William Richard Osteen

William Richard Osteen, 83, died Monday, August 1, 2016, at Shannon Medical 

Center surrounded by his loving family.


Mr. Osteen is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dolores, two children: Diane Janzen from 

Fredericksburg, and Renee Beale and son-in-law Joe Recchia from Austin. He also leaves behind 

two grandchildren, Autumn (JB) Byerly of Indiana, Lauren (Shay) Wilde of San Angelo along 

with two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brynn Byerly; his brother, Gene Osteen and two 

nieces, Marsha and Angie.

Mr. Osteen was born April 5, 1933 and raised in Bloomingdale Georgia. William, better known 

as "Richard" was a retired Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. While spending the 

early part of his career at Goodfellow Air Force Base, he met his wife Dolores. They spent the 

first 33 years of their marriage in Aurora, where in the high mountains of Colorado,

Richard's love for the outdoors became his passion. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Both 

he and his wife moved to San Angelo in 1996 after his retirement from the military. 

When Richard wasn't spending time with family, or casting a line into the Concho River, he was 

volunteering his time to the San Angelo State Park, and was a member of the West Side Lions 

Club where much of his charitable work and easy smile will be sorely missed. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday August 5, 2016 at Robert Massie Funeral Home with Chaplain J. T. Tucker, of Shannon, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mary Gertrude "Gigi" Harris

Mary G. “Gigi” Harris, 70, of San Angelo went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 1, 2016 in San Angelo surrounded by her loving family. Gigi was born January 10, 1946 in San Saba, Texas to Taylor and Mary Bukitis Solsbery. She grew up in a farming family in Lohn. She graduated from San Angelo Central High School. She married the love of her life, Dale Alan Harris on November 9, 1968 in San Angelo and shared 47 adventurous and beautiful years together. Gigi loved to travel and lovedgetting “Lost” in cities all over the world. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family and later her cherished grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as “Mabe.” Gigi loved spending time with them. She had a passion for life and love of her family that was unsurpassed by anyone. Her bright and sunny disposition allowed her the ability to spread joy wherever she was and to whoever she met. She was a hairdresser for 50 years and made many friends all over the country. Gigi loved all of the clients she cared for over the years and had many amusing stories to tell everyone about her experiences. Gigi had another passion in life that she dabbled in when she was not being a hairdresser. She was an amazing artist and loved painting. She was a member of The San Angelo Art Club, and her paintings were displayed in a number of places throughout the city. Whatever canvas she touched turned to beauty. Gigi’s fun-loving spirit and life will live on and be cherished in our hearts forever! She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Taylor “Tad” Solsbery, and one sister, JoAnn Kite. She is survived by her husband Dale Harris, of San Angelo; her son and daughter-in-law, Dale Ashton and Natalie Harris, of Mertzon; her Grandchildren, Caylee and Canon Harris, of Mertzon; her Sister and Brother-in-law, Pat “Tishie” and Rex Walker, of Abilene; her Brother and sister-in-law, Clifford “Shorty” and Kathy Harris, of Lubbock; her Sister-in-law, Barbara Damm, of Sweetwater, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and very close friends. The Memorial Service will be 10:30 am, Monday, August 8, 2016 at The First United Methodist Church in Mertzon with Rev. Bun Jackson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Mertzon, P.O. Box 583, Mertzon, Tx 76941 or the Sherwood Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 523, Mertzon, Tx, 76941.

Bill Herman Sr.

Bill Revelle Herman, Sr., of San Angelo passed away peacefully in his home on August 1, 2016. Abiding with Bill’s wishes, his last days were spent at home in the loving care of his bride of sixty-four years, Mary Evelyn Brister Herman and their loving children. 
Bill was born November 5, 1931 in Lamesa, Texas to Max L. Herman, Sr. and Minnie Ola Patterson Herman. 
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, Cindy Prater and husband Ken of San Saba, Theresa Lewis of Grape Creek, Bill R Herman, Jr and wife Alice of Water Valley and Velda Kay Tiblets and husband Charles of Gordon; and numerous grand, great and great-great grandchildren.
Most of his life was lived in San Angelo where he retired after working forty-two years as a brakeman/conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad. He was an active member of the United Transportation Union and as a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen helped fellow railroad employees secure benefits due them. After retirement Bill devoted much time and energy in the fight to save and restore the old Santa Fe –Orient Depot which now houses the Railroad Museum of San Angelo. He is a member of the Grape Creek United Methodist Church and was proud of his role in the formation of the Grape Creek Community Food Pantry that now serves over 630 families.
Visitation will be held all day Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the funeral home with family present 5-6:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Colony Cemetery in San Saba County, Texas with Ralph Thompson officiating. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Colony Memorial Cemetery Association or Kindred Hospice of San Angelo or Grape Creek Community Food Pantry.

