Maria M. Martinez

Maria Luisa Martinez, 82, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord, July 30, 2023, in San Angelo surrounded by her loving family.

Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Liturgy of the word will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martinez was born March 25, 1941 to Pascual and Elania Martinez. Mary Lou was raised in Midland and attended Midland High School. Mary Lou has been a resident of San Angelo since 1960. She was a vocational registered nurse. Mary Lou worked for San Angelo Health Department and the San Angelo State Supported Living Center. Mary Lou was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved sewing, cooking cakes, doing crafts, and spending time with family.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Martinez Arocha of San Angelo and Ramon Arocha of Dallas; a daughter, Edna Martinez Ybarra and husband Robert of San Angelo; two brothers, Eddie Martinez of Midland, and Gilbert Martinez and wife Estella of Alabama; a sister, Manuela Lopez of Midland; seven grandchildren, Monica, Bobby, Jr., Julian, Elania, Robert, Priscilla, and Angelica; and seven great grandchildren.

The family would like to express the thanks to the staff of Park Plaza Nursing Center and of Gentiva Hospice of San Angelo for there loving care and support.

Frieda Nadine Yardley Hanusch Ingram

Frieda Naidine Yardley Hanusch Ingram passed away peacefully into the gates of heaven Friday, July 28th, 2023. Frieda was born May 6, 1936 in Menard County to Eli Freeman and Hattie May Yardley.

She attended school in Eldorado, Texas where she met and married Ray Hanusch on April 18, 1952. Ray and Frieda were married 51 years until his death in 2003.

After Ray’s passing, Frieda and her son Walter enjoyed many evenings out on the town dancing at The Coachman Club. This is where she found the second love of her life, Bill Ingram. The two were married July 5, 2008. They enjoyed traveling until his health decline and his passing in May 2011.

Frieda was an avid bowler for many years. She also loved spending her time volunteering at Community Hospital.

Ray and Frieda had three children all of whom were raised in Eldorado. Judy Pridemore and son-in-law Gary of Christoval, the late Walter Hanusch and daughter-in-law JoAnn of San Angelo, and Janette Doyle of Sulphur Springs.

Frieda is also survived by her most prized possessions, her six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. There would always be an argument as to who her favorite grandchild was. For anyone who knew Frieda knew that she loved her grandchildren all the same. Her grandkids include: Shane Pridemore and wife Janna of Junction, Ray Hanusch of San Angelo, Kristy Keller and husband Neal of Liberty Hill, April Dabbs and husband Wiley of Marathon, Michael Armentrout and wife Melissa of Coppell, and Ryan Doyle of Carrollton.

Frieda is also survived by one sister-in-law, Laverne Crump, of Sulphur Springs along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her brother, two sisters and her beloved son.

A very warm and loving thanks go to her caregivers, especially in her final weeks, Stephanie Melendez and Shelly Leschuga. Also, thanks goes to Gentiva Hospice care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the West Texas Boys Ranch in her honor.

Frieda will be available for viewing from 12:00 PM to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Harper Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be at 10:00am Wednesday, August 2nd at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo Texas.

Jim Bob McAda

Jim Bob McAda, 73, of San Angelo passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at home.

There will be no formal services at this time per Jim's request. Burial will be in Wall Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. McAda was born on August 12, 1949 to Bill and Pirla Poss McAda. He married Dixie McAda in 1967 and they enjoyed 56 years together. Jim served in the US Army for 6 years after high school. He was a successful Master Plumber in the San Angelo area. Jim Bob trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and today that hope is fulfilled. He was dearly loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dixie; his three children, Timothy McAda and wife Beth of San Angelo, Todd McAda and wife Cherese of South Carolina, and Tarala Foley and husband Clarence of San Angelo; his mother, Pirla Poss McAda of San Angelo; two brothers, Brent McAda and Kerry Mc Ada and wife Diane both of San Angelo; five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to Dr. Carl Anderton for his care for Jim Bob all these years.

Debra Sanchez Rubio

Debra “Tita” Sanchez Rubio, age 56, peacefully entered into eternal life on July 24, 2023 in Stephenville, Tx. Debra was born in Monahans, Texas to Jesus and Rosa Rubio on December 28, 1966. She attended school in Monahans and later moved to San Angelo where she raised her three daughters while working at San Jacinto Elementary.

Debra is proceded in death by her parents Jesus and Rosa Rubio, her step-mother Socorro “Nena”Rubio, her brothers José Manuel Rubio and Jesus Rubio Jr.

Debra’s love language was giving to others. She was known for her baking and her kind heart. She opened her home and heart to anyone in need. Tita would give you her last dollar and the shirt off her back if you needed it. Tita was great at crafting. Every craft that she made was special and very personal for the recipients of the gift.

