Barbara Scranton

Barbara Gale Scranton, 75, gained her angel wings Saturday, February 25, 2024, in San Angelo.

Barbara was born December 12, 1948 in Atascadero, California to Robert "Bob" and Magdalen "Mickey" Fischer Harris. Barbara was the second of six children.

Barbara married her high school sweetheart Omer Lee Binion, JR. "Junior" the year she graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1967. Junior was in the Air Force and they lived many places in Texas. After Junior was out of the service he was a jet mechanic and that job took them many places including Arizona, Connecticut and New Jersey. Barbara and Junior finally settled back in San Angelo.

Barbara and Junior were the proud Parents of two sons, Brandall Binion and Brian Binion. Her boys were her pride and joy.

Barbara married Patrick Scranton in 1988 in San Angelo and acquired a new son in this marriage, Patrick Lange. Barbara and Pat retired in Winters until Pat's death and then Barbara moved back to San Angelo.

Barbara was a talented artist who loved to paint and sew. She painted gourds for many years and sold them at craft shows around Texas. She also painted portraits for her pleasure as well as painting them for Wallace Photo Lab. She worked at Ethicon and worked at several restaurants as a book keeper and Manager for many of them.

Barbara bowled for many years on a team with her Mother and sisters and loved traveling to the State Tournaments together. She also played softball on a team made up of sisters, nieces and cousins with little brother as Coach. Barbara loved music and loved to dance. She also loved to play board games with her grandchildren and her weekly Yahtzee games with sister Patti.

Barbara is survived by her two sons, Brandall Binion and wife Amber, and their children, Luc, Karah, and Sophie of Garland. Brian Binion and wife Trish of Georgetown, and their children, Amanda Perez and husband Vincent, and their children, Luca and Jordan Perez, Morgan Brizendine and husband Layne, and their children, Braxton and Kayson Brizendine, Patrick Lange and wife Courtney of Miles, and their children, Wyatt, Tycie and Kyla Lange. She also leaves behind her constant companion and travel buddy, her rescue dog, her much loved Toby. Barbara is also survived by her remaining siblings, Kay Jurecek and husband Dennis of Breckinridge, Patti Harris, Robert Harris and wife Kathleen of San Angelo and a sister in law, Lynn Marie of Virginia. Aunt "Babo" as she was affectionally called leaves behind many nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Mickey Harris; husbands, Omer Lee Binion "Junior", Pat Scranton "Scrappy"; sisters, Beth Tucker and her husband Larry Tucker, and a sister, Debbie Sellers.

Barbara believed in God and family first, to live and let live, to mind your own business and to always help someone when you can.

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel, 402 Rio Concho Drive, San Angelo, Texas 76903. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Myrl Wilde

Myrl Wilde passed away March 2, 2024. He was born in San Angelo, TX on September 7, 1938, to Alois and Josephine Wilde. Myrl grew up in Vancourt, TX, and attended school in Eola and in Wall. He graduated from Wall high School in 1957 and entered San Angelo Junior college (SAC) in the fall of 1957. He played basketball at SAC under the coaching of Phil George. After two years at SAC, Myrl attended Sul Ross University where he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

He began his teaching career in 1962 at Wall Independent School District. In 1964, he became the high school principal at Wall. He held this position until 1972 when he resigned to begin farming full time in the Wall community. Myrl served for nine years on the ASC committee.

Myrl married Judy Donham on August 10, 1963, in San Angelo, TX. They resided in Vancourt, Wall, and San Angelo during their 60 years of marriage. She and their son, Johnny, survive him.

Other survivors include his sister-in-law, Mary Wilde of Del Rio, TX, and sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Billy Schwertner of Miles, TX, and sister, Janell Kothmann of Menard, TX. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alton “Rusty” Wilde.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 9:00am at St. Ambrose Parish Hall in Wall. Graveside service will follow at 11:00am at Fairmount Cemetery.