Joy Lee (Shaw) Gallion

Our precious mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Joy Lee Shaw Gallion, 79, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2016, with her family at her side. Her parents, Howard and Helen Shaw, named her Joy, on November 22, 1936, in West Palm Beach, Florida, because that is what she brought to them the day she was born, after losing their first daughter, Frances Marie Shaw, as an infant. She brought "joy" to many and her "joy" was her family.Joy married, Donald Gallion, on August 20th, 1955 and together they enjoyed 45 years of marriage, until his passing on September 6th, 2000. 
They had four children born into this marriage, one daughter, "Jacie" Jacquelyn Cortese, and three sons, Donald II, Raymond, "Butch" Ralph Gallion and she loved their spouses as her special daughters, Glennda and Patricia, and her special son, Gary. They were blessed with eight grand children, Donald III, Raymond II, Christina, Howard, Travis, Brittney, Amber and Joseph, along with 17 great grand children. Joy is survived by her brother Don Shaw & wife Carol, sisters in law, Virginia Shaw, Edie Flury, Arlene Meddles, Peggy Gallion, and brother in law Ellis Gallion & wife Phyllis. Joy also is survived by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister and brother, "Buddy" Howard Shaw. Joy spent her first 15 years of married life as a Air Force wife and stay at home mom before going back to school. At 36 years old, Joy graduated from the San Angelo Vocational School of Nursing. Her love and first job was the Shannon Hospital Labor/Delivery department for a few years then as Dr. Edward Christensen, OB/GYN, office nurse for over 25 years. Joy loved those babies. Joy volunteered at the GAFB Pharmacy and for Meals for the Elderly during her retirement. Joy developed dementia that turned into Alzheimer's. Purple is the color for Alzheimer's awareness and was Joy's favorite color, as well. Also, anyone that knew her, knew she was the ultimate Dallas Cowboy fan. We invite those that may attend Joy's Memorial service to wear the color purple or Dallas Cowboy attire. Memorial service for Joy will be at 4:00 Monday, August 1st, 2016, in the Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel, at 435 W. Beauregard. The family will be at 1717 Amhurst Drive over the weekend.Arrangements under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home, San Angelo, TX.

Charles Lee Schneider

Charles Lee Schneider passed away Sunday morning on July 31, 2016 at The Regency House in San Angelo. A memorial Service will be held at Harper Funeral Home on August 8, 2016 at 10:00 A.M., and will be officiated by Tommy King.
Charles was born on February 6, 1929 in Ozona, Texas, the Only child of Robert Lee and Myrtle (Feist) Schneider. During his school years in Ozona, his sweet disposition earned him the nickname “Sugg” …a moniker which is still used by a select set of old time friends. After graduating from Ozona High School in 1947, Charles went to Angelo State Jr. College before going on to North Texas State University in Denton, TX where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Charles returned to Ozona and began working in the Post Office where he met his future bride, Gussie Ruth Sparks, who had just started working there after graduating from high school. They married May 2, 1952. After a period of serious Bible study with Gussie’s brother, Burl Sparks, Charles was baptized into Christ in 1957. He spent the rest of his life following Christ and was a dedicated student of God’s word. Charles and Gussie raised their two sons in a Christian home and were members of Ozona Church of Christ. Charles worked at the post office in Ozona for 39 years. He was the Assistant Post Master when he retired in 1990. Charles and Gussie moved to San Angelo in 1994. They have been well known and loved by fellow members of the 9th and Main Church of Christ.
Charles always loved working out and took great pride in staying in shape. Throughout his life he played basketball, tennis, golf, lifted weights and was still riding his bike 5 miles a day as recently as a year ago.
Charles is survived by Gussie, his wife of 64 years; son, Mike and his wife Stephanie of Cheyenne, WY; son, Ronnie and his wife Kelly of San Angelo; granddaughter Monica Huntington and her husband Bob of Cheyenne, WY; granddaughter, Jessica Schneider of Cheyenne, WY; granddaughter, Kathy Schneider of Fort Worth; great grandchildren, Brock Huntington and Micaela Huntington of Cheyenne, WY.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Hospice of San Angelo, all their staff, and especially to Debbie Bishop, Shirley Jones, and Veronica Dominguez for their loving care throughout this journey. They would also like to thank Dr. Dusty Anderton and Penny Griffin for the care they have given Charles for many years and the nurses at Regency for their most recent care. 
The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Hospice of San Angelo. (HOSA)

