Darlene Stokes

04/22/2026 - 09:33 , by TKing09
Darlene Lee Stokes was born on November 14, 1933, in Plainview, Texas, and left for her heavenly home (dance floor) on April 18, 2026 in San Angelo, Texas.

Darlene graduated from Monahans High School in 1952 and went on to pursue her calling as a nurse, completing her training at Shannon Nursing School in 1955. Shortly afterward, she married Harry Blanek, and the newlyweds moved to Houston, where she worked in the Obstetrics and Preemie Nursery at St. Luke’s Hospital while Harry attended dental school.

In 1960, their lives were forever changed when they were blessed with the adoption of their daughter, Kathy. The family returned to San Angelo in 1961, and in 1963 welcomed their son, Harry. Darlene devoted the next many years to raising her children, a role she embraced wholeheartedly.

After Darlene and Harry divorced in 1991, she later found love again and married M.R. Stokes in 1997. They shared ten happy years together until his passing in 2007.

In the years that followed, Darlene fully embraced a lifelong joy—dancing. It became her dedicated pastime, and she rarely missed an opportunity to be on the dance floor. She was a regular at FiFi’s on Friday nights and the VFW on Saturdays, and she even helped start a monthly dance at the Rio Concho Patio Homes. She treasured the friendships she made, the partners who shared those evenings with her and all of the hugs over all the years.

Darlene was also known for her exceptional baking, especially her famous pecan pies and prune cakes. She delighted in sharing her treats with friends and neighbors, even though she hadn’t tasted her own desserts in more than 45 years.

Darlene is survived by her daughter, Kathy Wahmann, and her husband, John; their daughter, Krystal Hopkins, and her husband, Chris, great grandkids Garrett, Kylie and Greyson; by her son, Harry J. Blanek II, his wife, Julie, and their children—Maria and her husband, Brent; Preston and his wife, Alix; and Kayla. Her stepson Kenneth Stokes and his wife Diane, and stepdaughter Mary Nell Jones.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Lee; her mother, Ella Mae Lee; her brother, Wyatt Lee; her husband, M.R. Stokes; and her beloved grandson, Jonathan Wahmann. Stepchildren Jimmy Stokes and Linda Stokes Gomez.

Darlene and her family are deeply grateful for the compassionate care she received from her physicians over the years. They wish to especially acknowledge Dr. Warren Conway and his staff; Dr. Rudy Haddad and his team, including John Hedges; and, finally, Dr. Raja Cheruku and his staff, whose attentive care over the past three years helped make living with a cancer diagnosis seem almost asymptomatic.

Darlene’s community at the Rio Concho Patio Homes held a special place in her heart.

We are also profoundly thankful for the nurses and staff of San Angelo Hospice, whose tenderness and support brought comfort during her final days.

Darlene and her family remain in awe of the love and dedication shown by Kristy Perez and the caregivers from Accent Personal Care Services, whose kindness has been a true blessing during her final days.

Visitation will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard, San Angelo, TX 76903, US, on May 1, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at Johnson's Funeral Home on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 am.

A Catered Reception will take place on May 2, 2026, beginning at 12:00 pm, and the Committal Service will be held at Fairmount Cemetery, 1120 W Ave N, San Angelo, TX 76901, on May 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, Hospice of San Angelo, Veterans of Foreign Wars, or First Baptist Church

Patricia Hinkson

04/22/2026 - 09:27 , by TKing09

Patricia, affectionately known as Patsy, was born on August 17, 1938, to Woody and Gladys McCracken in Wichita Falls, Texas. She enjoyed her childhood there as the middle child, with older sister Peggy and younger brother Lowell.

After graduating from Midwestern State University in 1960, with a degree in Elementary Education—where she was recognized by ‘Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities,’ Patsy married her beloved “Tommy” on July 22, 1960. Together, they built a life centered on faith and family, sharing 63 devoted years of marriage until Tom’s passing in June 2024.

Patsy began her career teaching elementary school, helping support Tom as he completed his graduate studies. She paused her career to raise their three daughters, Leanna, Amy, and Laura. Once her daughters were in school, Patsy returned to teaching at a rural school ten miles from their home in Stephenville, Texas. There, she faithfully taught math to all students in grades K–6 each day at Huckabay ISD, earning a reputation for excellence in the classroom.

Patsy was involved in her daughters’ activities, especially during their years in scouting, as both a Girl Scout leader and a cookie sales chairman, always supporting and encouraging the girls.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Patsy and her family were active members of Harvey Baptist Church in Stephenville. Known for her love of children, Patsy faithfully cared for the church nursery, keeping it clean, organized, and welcoming.