Survivors include her three daughters: Stephanie Perez and Santiago Perez, Anastacia “Ana” and husband David Morales, and Bridget Guevara. Debra had eight grandchildren: Alyssa Lopez and Jorge Garcia, Andrea Lopez, Marcelena Perez, Arianna Perez, Jeremy Guevara, Aubriana Morales, McKenzie Guevara, and Mya Morales, and one great-grandchild, Jocelyn Garcia. She is also survived by her siblings Diana “Nana” and husband Domingo Gonzales, Doris, Delma, Juan, and Maria. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Visitation and Rosary will be held on July 27,2023, at 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Harper Funeral Home. 

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:30 am at St. Joseph's catholic church in San Angelo TX.

Rob Arthur Strakos

STRAKOS, Rob Arthur, a resident of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 16 ,2023 at the age of 73.

 

Rob was born November 28, 1949. He was a graduate of San Angelo Central High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Tampa, Florida, Vietnam, San Antonio, Texas, Azores Portugal, San Bernardino, California, Turkey and San Angelo, Texas. Upon leaving the service he was employed by Angelo Water Service in San Angelo until his retirement.

Rob loved to fish, watch NASCAR, and spending time with his pets. He will be missed.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents Dyones Strakos and Gloria Strakos (Trojak) and his son Rodney Strakos. He is survived by his wife, Bridgett Strakos; son Dany M. Strakos (Charlotte) daughter in law Annie Strakos Brother Dany L Strakos (Shirley), Sisters Diane Fussell (Jim) Sylvia Andes (Herb) Step Son Travis (Gene) King, Step Daughter Mona Lesa Wheeler (Michael), Sisters in Law Brenda Bosquez (Marion), Victoria Green (Ray) Grandchildren Robby Strakos and Ranger Strakos, Brendan Strakos, April Keebler, Justin Keebler, Dallas and Ash Baughn, Nathaniel Lohamn, Zackary Cook, Sofia and Jonathan and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends, Friday, August 4, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Fellowship Church. The memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ron Miller officiating at the same location. A private committal service will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to, Concho Valley PAWS (cvpaws.org/give), and Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas (cacgreaterwtx.org) or the Veterans organization of your choice.

Roger McMullin

Roger McMullin, 57, of San Angelo passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023.

No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. McMullin was born on October 18, 1965 in San Marcos to James Elliot and Betty Doreen McDowell McMullin. He married Sandra Bartlett on April 21, 1995 in San Angelo, having been together since 1984. She passed away earlier this year. He was a resident of San Angelo for most of his life.

He is survived by two daughters, Natalie Bartlett of San Angelo, and Melissa Schmidt and husband Conrad of Plano; two sons, Rogers McMullin, Jr., and J.D. McMullin both of San Angelo; and 12 grandchildren.

Marilyn Harris

Marilyn Harris passed away on July 24, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in East St. Louis, II, on November 17, 1938 to Elsie Martin and John Schwartz.

The family later moved to San Angelo where she attended local schools and graduated from San Angelo College where she earned Phi Beta Kappa honors and was a member of the Ramettes drill team.

She retired from the Texas Work Force Commission after 30 years as a claims supervisor. During that time she served in various officer positions on the TWC Credit Union and also for the PEO.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Arthur "Rod" Harris , son Randy Harris (Becky Hudman), daughter Debbie and husband David Wood, sisters Joanie Leaver and Cathy Schwartz, grandsons Paul Harris, Dillon Wood, Dalton Wood and numerous great grand children, nieces, nephews and cousins around the country. She was preceded in death by son Mike Harris.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband and they visited Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Austria, France, Germany, Lichtenstein, Switzerland and every state except Alaska. Her favorite place to visit, except for relatives, was Las Vegas where she enjoyed sight seeing, shows, shopping, dining and participating in Las Vegas' main attraction.

She and her husband were life time members of Holy Angels Church.

The family wishes to thank everybody for their expressions of sympathy and comfort during this time. There will be a private grave side ceremony for the internment of her ashes.

The family suggests any memorials be made to Holy Angels Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

William "Bill" Joseph Connery, II

William “Bill” Joseph Connery, aged 78, peacefully passed away following a prolonged illness. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, but later his family relocated to Texas. In 1963, he proudly graduated from Midland High School. Bill's sense of duty led him to join the army, where he was selected for officer candidate school. After an honorable discharge, he ventured into the world of finance, becoming a successful stockbroker and pursuing various entrepreneurial endeavors.

Beyond his professional achievements, William was a devoted and affectionate grandfather, uncle, and brother. His caring nature and unwavering commitment to family endeared him to all who knew him.

Preceding Bill in death are his parents, Dr. David Bradford Connery and Mother Marion Tweed, as well as his two brothers, David Connery and Robert Tweed.

