The youngest of six children, Bertha was born July 4, 1930, to Frank A. and Mary Jansa Brosh. Bertha was proud of her Czech heritage and grew up on a farm near Veribest, gaining a work ethic and determination that she carried throughout her life.
Bertha and R. D. Griffith were married in San Angelo on December 24, 1947 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family members. While their children were young, Bertha was a homemaker, sewing the girls’ clothes, actively involved in school activities and Lake View Baptist Church.
In 1966, the family moved to Grape Creek into a new home that R. D. built himself. Bertha worked several places including the Levi Strauss factory, Carlsbad State School, Angelo Community Hospital and Meadowcreek Nursing Home.
She and R. D. enjoyed arts and crafts projects they created together, R. D. doing the carpentry work and Bertha completing them with her artistic painting. She took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens, canning the produce for family meals and sharing. For decades Bertha was an avid bowler, still participating in leagues and tournaments in her senior years. Bertha and R. D. were enthusiastic outdoorsmen, enjoying a lifetime together of fishing and hunting with bow and rifle.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, R. D.; a baby daughter, Judy Kay; daughter, Debbie Wall and son-in-law Woody Wall.
