Joan Motl Tucker Meyer

Joan Marie Motl Tucker Meyer, 73, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away August 12, 2016. Joan was born in San Angelo, Texas, on May 8, 1943, to Oscar A. Motl, and Velah C. Patton Motl.

She grew up in the Tankersley Community, southwest of San Angelo, on the Twin Mountain Farm. She credited her spirited personality to the freedom she experienced on the farm and her Czechoslovakian heritage. The family moved into San Angelo in 1960, when she was 17. She married Kenneth Tucker on March 31, 1961, having graduated from San Angelo Central High School that same year. Kenneth and Joan built an exciting life in the oil and gas business. They had two children, Kevin K. Tucker, and Jason W.A. Tucker.

Joan's home was always warm and inviting to her many friends and her beloved cats. Her friends valued her tenacity, intelligence, and loyalty, as well as her unending sense of humor.

Joan was extremely creative and was interested in the arts all her life. She was a talented artist who expressed herself through photography, drawing, painting, and needlepoint, winning several awards at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. Her work was published in several reputable magazines. She enjoyed playing bridge.

Joan married Richard E. Meyer, of San Antonio, Texas, on June 28, 2003. Together they enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Joan loved Richard and their time spent together. She embraced the larger family, considering Richard's two son's and their families as her own. She deeply enjoyed spending time with them.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Velah Motl, her son, Kevin, and her first husband, Kenneth.

Joan is survived by her husband, Richard E. Meyer, as well as her son, Jason W.A. Tucker, his wife, Wendy Tucker, and granddaughter, Audrey, of Fairfax, CA; Richard's sons, Doug Meyer, his wife, Carol, and their children Arlene, Mason and his wife Tam, Garret and his wife Jordan, and William, along with their five great-grandchildren; Kevin Meyer, his wife, Shanna, and their two children Brooke and Nicole; her sister, Christine Y. Rushing, and her husband, Larry D. Rushing, of Burnet, Texas.

A time of visitation will be held at Johnsonson's Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, with burial at Fairmount Cemetery immediately following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home.

Jeanette McNeely Townsend

Jeanette McNeely Townsend passed away on August 11, 2016 at the age of 96. She is survived by a son Randel Townsend and his wife Beth of San Angelo; a daughter Jan Smith and her husband Charles of San Angelo; a brother Ted McNeely and his wife Justine of Melvin; 2 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home of San Angelo with the burial at Fairmount Cemetery immediately following. Jeanette requested that instead of flowers donations be made to the school at Southgate Church of Christ.

James Richard Stephens

James Richard Stephens, 90, of San Angelo, TX passed away August 7, 2016. He was born in Gracemont Oklahoma on August 15, 1925 to John R. Stephens and Erma Mae Rodgers –Stephens. James served in the United States Navy as a Seaman First class during World War II. He was stationed in Guam. He also served on the U.S.S. Price Williams and the U.S.S. Langley. He also served on the Naval Base in Philadelphia, PA. He was married to Margaret Elizabeth Grizzle on January 26, 1946. James worked as the Central Office Technician for GTE. He was a Charter member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church and had a passion for family, church, camping and wood working. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beautiful wife Margaret Elizabeth, his sisters Betty Strong and Emily Graves, and brothers Raymond Stephens and Bob Stephens. He is survived by his children, Sue Ingle, John Stephens, and Margie Stovall. He also leaves to cherish his memories his grandchildren, Donnie Ingle, David Ingle, Darla Lowry, Jes Stephens, Fethr Stephens, Sue Elizabeth Weinkauf, Wendy Bennett and a brother, Bill Stephens. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Glen Meadows Baptist Church with burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Mr. Stephens will lie in repose for public viewing on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Johnson's Funeral Home from noon until close. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home.

Victor E. Schulze, Jr., M.D.

He was born in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas to Victor E. Schulze, M.D. and Esther Golden Schulze on April 1, 1929. After moving to El Campo, Texas, back to Galveston, then to Rochester, Minnesota, and Shiner, Texas, the family settled in San Angelo, Texas in 1934 where the deceased grew up and attended public schools, first Santa Rita and later Glenmore Elementary Schools. He attended San Angelo High School and was a member of the 1943 State Championship Bobcat football team. Hegraduated from Kentucky Military Institute where he was a senior class officer and a letterman on the football, track, and tennis teams. He entered The University of Texas in 1946 where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, graduating in 1950. He entered The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston that year and graduated with an M.D. degree in 1954. He did a Straight Medicine internship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia following which he entered the United States Air Force where he was a Flight Surgeon for eight years, one year of which was spent at the Harvard School of Public Health earning a Master of Industrial Health degree. After his Air Force service, he returned to Atlanta to do a residency in Internal Medicine and a Cardiology Fellowship at Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory University Hospital, following which he moved to San Angelo and entered into practice of Internal Medicine and Cardiology with his father and later with Dr. Preston Darby. While in San Angelo he was Chief of Staff at the Shannon Hospital and President of the Tom Green County Medical Society for a year as well as a Delegate to the Texas Medical Association. He also served on the Board of Trustees of St. Johns Hospital from 1973-1976 and the San Angelo School Board for seven years. In 1976 he left private practice to become Associate Professor of Medicine at Texas Tech University College of Medicine in Lubbock. After a year he moved to Temple, Texas where he joined the staff of the Veterans Administration Hospital and the faculty at the new Texas A & M University College of Medicine. He was in charge of the Internal Medicine teaching service at the V.A. and won several teaching awards before his retirement in 1993. Dr. Schulze was a two-time recipient of the Association of Former Students of Texas A & M University Distinguished Teaching Award. At that time, he was an Associate Chief of Staff for Education and acting Chief of the Medical Service at the V.A. and Professor of Medicine in the medical school. During his time in the Air Force and in practice and teaching he published articles in medical journals as well as a chapter on the Effects of Accelerative Forces in the Air Force Flight Surgeons’ Manual and a textbook on electrocardiography. He was made an alumni member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society by the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1987. He retired in 1993 and had lived in Temple since. He was certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (Aerospace Medicine), the American Board of Internal Medicine, and the Subspecialty Board in Cardiovascular Disease. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology as well as past president of the Texas Club of Internists, the Temple Library Board, and Emeritus Medicus (Temple retired physicians). He was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church and served as a lay Eucharist Minister.
On July 19, 1952 he married Peggy Louise Dowd at Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston, Texas and she remains his survivor. They have three children, Kim S. Davis, J.D., of Edmond, Oklahoma, Victor E. Schulze III, M.D. of San Angelo, Texas, and Jack Dowd Schulze of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one very loyal dog named Harper.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Saturday August 13, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. Inurnment in the Columbarium at the church immediately will follow the service. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
