and wife Susan, David Dodson and wife Debbie, Ann Dodson Phillips and husband Randy, Gay Dodson Sanderford and husband Kelly Sanderford (Sybil's son) and, Max Sanderford (Sybil's son) and wife Leah; grandchildren Steven Dodson and wife Casee, Jenny Dodson, Brittany Sanderford, Jared Sanderford and wife Kenzie, Ben Sanderford, Rachel Phillips, Ruth Phillips, Sarah Phillips and Miriam Phillips, Brooke Sanderford and Bailey Sanderford; great granddaughter Everly Dodson; and his brother, Floyd Dodson and wife Billie; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the members of Southland Baptist Church, the Stephen Ministry, and numerous others for your prayers, love and support over the years, and especially during this difficult time.