Shelia Head Ratekin Tusha

Shelia Head Tusha passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 in Ft. Worth, TX.
Born February 14, 1945 to Anna and Billy E. Head in Levelland, Texas, she spent her first year in Levelland and Abilene while her father served in World War II (Pacific Theater). The family moved to Mobile, AL., Galveston, and back to Mobile, finally settling in San Angelo. Before graduating Central High School in 1963, Shelia participated in Tri-Hi-Y. From an early age, Shelia’s passion was dance. She studied at the June Taylor Dance Academy (New York, NY), eventually teaching at June Taylor (Rome, NY). Shelia married James Matthew Ratekin October 18, 1964. They lived in Massachusetts, Alaska and the Philippines before returning to San Antonio when Shelia was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1974. 
Shelia and her children returned to San Angelo where Shelia worked for Beltone Hearing Aid Service as an Audioprosthologist, retiring in 1996 due to M.S. Shelia maintained a positive attitude, never letting M.S. stop her from participating in her children and grandchildren’s lives. Shelia participated in Walk to Emmaus, was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, Journey Sunday School Class and Sanctuary Choir, Past Matron of Chapter #10 the Order of the Eastern Star, Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls and long-time member of Suez Daughters of the Nile.
Shelia is survived by her mother, Anna Head Lewis of San Angelo, five children, Kris Ratekin, wife Sarah, and children Faythe, Andrew, Myranda, and Emily (Noblesville, IN), Brent Ratekin, wife Karen and children, Colby, Joshua, and Julie (Bullard, TX), Deidra Ratekin Keane, husband Paul and children, Amber and Austin (San Angelo), Randy Tusha, wife Michelle and children James, Anthony, and Marissa (Cabot, AR), Cory Tusha and children Jakob and Erek (Cabot, AR), and former husband Lynn Tusha (Carlsbad, NM). She is preceded in death by her father.
Family extends appreciation to the Shannon nursing staff specifically Drs. John Harvey and Chris Vanderzandt. 
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at First United Methodist of San Angelo. The family requests people wear bright colors to celebrate Shelia’s life. 
Memorials can be made in Shelia’s name to First United Methodist Choir Fund, or Kindred Transitional Care Hospice of Ft. Worth.

Leon Nance

Leon Clinton Nance went home to join his loving family on July 26, 2016. 

Leon was born at home September 19, 1936 in Pear Valley, Texas to Edd Holle Nance and Annie Pearl Wyndham Nance. The day the drought broke with San Angelo being flooded, the planned birth place for Leon was San Angelo therefore; he was born at home on the family farm the fourth child born to his parents. 

He graduated from Lohn High School where he excelled on the six-man football team for the Lohn Eaglesand graduated in the class of 1955. Leon was a popular young man and was admired by both the faculty and students. He attended San Angelo Junior College.

He actively sponsored youth organizations including the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Premium Sale for 20+ years for the junior livestock sale. He was a member of Silver City, NM Consolidated School Board of Education.

His most recent career was ranching and real estate (licensed since 1964) which became his legacy. He was married 57 years to Billie Joyce Norman Nance and together they raised their daughter, Sunni Lynn Nance. Leon was a very generous and loving husband, son, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather. Spending time with his family was the joy and strength of his life.

Mr. Nance was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Annie, his brother Eddie and his two sisters, Edna and Stella. He is survived by his wife Joyce Nance of Grape Creek, his daughter, Sunni Lynn Nance Gothard, son in law Courtney Gothard and granddaughter Summerain Nance Gothard of Blackwell. Also left to cherish his memory are nieces Cheryl Jackson of Albuquerque, Gwen King of Katy, Paulette Melton of Fort Worth, nephew Wayne Holle Cooke, and cousins Debra Nance, Harlan Nance, and Alvin Bolton as well as other loving family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, July 29, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Service is Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 9 am at Harper Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Pear Valley Cemetery.
