Willie Ray Rannefeld

05/27/2025 - 08:07 , by TKing09

With deep love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Willie Ray Rannefeld, 89, of Eden, Texas, who left this world peacefully on May 22, 2025, at Shannon Memorial Hospital in San Angelo.

Born to Will and Olga Rannefeld on a farm in the Live Oak community outside Eden, Willie Ray’s early years were spent on farms near Sherwood, Knickerbocker, and Tankersley. After high school in San Angelo, he began a 37-year career as a route salesman with Gandy’s Dairies.

On June 30, 1957, he married the love of his life, Della Post of Christoval. The couple returned to Eden in 1961, where they raised their sons Jearl and James. A member of the Church of Christ, Willie Ray’s faith and concern for others were central to his life.

He was a lifetime member of the Eden Volunteer Fire Department, where he served with distinction as Fire Chief and Fire Marshal, receiving Firefighter of the Year honors three times. He was also a member of the Eden ISD School Board, the Jaycees, and was honored as Senior Citizen of the Year by the Eden Chamber of Commerce. His community spirit even won him the “Bushiest Beard” contest at the Eden Lions Club Carnival.

In retirement, Willie Ray and Della operated the Eden Laundry and a variety of small ventures from the old Exxon station in town. Known for his kindness, strong work ethic, and gentle humor, he always had a story to tell—or advice to share, whether asked for or not.

He enjoyed classic cars, fishing, gardening, and—most of all—spending time with his family and friends.

Willie Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Della Rannefeld of Eden; sons Jearl Rannefeld and wife Janet of George West and James Rannefeld and wife Lynda of Eden; six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Olga Rannefeld, and his brother Vernon Rannefeld, all of San Angelo.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with interment at Lawnhaven Cemetery immediately afterward.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Willie Ray’s legacy with a donation to the Eden Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 327, Eden, TX 76837.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Ballinger Home Health, Concho County Hospital, Shannon Memorial Hospital, Eden EMS, and Hospice of San Angelo for their compassionate care.
