Norma Davis

05/13/2024 - 09:03 , by TKing09

Norma Rene Davis (Seely), 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2024 in her home in San Angelo. Private interment will be in Andrews, Texas under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Davis was born and raised in the small farming community of O'Donnell. She attended the Joe Bailey School and then in the O'Donnell school until she graduated from high school.

Shortly after that, she married Larron Davis. Their first child, Edward was born in 1952, while Larron was serving in the Army in Korea. After his return, Larron was employed by the Halliburton Company and moved to Midland. Over the next several years that job took them to Odessa, Rankin, Monahans, and Kermit. During this time their second child, Julia, was born in 1955. When the family was transferred to Andrews, they put down roots until their children graduated from high school. While living in Andrews, the family owned and operated the Davis Horse Stables at the old rodeo grounds in McKinney Acres. Both Larron and Norma were involved in 4-H leadership and activities while their children were growing up. Norma was employed at the Kirby Vacuum Cleaner factory after it came to Andrews, until she and Larron went overseas.

At that time Larron went to work for Dowell Schlumberger as a lead service engineer and he and Norma moved to Southeast Asia. That job took them to Djakarta, Sumatra, Borneo, Burma, Tiawan, and then on to France and later to Scottland.

After Larron retired they moved to Cleburne and then to Sweetwater where they owned a window and door business until Larron's death in 2000.

Norma moved to Rio Concho West Senior Living Community in San Angelo, where she lived until her passing.

Norma had a very exciting life and collected antiques from places all over the world. She traveled extensively during their time overseas. She was an accomplished artist and painted mostly in water colors.

She and Larron were members of the Church of Christ in all the places they lived.

Growing up in World War II had a profound effect on Norma. She was deeply patriotic and studied history and followed politics avidly.

Norma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Jan Davis of Salt Flat; and her daughter, Julia Taylor of San Angelo; and her one and only granddaughter and her husband, Lacy Davis and Marty Mendes of Carlsband, New Mexico.

Robert "Bob" Dillon

05/09/2024 - 09:37 , by TKing09

Robert “Bob” Dillon was born on October 28, 1928, in Yankton, South Dakota, to John and Myrtle (Wynn) Dillon. He peacefully passed into his heavenly home on Saturday, May 4, 2024, with his family by his side.

Bob's early life was marked by difficulty and complexity, much like many Americans during the Great Depression. As a young boy, he was shuffled between orphanages and extended family members, living in various cities across South Dakota, Iowa, Texas, Nebraska, and Illinois, never attending the same school for more than a year. Although he moved frequently, he talked fondly of his Grandmother Dillon and his aunts and uncles that raised him. He especially enjoyed time spent working on their farms and they instilled in him a great work ethic. In 1944, at the age of 16, he was hired with the Santa Fe railroad. He then enlisted in the United States Marines Corp in August of 1946, going through boot camp at Parris Island, S.C. and was stationed at Portsmouth, VA. He returned to the railroad and then re-enlisted in February of 1951, going to combat training at Camp Pendleton and deploying on May 8th to Korea for over a year. Bob’s service during the Korean War was marked by significant loss but through it he gained a profound understanding of sacrifice, which deeply influenced his life and his unwavering love for his country for the remainder of his days.

While in the service, Bob married Loretta Fern Byrd on July 16, 1952 in Kingman, AZ. Their son Robert Roy “Bobby” was born in Corona, CA while they were stationed at Camp Pendleton. In 1954, after serving in the Marines, they moved to Amarillo, TX where their daughter Loretta Sue was born and Bob returned to the railroad. Later, they settled in Slaton, Texas, where their family was completed with the birth of their daughter Melissa Ann. Bob dedicated 43 years to the Santa Fe Railroad before retiring.

After retiring, Bob relocated to Brownwood, Texas, where he married Brenda Cypert and they later moved to San Angelo, Texas. In San Angelo, he became active in the Tea Party and engaged in various political and community service endeavors, driven by his commitment to improving his beloved country. Bob wrote countless newspaper articles and letters to the editor in an effort to make a difference. It was during his time in Brownwood and San Angelo that Bob reconnected with his faith in Jesus Christ, fostering many meaningful friendships that shaped his spiritual journey, which he continued until his passing.