Andrew Lloyd Allen

Andy Allen 79, of Christoval, Texas passed away peacefully February 16th, 2024 at the ranch he loved so much. He was born March 4th, 1944 in San Angelo, Texas and adopted at 3 days old by Herman L. Allen and Elvira Bowers-Allen.

He grew up in Menard, Texas. He married Ann Hedden-Allen of Wall and they were married 56 years.

Andy was one-of-a-kind, a rough and tough cowboy who loved living on the ranch, hunting, arrowhead collecting, drag racing street rods in his younger days, western movies, classic country music and several other hobbies. He spoke fluent Spanish and never forgot a number.

Andy was well known everywhere and had many friends. He had a heart of gold and helped anyone who needed anything.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Ann, daughter Crystal (Robert) Claunch of Bronte, son Brady Allen of Christoval, grandsons Corey Jernigan of Christoval, and Collin (Megan) and great granddaughter Leighton Jernigan of Bronte, and granddaughter Zoie Allen of San Angelo.

A private ceremony was held at the ranch with family and friends where he was laid to rest under his favorite tree beside his horse Red and his dog Texas. Everything was exactly as he wanted it. 

He will be missed and never forgotten by his family and everyone who knew him.

Charles Clarence Ellichman, age 70, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. 

An open visitation for Charles will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard Avenue, San Angelo, Texas. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home.

Robert "Bob" Allan Weintraub

Robert "Bob" Allan Weintraub, aged 81, peacefully passed away on February 28, 2024, in San Angelo, TX. Born on July 29, 1942, in Providence, RI, he was the cherished child of Joseph and Lillian Weintraub. Bob completed his high school education at Cranston High School East in Providence, RI, before pursuing an associate degree in general studies. Serving his country with pride, he dedicated two years to the United States Army.

Relocating to San Angelo, TX, Bob embarked on a fulfilling journey. He contributed his time to Shakey's Pizza from 1971 to 1996, and later became a part of HEB, where he served for 28 years until 2023.

Bob found joy in simple pleasures, partaking in hobbies such as shooting guns, savoring action-packed movies, and exploring his passion for history. With a contagious sense of humor, he brightened the lives of those around him, always ready to share a joke and create fond memories.

Bob's legacy lives on through his loving adoptive family: Mary Necessary, Theresa and Ector Troncoso, Charlene and Herbert Torres, Cecil and Jackie Necessary, Micala and Alex Volk, along with their son Wyatt; Ector Jr.; Herbert Jr. and Angelina Torres, with their son Rio; Joseph and Laura Torres, with their children Andrew, Emma, and Lily; and Michelle and Brady Burdick, with their children Clay and Jake, Evan Troncoso, Lydia and Christopher Kelly, with their children, Aurora, Kairi, Trinity, and Everly.

In honoring Bob's memory, let us cherish the laughter he shared, the wisdom he imparted, and the love he generously bestowed upon us all.

Services to honor Bob's life will be held at a later date, to be determined.

Randy Roeder

Randy Roeder, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend, departed from this world on February 27, 2024, in San Angelo, TX, at the age of 48. He was born in San Angelo on May 12, 1975, to his loving parents, Donnie and Sarah Roeder, and shared his childhood with his brother Jason Roeder. Randy's journey began in Grape Creek, where he attended Junior High and Elementary before graduating from Water Valley High School. His pursuit of education led him to HVAC School in Sweetwater through TSTI, setting the foundation for a career he excelled in.

On July 12, 2003, Randy embraced a lifetime commitment with Rachel Boyd. Together, they were blessed with two remarkable daughters, Grace and Macy, who illuminated Randy's life with their boundless energy and accomplishments. Randy's devotion to his family was unwavering, evident in his active involvement in his daughters lives, whether it was coaching their softball teams since they were four or celebrating their achievements with uncontainable pride.