Mr. Connery is survived by his two daughters, Stacy Connery and Kim Connery, both residing in Midland, TX, along with his brothers Brad Connery of Midland, TX, and Bruce Connery of Houston, TX., two grandchildren Alexis Merrick of Midland, TX, and Hayden Carroll of Dallas, TX.

Graveside services have been scheduled for 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, TX.

May the cherished memories of William Joseph Connery bring comfort to his loved ones during this challenging time.

Rudolph "Rudy" F. Luna

Reverend Rudolph Flores Luna, affectionately known as “Pastor Rudy,” 87, of San Angelo went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in San Angelo.

Rudy was born February 11, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas to Cecilio and Rebeca Flores Luna. He attended South Plains Junior College, Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie and LABI. Rudy met and later married the love of his life Benina Almaras on July 10, 1956, and they shared 63 beautiful years together and raised 5 children. Rudy was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather who devoted his life to his ministry and his family. He was a student of the Word with a passion in mentoring others to follow God’s heart and become pastors themselves. He loved reading the Bible and educating himself on God’s Holy Word, preaching and teaching the word of God and praying and spending time with God. Pastor Rudy achieved over 50 years in the ministry. He established a night Bible School called the Texoma Bible School for the section in Wichita Falls and was elected Secretary Treasurer for the Lubbock Section and Presbyter for 38 years. He also spent 2 years as Assistant Superintendent for the West Texas Regional Conference. He took pride and joy in helping the city and community as a pastor and chaplain preaching in missions and working with law enforcement.

Over the course of his career, he also used the radio station as a ministry to reach out to the lost (Mensaje de Vida.) In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and being “Mr. Handyman.” He will always be remembered for his integrity, determination in the ministry, and passion for God. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Cecil and Rebeca Flores, his wife Benina Almares Luna, his son-in-law, Juan Charles and his brothers, Ruben Luna, Gilbert Luna and Roy Lee Luna. He is survived by his children, Geneva Charles, Abel and Darlene Luna, Rebecca and Larry Jacques, Samuel and Angelica Luna and Lydia and Fernando Lopez; 26 Grandchildren; 21 Great-Grandchildren; 12 Great-great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Irene and Paul Pecina, Marcie and John Arthur, David and Belen Luna, Cecilio Luna, Jr., Adam and Shelly Luna and Yolanda Luna.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Friday, July 28, 2023, at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Harper Funeral Home Chapel. The burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers for the service will be Johnny Charles, Julian Charles, Joshua Charles, Johnathan Luna, Joshua Luna, Joseph Jacques, Jeremy Jacques, Michael Chapa and Julian Garcia. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to Dr. Harrington and his staff, Solarice Hospice, and Harper Funeral Home and staff for all of the loving care given to Rudy. Virginia Castleberry Smith

Virginia Castleberry Smith, 78, of San Angelo passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

Viewing will be from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Robert Massie Funeral Home with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Liturgy of the word will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Burial will follow in Resthaven Cemetery in Menard under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith was born on June 25, 1945 in Menard to Castilo and Soledad DeAnda Gutierrez. Virginia worked at Navajo's Restaurant for 34 years and at the nursing home in Menard. She moved to San Angelo and opened Virgie's Restaurant for 3 years. Virginia was a home health worker in the Concho Valley, a housekeeper at Shannon Medical Center, and worked in the behavioral unit at San Angelo State School, retiring in the early 2000s. She was a hard worker, honest and not afraid to give you, her opinion. She loved gambling at casinos and playing Bingo. Virginia spent a lot of time at the ranch raising Boer goats and cattle. She was the "Rock" of her family and helped raise her granddaughter, Jessica. Virginia was married to Kenneth Castleberry who preceded her in death in 1992. She loved her best friend, very favorite cousin who she loved like a sister, Delia Messer Hernandez and her last living aunt, Pauline Castillo.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Angel Lynn Gutierrez; and brother, Roy Gutierrez.

She is survived by three children, Mary Kay Lynn Gutierrez of San Angelo, Daniel Anthony Gutierrez and Rose Mary of Llano, and Andrew A. Escamilla and partner Chris of Austin; three siblings, Ray Gutierrez and wife Betty of Menard, Lydia Munoz and husband Santos of Brady, and Roger Gutierrez and wife Sylvia of San Angelo; three grandchildren, Jessica Ellis and husband Jordan of San Angelo, Nicole Gutierrez of Austin, and Nathaniel Gutierrez of Hamilton; and four great-grandchildren, Arianna Ellis, Ryan Ellis, Riata Gutierrez, and Aubrey Gutierrez.

The family would like to thank her good neighbors for watching out for her and Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