At age 90, Bob moved to Andover, Kansas, where he lived with his daughter Loretta and her husband Steve Lemons until his passing. He had the great privilege of flying to Washington, D.C. in 2019 with the Honor Flight of Kansas. Active in the Andover Senior Center and a member of Faith Baptist Church, Bob formed many cherished friendships and delighted in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Maxine, brother Arnold, daughter-in-law Gayla Dillon, grandson Brian Lemons, great-granddaughter Daisy Dillon, and great-grandson Chase Dillon. Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, son Robert Roy “Bobby” Dillon of San Angelo, TX, daughter Loretta Lemons and husband Steve of Andover, KS, daughter Melissa Smith and husband Ken of Ransom Canyon, TX, wife Brenda Cypert Dillon and her daughter Denise (Paul) Wilferth of Abilene, TX, former spouse Loretta Fern Page of Slaton, TX, grandchildren Michael (Neat) Dillon, Chris (Jennifer) Lemons, Jenae (Kevin) Crowley, Brad (Brittney) Lemons, Kellie Lemons, Jake (Cara) Smith, Hannah (Aaron) Romo, Jenna Smith, Zack Smith, and Garrett. Bob was lovingly known as “Papa Dillon” by his great-grandchildren Chelsea, Dana, Dalton, Devin, Caleb, Noah, Calla, Asher, Ezekiel, Adelyn, River, Cade, Denver, Marceline, and Jocelyn and his great-great-grandchildren Kenna, Lathan, Cole, Conner, Wrenley, and Willow, leaving behind a rich legacy of love and devotion.

A Celebration of Life for Robert Dillon will be held on Thursday, May 9th at 3pm at Faith Baptist Church in Andover under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating. We invite you to celebrate Robert, and the country he loved so much, by wearing patriotic clothing of red, white, or blue. A military burial will take place in San Angelo, Texas on Saturday, May 11th at 11am at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Larry David Fluitt

05/09/2024 - 09:24 , by TKing09

Larry David Fluitt of San Angelo, TX went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2024, with his wife Linda at his side. He was 88 years of age. He was born on April 24, 1936 in Burnet, TX, the son of Leland and Lillian Dodd Fluitt. He was the youngest of three children, and was preceded in death by his parents and by his two older sisters, Sue Mallett of Burnet, and Norma Milligan of Austin.

Larry grew up near Buchanan Lake, outside of Burnet, and attended Burnet High School, where he played basketball and baseball. He went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin, and Abilene Christian College, where he was a pitcher on the baseball team.

He met his future wife, Linda Bradford, at church, and they were married on July 10, 1958 in LaMarque, TX. Their first place of residence was in Hitchcock, TX, where Larry worked for a sheet metal company, while preaching part-time. He soon felt God’s calling to become a full-time minister of the Gospel, and at the age of 22, he became the pulpit minister at the Church of Christ in Mason, TX, where they lived for the next five years.

Their sons, David Bradford Fluitt and Kip D Fluitt were born in 1962 and 1966, respectively, and in 1968, following brief preaching stints in Decatur and Keller, the family moved to Sweetwater, where Larry preached at the Lamar Street Church of Christ for 32 years.

During their time in Sweetwater, Larry was an active and respected member of the community, and a tireless worker for the cause of Christ: spreading the gospel, counseling, and ministering to those in need.

Larry’s favorite sport was baseball, and he was able to continue his passion for the game by coaching his sons’ teams for many years, winning numerous city and district championships. He was also a highly respected basketball referee, officiating many district and state championship tournaments, as well as Lone Star Conference games.

In his mid-40’s Larry obtained his aircraft private pilot’s license, as well as a commercial license and instrument flight rating, allowing him to fly commercially, which he did for the USDA as an aerial crop photographer, through his company, Air Photo.

