John Samuel Hall

John Samuel Hall was born in Huntsville, Alabama on January 4, 1927. He passed away in his home surrounded by his family on March 4, 2017. He fought a hard battle with Alzheimers for 10 years. His wife Mary Lou was by his side, caring for him with dignity and compassion.

Most Friday nights they would eat dinner at Henry’s Restaurant sitting at their special table. He was drafted out of high school and he chose the US Marine Corp where he served aboard the USS Franklin during WWII.… After returning to high school and graduating he entered the US Air Force where he served 22 years. During that time he served in the Korean War. He was a humble man and a proud American serving his country.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Hall. John and Mary Lou have 6 children. Sam Hall of Richardson, TX, Susan Neighbors of San Angelo, TX, John and Paula Hall of San Angelo, TX, Ron and Wanda Hall of Opelika, AL, Wayne and Beverly Hall of Odessa,Tx and Kathy and John Wyatt of San Angelo, TX. Grandchildren are Jeff Neighbors, Janet & Bryan Abernathy, Aaron Hall, Katie & Seth Summerlin, Daniel & Kim Hall, Tammy Hall, Christina & Lamar Lynn, Chad & Amanda Hall, Chase & Anna Hall, Clint & Noelle Hall, Jake Wyatt, Clay & Jill Wyatt, Wes & Stephanie Wyatt, and Boone & Juanita Wyatt. Great Grandchildren are Kaden Abernathy, Mary-Kate Abernathy, Everly Abernathy, Pippa Abernathy, Jackson Summerlin, Ryan Summerlin, Adelaide Summerlin, Olive Summerlin, Lily Lynn, Madison Hall, Reece Hall, Harper Hall, Grace Hall, Adalyn Hall, Taylor Wyatt, Peyton Wyatt, Jersey Wyatt and Kenadie Wyatt. John was preceded in death by his son-in-law Phil Neighbors.

Visitation will be Friday, March 10, 2017 4-6 PM at Harper Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at Lawnhaven Cemetery Saturday March 11, 2017 at 10:00 AM officiated by Taylor Sandlin.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of San Angelo.

Dr. John P. "Jack" Coughlin

Dr. John P. “Jack” Coughlin, 81, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 5, 2017 in San Angelo. Jack was born June 24, 1935 in Oak Park, Illinois to Bryan R. and Kathryn E. Feely Coughlin. He grew up in the Chicago area and after High School attended The University of Notre Dame where he served his pre-med training. He attended medical school at Loyola University and graduated on June 13, 1961. Jack served his internship at Cincinnati General Hospital from 1961 to 1962, and then… from 1962 to 1966 served his residency at the Surgical and Urologic University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati General Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served his country honorably, in the United States Army, from 1966 to 1968 where he became Chief of Urology at Darnell Army Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas. Jack moved to San Angelo in 1968 where he opened his private practice in Urology and remained in practice until his retirement in 2013. Jack’s hospital appointments were St. John’s Hospital and Shannon West Texas Memorial Hospital. He was a part of numerous Professional Societies, a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Chapter 2136, was instrumental in serving San Angelo, Tom Green County, West Texas and numerous other cities in Texas on many Board of Directors and as a consultant for many organizations. He married Rita Kathleen Strebeck on August 28, 1987 and they shared 29 beautiful years together. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who devoted his life to his family and to his patients. He loved spending time with his family, and as a physician, also put his patients first. Above all, Jack’s passion in life was his practice of medicine. He loved all his patients and considered them all friends. If during his life, Jack could help someone in any way, he wanted those patients to give back to others in return. His legacy of love for his family, and legacy of healing and helping patients will live on in our hearts forever! Jack was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Coughlin, of San Angelo; his children, Theresa Coughlin-Dunn and her husband Fred and their daughter, Megan, of Washington, D.C., Mark Coughlin and his wife Elizabeth and their children, Stephen and Matthew, of Houston, Kevin Coughlin, of Dallas, Joanna Coughlin, of Dallas, Barbara Coughlin-Shuler and her husband Ron, and their children Reilly, Caitlyn and Zachary, all of Clarksville, TN., and Sherryl Wilson, of San Angelo; the mother of his children, Ginger Coughlin, of, Clarksville, TN. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., Wednesday at Harper Funeral Home. The Graveside service will be 1:00 P.M., Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Sherwood Cemetery in Sherwood, TX. Aside from his tremendous love for people, Dr. Jack also had a love for animals. The family requests that Donations be made to Concho Valley PAWS, 4001 Sunset Dr., San Angelo, TX 76904.

