Mickey

07/08/2023 - 11:33 , by TKing09

Today, we come together to celebrate the extraordinary life of William Michael Jones, known and loved by all as Mickey. Though his passing has left a void in our hearts, we find comfort in the memories we hold dear and the legacy he leaves behind.

Mickey's journey began on November 27th, 1957, in Enid, Oklahoma, and took him across various states and even to Iran and Germany during his childhood. As he traveled and explored new places, Mickey's infectious laughter and playful spirit left an indelible mark on those around him. From donning a coonskin cap and carrying a fishing pole or BB gun, to wearing out countless pairs of boots, Mickey embodied the essence of an adventurous and free-spirited soul.

Throughout his life, Mickey held many roles, but perhaps the one closest to his heart was that of a devoted family man. He cherished his wife, Brenda, and their three children, Clayton, Stephanie, and Chris, and found immeasurable joy in the presence of his eight grandchildren. Mickey and Brenda shared a love for the Texas Rangers, and together they made lasting memories cheering on their favorite team. But it was in their many adventures, and traveling with their grandkids, that their bonds grew stronger. From skiing in the mountains of Colorado to hiking in the hills of Utah, Mickey embraced the spirit of exploration and instilled in his family a love for the great outdoors and the joy of experiencing new places together.

Professionally, Mickey dedicated himself to the service of others. In 1984, he embarked on a career with the San Angelo Police Department, starting as a rookie and swiftly rising through the ranks. With each promotion, Mickey demonstrated his unwavering commitment and expertise, eventually retiring in 2007 as a highly esteemed SWAT Commander. His dedication to justice and the safety of his community earned him the distinction of being named Supervisor of the Year in the same year.

Though retirement beckoned, Mickey's passion for serving others persisted. He took on the role of Cold Case Detective for the SAPD, determined to find justice for those whose cases remained unresolved. Later, he transitioned into the oil field, working for Chalk Mountain Services before establishing his own business and continued to provide valuable services to Apache Corp. until his untimely passing.

Mickey's infectious sense of humor and storytelling ability endeared him to all. His facial expressions and the jokes he shared will forever be etched in our memories. He had a remarkable talent for brightening any room and bringing smiles to the faces of those around him. His genuine laughter and impersonations were gifts he generously shared with family, friends, and associates.

Today, as we say goodbye to our beloved Mickey, we take solace in the love he shared and the laughter he brought into our lives. We honor his memory by carrying forward his spirit of adventure, his dedication to family, and his unwavering commitment to service. Mickey's legacy will forever remain alive through his lovely wife Brenda, his children, grandchildren, sister, brother, nieces, nephews, and countless friends and associates whose lives he has undoubtedly touched.

Mickey, you will be dearly missed. May your soul find eternal peace, and may we continue to find comfort in the memories and joy you brought to our lives.

In later years, Helen enjoyed grandkids and great grandkids. MawMaw took her grandchildren on several one-on-one trips to many locations. She was a very generous grandmother.

Spending a number of months at the ranch during COVID, she fed her sheep and helped feed the horses nightly. This also provided a great time to give candy to grandkids and grand dogs.