Larry retired from preaching in 2000, and he and Linda soon moved to San Angelo, where they became active members of the Southgate Church of Christ, forging many deep and lasting friendships. Larry served as an elder at Southgate for many years, before stepping down. One of the great joys of living in San Angelo, was being close to Brad, their daughter-in-law Tammy, and grandson, Canon. They particularly enjoyed attending Canon’s sporting events.

Also during this time, they were blessed with an additional daughter-in-law in Kip’s wife, Frances, and two more grandchildren, Mia and Jack.

Larry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Linda Fluitt; his oldest son, Brad, and his wife Tammy, of San Angelo; his youngest son, Kip, and his wife Frances, of Austin; and his grandchildren, Canon Fluitt of San Angelo, Mia Fluitt of College Station, and Jack Fluitt of Austin.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 10:00am, at Southgate Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to San Angelo Christian Academy or Southgate Church of Christ.

Mona Bly Hicks

05/08/2024 - 09:04 , by TKing09

Our marvelous Mona Bell met her creator on May 6, 2024. She blessed our lives for 89 wonderful years full of love, wisdom, wit, and compassion. She opened her arms to all walks of life, and never met a stranger. Simply put: To know her was to love her. A legendary matriarch, companion, and confidant to her family and friends… Mona was the definition of “cool!“

Mona Bly Hicks was born to Jewel Ditmore and Cliff N. Bly on April 29, 1935 in San Angelo, Texas. She attended Lake View HS where she cheered and excelled in sports. She was honored to be Lake View’s “Coming Home Queen” twice. She married Bobby Gene Hicks in 1951, and was blessed with two children, Monette (in 1954) and Michael (in 1958). Attending Immanuel Baptist Church since birth, Mona and Bobby chose to raise their children there and made many lifelong friends. As a young woman, she taught Sunday School and was very involved in the girls’ youth group. She was a very strong and faithful Christian her entire life, always leading with a level head and love. She was long on common sense, always telling you like it is… something that perpetually led us on the right paths.

Mona opened the Carriage when she was 34, a place that nurtured countless friendships and fabulous fashion… two things that were very important to her. She loved what she did, and the Carriage’s success was her dream that she saw realized! Although she loved the success of her business, the happiest day of her life was when she became a grandmother! Bobby and Mona‘s world revolved around their grandchildren. From babydolls and bugs to mudpies and Malt-O-Meal, and singing old songs from the past, “Going to Grandmommy‘s“ was Heaven on Earth! There was just nothing better! Mona blessed her grandchildrens’ lives with deep wisdom and loving guidance. Her favorite thing was to stay up all night, laughing and visiting with her grandchildren. You could never leave her house at a decent hour, nor did you really want to! She was love. She retired at 56, and spent the rest of her days working in her beautiful backyard, and keeping the Diet Dr. Pepper Corporation in business!

Mona was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bobby Gene Hicks, her parents, Cliff and Jewel Bly, and her brother, Cliff Bly. Left to cherish her memory are: her daughter, Monette Hicks Harris and husband, Hilton Harris, her son, Michael Lee Hicks and wife, Melissa Hicks, her grandchildren: Courtnie Harris Isbell (Cody), Tesa Thompson (Bryan), Tay Harris (Travis), Hunter Hicks (Kaley), and her great-grandchildren: Will Wagner, Kennedy and Blaine Foster, Bly and Beck Harris, Hudson Hicks, and Vera Reign Schneider. She is also survived by her dearest and devoted friend, Jody Jett, and extended family Candis Hicks.

Our Mona Bell will go down in the history books as the best mother, grandmother, confidant, protector, poet... and our biggest fan! She always had and always will own a piece of our hearts. She is forever in the arms of Jesus and her own grandmother, Ma Bly, and we all now gain the gift of a new guardian angel.

A private service will be held for Mona. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and sign the register book in her honor at Johnson's Funeral Home.

“What though the odds be great or be small,

Old Lakeview high will win overall,

while her loyal sons go marching onward to victory!“