Violet Grace Maxwell

Violet Grace Green Maxwell, known lovingly as 'Granny' by her grandchildren and as ‘Vi’ by her friends, left her earthly home to be with Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 4, 2017.

Born on April 29, 1931 in Beaumont, Texas, Violet loved children and taught at a pre-school for many years. She then worked as a dental assistant, and her last position before retirement was a clerk for a savings and loan. Violet grew up in the First Baptist Church of Beaumont where she regularly volunteered. She was well known for her knowledge of and devotion to scripture. All who had the chance to tour her yard and garden know of Violet’s lifelong passion for gardening and flowers. Violet had an eye for capturing the beauty in nature and was a gifted artist.

Violet moved to San Angelo, Texas in 1999 to be closer to family, where she joined the First Baptist Church of San Angelo. She is survived by her daughter Ginger Heare and husband Bruce; her grandchildren Daniel Heare and wife Hannah; Lauren Morris and husband Hunter; Brad Heare and wife Jean, and her great-grandchild Kyla Jean Heare.

A very special thank you to the wonderful staff of Division Five at Baptist Memorial for their love and care.

The family will receive guests at Harper’s Funeral Home on Monday, March 6 from 5:30 until 7:30 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 7 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in San Angelo. Violet will then be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont, Texas on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM.

Michael L. Campbell

Michael L. Campbell (nick-named Mikki), 66, of San Angelo went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, February 25, 2017 in San Angelo. Michael was born October 12, 1950 in Los Angeles, CA to Lynnwood Campbell and Luella Meeks. He grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from David Starr Jordan High School. Mikki served his country proudly in the United States Air Force for 20 years from 1971 to 1991 doing Security Forces. After retirement from the U.S. Air Force, he joined the San Angelo Police… Department in 1991 and became an officer in 1992. He later moved into Civil Service and retired from there in 2016. Mikki married Helen B. Dozier on December 16, 1980 and they shared 36 beautiful years together. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who devoted his life to his family, his country and his community. He was a servant to everyone and above all God. He never stopped going out of his way to help anyone during his lifetime. Mikki was a devoted member of his church the Christian House of Prayer, where he served as an usher and was a member of Total Men’s Fellowship. He was also a member of the “Blue Knights” motorcycle group. He had many passions in life. He played all sports and loved to tell everyone he was a true “Athlete.” Mikki was an avid sports enthusiast and loved the San Francisco 49’ers and the L.A. Lakers. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on vintage cars and motorcycles, assembling model cars, numerous other hobbies and especially getting a baked potato and tea at McAllister’s at least once a week. Mikki’s legacy of love and compassion for others will be carried in all our hearts forever and we will dearly miss him. Mikki was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen B. Campbell, of San Angelo; his Son, Michel-Pul Campbell and his wife, Karla, of Dallas, TX; his Grandchildren, Brandon Michael Campbell, Sean Allen Campbell, and Ryland James Campbell, all of Dallas, TX; his Brothers and Sisters, Hazziz Ali and his wife Andrea, of Los Angeles, Jacqueline Henderson and her husband Larry, of Las Vegas, N.V., Patricia Williams, of Los Angeles, Anthony Cook and his wife Rose, of San Antonio, TX, and Don Turner and his wife Ronda, of El Paso, TX; numerous nieces and nephews; Special Friends, Michael Constancia, Virgis Cutler, George Smith, Shila Wu, Brian Bylsma, and many other special friends and family. The Funeral Service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 4, 2017 at The First Christian Church in San Angelo with Dr. Ralph F. Dawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Dennis Winterrowd

