Michael "Mike" King

04/27/2024 - 22:52 , by TKing09

Michael King was born to Harold King and Mary Elyzabeth Pryor on July 18, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas, and passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in San Angelo, Texas. He grew up with a younger brother, Mark Pryor. Throughout the years following, Mike and Mark were introduced to Evelyn Oleta King, who quickly became mom and raised them along with their younger brother, Harlod Lee King.

From a very early age, Michael King was an accomplished athlete. In high school, Mike excelled at football, basketball, and baseball. In his junior year, as a pitcher, he led Midland High School to the state finals tournament in baseball. As a senior, he was an outstanding quarterback and defensive back on their successful football team. After high school graduation from Midland High School in 1962, he was recruited by Darrell Royal to play football at the University of Texas at Austin. He went on to play on the very first national championship football team at The University. They were voted number one in the nation and won the national championship of NCAA football in 1963-64. He subsequently went on to receive his bachelor's degree from, what was then called, Texas Western University in El Paso (UTEP). After that, he earned his master’s degree in Audiology from the University of Arizona in Tucson.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he married his high school sweetheart Jo Harriet Jackson. Upon graduation from the University of Arizona, he and Jo Harriet moved to the Dallas area so Mike could begin his audiology career at the Callier Center for Communication. Shortly thereafter, in 1972, they had their first child Jessica Michelle. They soon moved to San Angelo, Texas, where Mike continued his audiology career, and he and Jo Harriet continued to raise their family. Their son Ryan Lee was born in 1975, and their youngest daughter Kristin Harriet was born in 1984.

Mike wore many hats in his years- coach, teacher, principal, deacon. He was known for his discipline with gentle spirit. While raising his family, Mike was an avid band-dad, Little League Coach, and golf coach. In addition, he worked through the churches as a bible school teacher, part-time preacher, and a deacon. However busy, he always made time for his family as he considered his family his most cherished accomplishment.

Mike leaves behind his precious wife, Jo, and their children: Michelle and Chad Sims, Ryan and Crystal King, and Kristin and Clay Hunt. His grandchildren are left behind to carry on his legacy: Carlee Jo and Macee Mae Sims; Kenzie King; Stella, Harriet, Lux, and Pierce Hunt. In addition, Mike leaves behind his beloved brother, Mark. Mike is survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews and family friends, Sandy and Armon (Dude) Moore and their children and families: Shanna (Kevin) Saverance and children and Kelli (Ry) Thompson and children.

Mike was preceded in death by his younger brother Harold Lee King Jr, his mother Mary Elyzabeth Pryor, his father Harold King, and his stepmother Evelyn Oleta King.

The family will receive visitors at 1 pm on Saturday, April 27, at Harper Funeral Home with a service following at 2 pm. Pallbearers will be Mark King, Armon Moore, Chad Sims, Ryan King, Clay Hunt, Kevin Saverance and Ry Thompson.

The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to all the friends and caregivers over the years.

Bobby Dean Lacy (Bubba) was born November 20, 1950, to Claude Lacy and Dessie McKinney Lacy, in San Angelo, Texas. He and his twin sister, Billie Jean (Sister) became close before being introduced to the world. Bobby stayed in the womb an extra three minutes to receive massive intelligence, soothing compassion, glowing personality, and unflinching perseverance. He joined other siblings that adored him--Claude Lacy, Jr., Jimmie Ruth, Bonnie Raye and John Edward. Our younger sister Shirley Jean became a member of the clan in later years.

Bobby Dean attended Hammond Elementary and Blackshear Jr. High and was always the smartest student in the class. He was Valedictorian of our 9th Grade class at graduation, May 1966. As a Central High School Student, he was president of our Pathfinders Social Club and Vice President of the Student Council. Upon graduation, in May 1969 he was in the top five percent of our class and earned a National Honor Society scholarship. While attending the University of Houston, he became a loving and loyal brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He and his brothers developed caring, lifelong relationships. Bobby loved his fraternity and spoke of his brothers many times.