In their retirement years, Patsy and Tom were active members of Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas, for over 30 years and made many life long friends. Patsy volunteered in the food pantry, thrift store, and nursery; was an afterschool tutor for HEB ISD; and also served as a librarian aide at the Hurst Public Library.

Patsy had a gift for finding bargains, loved clearance sales and couponing, and rarely paid full price for anything. With her petite 4’10” frame and size 4 shoes, she embraced the challenge of finding stylish inexpensive clothes; sometimes even in the children’s department!

Patsy was known for her delicious, healthy cooking, especially her pot roast and cooking all desserts from scratch, while taking great pride in maintaining an immaculate and well-organized home. Patsy and Tom also shared a love of travel, enjoying trips across the U.S. and abroad to visit family and friends and to explore new places together. They also enjoyed visits with their many friends.

Patsy was gracious, conscientious, and a woman of strong Christian morals. She instilled in her daughters the values of hard work, stewardship, obedience, healthy living, and honesty —always guided by integrity and compassion for others. Patsy will be remembered for her quiet strength and enduring faith by all who knew and loved her.

With a life so faithfully lived in service to her family, her church, and her Lord, we trust she has now heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23

Preceding in her death are her husband, Tom, her parents, her sister Peggy, and brother Lowell.

Patsy is survived by daughter Leanna (Luke) McCollum, their 4 children; son Blake (Kristen), son Austin(Ragen), daughter Michelle(Townshend), daughter Jenna(Bryce) and 11 grandchildren; daughter Amy(Mark) Fisher, their 3 children; daughter Alyssa, son Will(Jacey), son Jake(Taneea) and 4 grandchildren; and daughter Laura(Shane) Lunceford, their 3 children; son Cliff(Tori), son Reece(Jessica), daughter Lexi and 2 grandchildren.

Service will be at Shady Oaks Baptist Church, 1336 Cavender Dr., Hurst, Texas on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 11 am with lunch being served afterwards. She will be buried at Bourland Cemetery with her beloved Tommy.

Glenda Jean Russell

Glenda Jean Russell, 87, passed away on April 18, 2026. Born on August 30, 1938, Glenda was born and raised in San Angelo, Texas, a place that remained at the heart of her story and the community she held so dear.

Glenda graduated from Central High School in 1957 and soon began a long and steady career with GTE, where she worked for 32 years. In the seasons of life that followed, she found real contentment in the comforts of home—especially enjoying being home and having her home remodeled—creating a welcoming place that reflected the gentle care she so naturally extended to others.

Glenda’s life was richly shaped by love and family. She met Robert Russell while skating at the local skating rink where her dad worked, a beginning that carried the simple joy and sweetness that marked so much of her life. They were married on December 6, 1957. Together they welcomed their sons, Scott Russell on January 6, 1964, and Kevin Russell on April 23, 1968. Through the years, Glenda remained a deeply cherished presence—steady, kind-hearted, and anchored by a faithful spirit that guided how she lived and how she loved.

Glenda and Bob shared many happy times bowling and square dancing, and she was also very good at slalom waterskiing. Music was another thread woven throughout her life: after retirement she enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines, and she played the piano and electric organ. Even in quiet moments, her life carried a bright, uplifting song—one that friends and family will continue to hear in memory and in heart.

A devoted member of various Churches of Christ, Glenda lived with a faith in Jesus Christ that was not merely spoken, but practiced—seen in her kindness toward others and the warmth she offered so freely. She was also a member of the Lions Club, reflecting her enduring care for the people around her and her desire to stay connected to community. Her favorite hymn was “I’ll Fly Away,” a fitting reflection of the hope that sustained her and the joy she carried.

Glenda was preceded in death by her Father Henry Hudec, mother Eva Mae Hudec, brother Kenneth Hudec, and husband Robert Russell. She is survived by her sons Scott Russell and his daughters Madelynn and Brianna, and Kevin, daughter-in-law Stephanie, and children Emory and Brecker.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Comfort Keepers. Sagecrest took great care of her for the past several years.

Lindsey Amanda Cole

04/21/2026 - 10:08 , by TKing09

Lindsay Amanda Cole, born February 5, 1986, in New Orleans, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in San Angelo at the age of 40.

Lindsay loved stories. She studied philosophy and earned her bachelor's degree because she was drawn to life's biggest questions. She was someone who would sit with an idea, turn it over carefully, challenge it, and often find humor within it. She believed life was something to examine thoughtfully and also something to live fully.