Dennis Lance Winterrowd, age 77 from San Angelo, Texas, departed from this life to be with his Heavenly Father on February 28, 2017. He was born October 23, 1939 in Big Spring, Texas to Ross Earl and Sarah Edith Winterrowd, and lived most of his life in West Texas. He was married June 30, 1961 to his beloved wife, Mary Read Winterrowd, also of Big Spring, and they recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. Dennis was a graduate of Pecos High School and Angelo State University. Dennis climbed… the ranks at Ethicon, Inc. in San Angelo, Texas, starting as a Class C electrician, and retired as an Engineering Manager with 38 years of service. Most importantly, the lives that he touched with his workplace humor, and his heart to see the people around him realize their potential will never be forgotten by the people that he interacted with throughout his career. Dennis was known as "Mr. Fix-it". There was no job that he would not tackle, and his perseverance and mechanical inclination led him to achieve some amazing feats - but by the end of each project, there was usually a funny story to tell of some of the fix attempts that didn't quite work as planned. Dennis was a goal-setter, and he achieved some amazing things, from obtaining his private pilot license to completing marathons, he gained satisfaction from making his vision a reality. He loved the game of golf, and was a lucky hunter and fisherman. Most importantly, Dennis loved His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and his heart's desire was to walk faithfully with him. He had a true servant's heart, and is known by his countless examples of generosity, well-placed words of encouragement, touches of kindness, and helping hands, which made a difference in the lives of his family and all within his circle of influence. Dennis is survived by his wife, Mary Read Winterrowd, of San Angelo, Texas, a son, Lance Read Winterrowd, and wife Mary of San Antonio, Texas, and a daughter, Julie Winterrowd Quade and husband Steven of San Angelo, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren Aaron Blakeley Quade and wife Gabriella of San Antonio, Texas, Austin Ross Quade of San Angelo, Texas, Faith Winterrowd Brugner and husband Matt of Dallas, Texas, Zachary Lance Winterrowd of Waco, Texas and Matthew Read Winterrowd of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by two brothers, Lonnie Winterrowd and wife Dawn of Lubbock, Texas, Cary Winterrowd and wife Vickie of Kerrville, Texas, one sister, Linda Laughlin of Georgetown, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Glen Meadows Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas on Friday, March 3rd, at 2:00 PM, followed with burial at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Dennis loved the ministry of House of Faith in San Angelo, and the family requests that donations be made to this organization in lieu of flowers.

Asteria Latham

Asteria J. Latham, 58 passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at her residence in San Angelo, Texas. She was born to Jesus Jorge and Crescencia Bejagan Jorge in Manlapay Dalaguete Cebu, Philippines on October 21, 1958. Asteria grew up in the Philippines, and at the age of eighteen she moved to Hong Kong and worked for two years. She then moved to Canada and was a chef for the Toronto Blue Jays owner. She became a citizen of the United States and had citizenship in the Philippines as well.…

She later made her home in San Angelo and worked for Levi Strauss Company until they closed the plant. Asteria then worked for Skinny’s Convenience Stores as a Manager for many years. She was a very meticulous and conscientious manager. The company appreciated her exceptional work ethic.

Asteria was an excellent cook; she also loved karaoke, singing, and dancing. She loved to celebrate life. She was very organized in all things and she had a beautiful smile that could light up the room. She was a loving daughter, sister, and wife and we will dearly miss her.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Andy Escamilla, her mother, and her brother Maximo Jorge. She was survived by her husband David Latham, of San Angelo, step-children, Nathan Latham and wife Chantelle of Midland, TX, Kristi Plunk, and husband Marshall, of Fort Worth, TX., Dayna Latham of Lindenhurst, N.Y., her father Jesus Jorge, brothers, Mauro Jorge, Segundino Jorge, Leonilo Jorge, sisters Carmencita Jorge Sagucio, and Alejandra Jorge Carson, all of Manlapay Dalaguete Cebu City, Philippines.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Harper Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jim Benson officiating.

James Norton Perkins passed away on February 13, 2017. He was born on April 3, 1931 to James and Bertie Perkins in Texarkana, TX. He served honorably in the U.S. Army in the late 1950’s. He loved to fish, hunt and be in the great outdoors. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Pansy Perkins. He is survived by his sons, Ray Perkins and Roy Perkins, both of San Angelo; and his sister Elta Long of San Angelo. The Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2017 at Belvedere… Memorial Park.

Emma Valdez Soto went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 23, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born in Brady, TX on February 11, 1934 to Juan and Francisca Valdez.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Jeanette Holguin, husband Henry G. Soto, and great granddaughter Cierra Holguin.
Survivors include Diana Ramirez of Ft. Worth; Henry Soto, Bernice Cardenas, Debbie Soto of San Angelo; Opie (Yvonne) Soto of Little Elm; Frances Alcocer, Orlando Soto of San Angelo; John… (Andrea) Soto of Dallas; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a sister Dora Longoria of Santa Ana, CA and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Roberto Soto, Jerry Perez, Abraham Rodriguez, Joe Garza, Rowdy Garza, Eugene Martinez, Orlando Carrillo and Armando Moncada. Honorary pallbearers will be David Cano and Edward Rodriguez.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Harper Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
There are no words adequate enough to say THANK YOU to Dr. Cerna, Dr. Blanc, Dr. Coats, Dr. Melott, and the nurses at Shannon 5N for the care they provided for our mother. To Cecilia Najera and Jesse Aguirre, your love and friendship meant the world to our mom.
She was elegant, shy, loving, sarcastic, funny, and beautiful inside and out. We will miss her hugs, laugh, stories, and wisdom. We take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her husband Henry and loved ones who have passed (including Elvis Presley, Paul Walker and Juan Gabriel.)