In his professional life, Randy consistently showed dedication and skill. After graduating from high school, he worked at Pepsi before spending a summer on a wheat harvest in the Midwest. Once he completed HVAC School, he joined Air Dynamics, where he began his career. Later, he spent over 20 years at Angelo State, excelling in HVAC maintenance.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Randy possessed a remarkable ability to uplift those around him. His genuine kindness and intuitive understanding of people's needs earned him numerous friendships wherever he went. An avid sports enthusiast, Randy's passion extended to all realms of athletics, with a special fondness for Longhorns Football. Randy also had a passion for hunting, he started hunting at just four years old, joining his dad, brother Jason, and cousin Tommy Smith in the woods. By the time he was twelve, he bagged a Boone and Crockett buck, showcasing his skill and passion for the sport.

Randy believed it was important for his family to be part of a church community. He was baptized in June 1975 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Eola, and confirmed in 1989 at Trinity Lutheran Church in San Angelo, where he still attended.

Randy's memory lives on in the hearts of his daughters, Grace and Macy; his parents, Donnie and Sarah Roeder; his brother, Jason Roeder, and wife Vanessa, along with their children, Freedom, Kaylee, Lueck, and Dusty; his special cousin, Tommy Smith, and wife BJ; his special aunt, Jeanie McKnight; his in-laws, Don and Linda Boyd; his brother-in-law, John, and Jullie Anne Boyd, along with their children, Emme, and Annie.

He is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Rachel Roeder, and his grandparents, Ernest and Tillie Roeder, and Joe and Bertha White.

A visitation will take place on Monday, March 4, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm, at Harper Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church, followed by burial at Eola Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Freedom Roeder, Lueck Roeder, Dusty Roeder, Dan Robertson, Galdino Pena, Greg Schkade, Brian Porter, and Paul Kalina. Honorary Pallbearers include Vance Millican, Buzz Dameron, Lance Clark, Shelley Crimm, Sherian Briley, and Tom Smith.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Randy's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever resonate within the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Marcus (Mark) Lee McClellan

Marcus (Mark) Lee McClellan, loved by many passed away at home surrounded by family. Mark went to be with the Lord at the age of 72, on February 27, 2024.

Mark was born to Robert (Bud) McClellan and Doris Sanders on January 25, 1952. Surviving Mark are his siblings, Judy Hartman and husband Stanley Hartman, brother Robert (Dale) McClellan and wife Penny McClellan. He is also survived by his wife of 47 years Alta Beam McClellan; two sons, Nathan McClellan and Johnathan McClellan and wife Shawna McClellan; grandchildren, Sterling Benson, Cody McClellan, Keith McClellan, Savannah McClellan, Jameson McClellan as well as several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Raised on a farm, he went to Angelo State University to gain a degree in Animal Science. Mark loved any activity in agriculture, especially working with animals.

Mark loved family gatherings and raising his 2 sons to become successful men. The greatest lesson he taught them was when you make a mistake, pick yourself up and try again.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws.

Mark’s kindness, love and generosity will remain in the hearts of all who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace with our Lord.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 1:00 PM at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Miles, TX. Interment to follow at Mullins Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Hamilton, Jerry Breeding, Brandon Burrage, Lynn Dye, Jordan Mach and Bo McClellan.

Mary Jean Lewis

Mary Jean Lewis, age 78 went to be with our good Lord on February 26, 2024, after fighting her battle with cancer. She was born on October 31, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas. Mary moved to San Angelo at the age of 5. She has resided in San Angelo, Texas since. Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents Forest and Willie B. Walker. All of her siblings, Arthur (Heavy) Walker, Oscar (Bubba Red) Walker, Stanyley Walker and Jerlean Walker.

She is survived by her son, Darrell Lewis, sister Ruth Lease, her best friend James Burke, granddaughter Kasi Lewis and great granddaughter Laila Sanders of Ballinger, TX. In addition to other family members and friends.

Mary Lewis was well loved by everyone, especially Wesley Trinity Church. Grandma will always be remembered. She has a beautiful spirit and soul.

Thank you to Shannon Medical Center, Regency House and Ballinger healthcare and rehab. Also, the family would like to give a big shoutout to James Burke! You handled my grandma like a G, knowing she a hot mess and I love you for that.