She found joy in immersive worlds. Whether exploring the relentless landscapes of Doom, surviving the haunting beauty of Elden Ring, or embracing the challenge of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Lindsay appreciated games that demanded persistence and resilience. She understood that difficulty could make achievement more meaningful.

She also shared that love of imagination with her daughter. Together, they built and explored side by side in Minecraft, creating their own worlds block by block. Above all, Lindsay loved spending time with Terra. Those moments, whether simple or significant, meant more to her than anything else.

Music was a constant companion in her life. She listened widely and without limits, always open to discovering something new or revisiting an old favorite. She also enjoyed writing, shaping her thoughts into words and continuing her lifelong love of storytelling in her own voice.

Lindsay is survived by her mother, Lori Cole, her daughter Terra Cole, her niece and nephew, Celes and Aidon Cole. Remembered by Amy Cole. She was preceded in death by her father, Dan Cole; her stepmother, Carol; and her brother, Brandon Cole.

Her memory lives on in the worlds she explored, the ideas she wrestled with, and the stories she carried with her.

Memorial Service information will be shared directly with friends and family.

Robert Edward Lee Dehnel, Sr.

04/20/2026 - 09:44 , by TKing09

Robert Edward Lee Dehnel Sr. passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Robert was born January 19, 1932 at home in San Angelo, Texas. He was the eighth of eleven children and the seventh son born to Paul Emanuel and Ava Lee Dehnel (née Rutledge). Robert grew up on Avenue J and attended public school in San Angelo, TX. After graduating from high school in 1950, he enrolled in classes at San Angelo College (SAC). As a member of the college band, he met Doris Gem Downey and they would marry on May 24, 1952 in the chapel at First Baptist Church on Harris Avenue.

Robert worked in road construction around the State of Texas for over 40 years including many sections of the interstate highway system. He began as a general laborer and worked his way up to superintendent ("the white hat"). Robert and Doris had 3 children, Robert Jr.(Eddie) born in San Angelo, Charlotte Diane born in El Paso, and Robin LeFern born in Amarillo. In 1970, they would settle in the Grape Creek community and Robert would continue to travel for work for many years.

After retirement in 1997, Robert was the neighborhood lawnmower repairman. He would never take money for his work and was often "gifted" lawnmowers from people to fix or use as parts. He taught himself to play the accordion, the banjo, and the piano which he would play by ear. He had always played the organ at home and had played the tuba, Sousaphone, and the upright bass in school. He could crochet and in the early years of his retirement he made pillows just to have something to do.

Robert was known to family and friends as "Bob" and in April 2004, he earned the title "Papaw" when his only grandchild Berit Calais was born and would spend his time doting on her. His blue eyes and dazzling smile were a reflection of the big heart of a kind man who would do anything to help anybody in need. He never spoke a negative word about another person, even if it might have been deserved. Until the end, he exhibited his proper southern upbringing with a "thank you", and a "yes sir/ma'am" and a mischievous sense of humor. His last act of generosity was the gift of a tower and the land beneath it to the San Angelo Amateur Radio Club in honor of his two eldest brothers who were some of the original members of the club which celebrated 103 years in 2025.

In May 2022, a celebration with family and friends was held for Robert and Doris to honor 70 years of marriage. With Doris' passing in January of 2024, they were a few months short of celebrating 72 years of marriage.

Robert is survived by his son Eddie Dehnel, his daughter Robin Dehnel and son-in-law Michael Smith, and their daughter (his granddaughter) Berit Smith, his sister Elizabeth McKinney, his brother Paul Dehnel and wife Connie, his sister-in-law Karen Dehnel, 13 nieces, and 14 nephews.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife Doris, his daughter Charlotte, his parents Paul and Ava Lee, his 6 brothers & his 2 sisters and 6 of their spouses: Raymond (Novella), John (Kathleen), Jack (Elizabeth), Bill (Wilma), Martin, Curtis, Margarete (Curtis Crook), Helen (Frank Swartz), his brother-in-law James McKinney, Doris' 3 brothers and 1 sister and their spouses, 7 nephews, and 1 niece.

The family would like to thank all those who assisted Robert in the last year of his life: the Shannon nurses, doctors, nurses aides to numerous to name, the wonderful and compassionate staff at Regency House (who are now family) and Hospice of San Angelo who loved him and made him comfortable until the end, and the employees of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

To honor his memory, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice of San Angelo, Angelo State University Ram Pantry (Dehnel gift), the Charlotte Dehnel memorial scholarship at Hardin Simmons University, the San Angelo Amateur Radio Club (San Angelo Gives May 5), or a non-profit of your choice.