Grandma, Laila and I love you more, more and more. I know you will guide Laila bugg and I always from heaven above.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home from 11:00am to 1:00 PM. Graveside services will follow at Fairmount Cemetery at 2:00pm.

Rebecca Ruth "Becky" Smith

Rebecca Ruth “Becky” Smith, 69, of San Angelo, formerly of Uvalde, died after a three-month battle with cancer on Feb. 26, 2024, with family members by her side, at the Park Plaza Nursing Home in San Angelo.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday March 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Harper’s Funeral Home in San Angelo. The Reverend Jay Clatworthy of Providence Baptist Church and the Reverend Bill Wright of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, each of San Angelo, will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Thursday March 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde. Reverend Jay Clatworthy will officiate.

Becky was born on April 11, 1954, in Uvalde, Texas. She was a 1972 graduate of Uvalde High School, after which she attended Power’s Modeling School in Fort Worth.

She pursued modeling but a long career with Bell Telephone - AT&T provided her means to retire, after which she moved back to Uvalde to be near her parents. After her daddy died, she and her mother moved to San Angelo to be near her brother. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was known at Emmanuel Episcopal Church where her mother attended.

She is survived by brother, Russell Smith and wife Linda, of San Angelo; nephew John Ryan Smith and wife Maritza, of San Angelo; niece Shannon Lee Smith Denson and husband, Isaac, of Whitewright; great nephews, Caleb Denson of Odessa, Joshua Denson of Seagoville, and Matthew Smith of San Angelo; and great niece, Madison Smith, of San Angelo; uncle, Elton Fewell and wife Daisy, of Austin; cousins Nancy Michael and companion, Julie Hendrickson, of Bemidji, Minnesota; Jill Ann Daggs and husband, Joe, of Natalia, and Jim Ray Smith and wife, Debbie, of Lytle.

Becky made a multitude of friends in her life but considered some as family; Mikki Detten of Tyler, a friend and “sister” for 56 years, and, Bonnie Kirby (husband Adrian), best friend for 46 years, and namesake Rebecca Kirby West (husband Michael and daughter Bella.)

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her puppy named Riley who walked the block with her for many years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Providence Baptist Church, c/o Youth Church Camp Fund, 810 Austin Street, San Angelo, Texas 76903; or the Kate Marmion Rides to Radiation Non-Profit, P.O. Box 900, Uvalde, Texas 78801.

Bertha Griffith

The youngest of six children, Bertha was born July 4, 1930, to Frank A. and Mary Jansa Brosh. Bertha was proud of her Czech heritage and grew up on a farm near Veribest, gaining a work ethic and determination that she carried throughout her life.

Bertha and R. D. Griffith were married in San Angelo on December 24, 1947 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family members. While their children were young, Bertha was a homemaker, sewing the girls’ clothes, actively involved in school activities and Lake View Baptist Church.

In 1966, the family moved to Grape Creek into a new home that R. D. built himself. Bertha worked several places including the Levi Strauss factory, Carlsbad State School, Angelo Community Hospital and Meadowcreek Nursing Home.

She and R. D. enjoyed arts and crafts projects they created together, R. D. doing the carpentry work and Bertha completing them with her artistic painting. She took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens, canning the produce for family meals and sharing. For decades Bertha was an avid bowler, still participating in leagues and tournaments in her senior years. Bertha and R. D. were enthusiastic outdoorsmen, enjoying a lifetime together of fishing and hunting with bow and rifle.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, R. D.; a baby daughter, Judy Kay; daughter, Debbie Wall and son-in-law Woody Wall. Bertha is survived by daughter, Wanda Blackburn, of Junction; three grandchildren: Randy Bitner of Grape Creek; Shelley Flanary of New Braunfels and Dr. Shawna Wall and husband Eric Hutchinson of San Antonio; five great-grandchildren: Tyler Griffin (Talor) of Andrews AFB; Dyllon Bitner of San Angelo and Alexa, Logan and Micah Hutchinson.
