Sandra Hulse

02/18/2025 - 09:44 , by TKing09

On February 11th, 2025 our precious Mom and Mimi was lovingly welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in San Angelo, TX, on January 30th, 1936, Sandra Freeze Hulse was a West Texas force whose unashamed devotion to the gospel and innate artistic gifts combined to touch the lives of countless people. Throughout her abundant life, Sandra’s artistic abilities produced hundreds of beautiful paintings and hand stitched tapestries which reflected her love of faith, family, and friends. The walls of art collectors around the United States and beyond are home to many of her exquisite creations.

Sandra would say that her life really began on October 24th, 1970 when a dear friend invited her to a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.). Her willingness to surrender herself to the Twelve Steps opened a door that would not only transform her life, but the lives of her family, friends, and the many people she sponsored in A.A. By honestly working the Twelve Steps she realized a great gift; God was doing for her what she could not do for herself. Thus, by claiming Jesus as her Higher Power, Sandra’s life became an outward expression of an inner dependence on Him.

If Sandra couldn’t be found in San Angelo, one might run into her at any airport around the world or at her beloved second home in Taos, New Mexico. She and her late husband, Max Hulse, enjoyed an adventurous life filled with great friends, wonderful travels, and exhilarating tales.

Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Carl Alexander “Jake” Freeze and her mother Nelda Nobles Freeze. She is survived by her three children, Bart Gunter (Sharon), Liz Steving, Sloan Gunter (Debra), and sister Ann Carruth (David). Her much- loved grandchildren are Sloan Baker, Kate Bonfield, Alex Bonfield, Barton Gunter, Jr., Annie Gunter, Austin Gunter, Taulbee Gunter, Cameron Gunter, Max Gunter, Adam Williams, and Stacy Collins; nephew Jordan Carruth and niece Lane Hawkins (Robbie). Last, but not least, she leaves behind twelve beautiful great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Toby Baker, Barton Gunter, Jr., Conor Clary, Austin Gunter, Max Gunter, Jake Baker, and Justin Smith.

Her celebration of life will be Saturday, February 22nd at 10AM at The Anglican Church of the Good Shephard, 3355 W Beauregard Ave, San Angelo, TX, 76904. A reception will follow at the church parish hall.

We have been deeply touched by the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from so many people who loved Sandra. Today, and every day she is truly alive!

William "Bill" Francis Joyce

02/18/2025 - 09:39 , by TKing09

William “Bill” Francis Joyce, 87 years, of Houston, Texas rode away with Jesus on Thursday,

February 6th, 2025 at 7:51 p.m. He was in Jeffersontown, Kentucky and is no longer doing “Terrible, but thanks for asking.”

“Billy” was born on August 12, 1937 in Astoria, New York to Peter and Lillian (Froggatt) Joyce and enjoyed the privileges of being their only child.

He grew and enjoyed watching the airplanes fly in and out of LaGuardia Airport, swimming at Rockaway Beach, listening to old time country music radio from the Grand Ol Opry with his Grandnanny and summer time visits with his cousins in Ballydesmond, County Cork, Ireland.

Bill graduated from Delehanty High School in Queens, New York. The day following his graduation in 1957 he joined the United States Air Force. Bill would go on to be stationed in San Antonio, California, Japan and finally at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas.

It was there in San Angelo that he met Ann “Annice” Bernice Nesrsta. He was “the best looking boy she’d ever seen whose first name was Bill and his last name was something funny.”

Bill and Annice married on August 12th, 1961 in a beautiful wedding before a congregation that filled San Angelo’s brand new Catholic Cathedral.

Bill earned his Bachelor of Business Administration, Finance, at Texas Tech University in 1967. He spent his career primarily in the Oil & Gas and Steel Manufacturing Industries as an International Credit Manager. His work moved them from Lubbock to Tulsa, Topeka and Houston, Texas where they built their family’s beautiful home and lived for 54 years.

Bill loved traveling both for work and with his “Nici.” He kept journals of his travels and shared the meals, sites and experiences with his family through them. He loved playing tennis, socializing at the YMCA and church, leaning up against the fence and telling stories with the neighbors across the street, Billy Kirsch and Wilson Choate. He enjoyed hunting seasons with Brian Martin, his brother-in-law, and eventually with Richard Howell, his son-in-law. He enjoyed hiking with his friend Dean and Houston’s Happy Hikers, sitting around the fire and feeding his backyard birds. He treasured his family and we all knew how much he loved us.

Sweet Ol’ Bill, aka “SOB” will always be remembered for his many “Papa-isms,” his great smile and sense of humor, for his dessert compartment, for liking to wear brightly colored “Hawaiian” shirts and his Texas Tech cap, showing his “Guns Up” in any photograph, for his patience and grace, his loving bear hugs and beautiful whistle and for sharing his gratitude to God for His love and gift of Jesus Christ.

Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Annice Joyce, Daughter, Nancy Ann (Joyce) and Son-in-law Richard Howell and Grandson Samuel William Howell also known as his best buddy and favorite Red Raider. Also, Nancy and Robert “Bob’ J. O’Malley of Aurora, CO, George Jr. and Marilyn Nesrsta of Midland and Evelyn and J. Brian Martin also of Midland, TX as well as Cousins John Fitzgerald of Orefield, PA, Sile O’Leary of Kennebunkport, ME, numerous nieces and nephews.

In remembrance, we hope you’ll sit with family and friends and be warmed by the light of the sun, smell a flower, have a margarita, eat a cookie or two. Say “Howdy” to a stranger and bring a smile to someone in need. Say “thank you” to the careworkers and people who help and never forget to tell your wife and family that you love them.

Our Sweet Bill, Dad, Papa and friend will be honored by the USAF and celebrated by family and friends at a graveside service on Friday, February 14th, 2025 at 3:30 pm at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, Texas. Ratterman’s Funeral Home in Jeffersontown, KY and Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo, TX. “Long live the Matador!”

Billie Jean McCleery

02/18/2025 - 09:22 , by TKing09

Billie Jean "Zaza" McCleery departed this world on February 16, 2025.

She was born on August 29, 1936, to Wayne and Frieda Rosenthal Willson. Arriving six weeks premature, she entered the world just before the historic flood of 1936. Billie was raised in San Angelo, TX, where she spent most of her life, aside from brief stays in Fort Worth and California. She graduated from San Angelo High School and later pursued business and accounting courses at Angelo State University.

Billie had a long and successful career with GTE, where she worked in various supervisory and management roles before retiring as the Budget Analyst for GTE President Buddy Langley. Even after retirement, she remained active—first as a substitute teacher and later as a travel agent, a role she loved as it allowed her to see the world. She shared her passion for travel with her family, taking her mother and granddaughters on adventures across Europe, Canada, and numerous cruises. One of her cherished memories was taking Therese to London and Paris and later treating the family to a celebratory cruise after Becca’s high school graduation.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a young mother, she taught Training Union classes for children at Park Heights Baptist Church. Over the years, she continued her spiritual journey at Trinity Baptist and Southland Baptist Church, where she was a devoted member of the Joy class.

Billie was actively involved in her community, particularly through the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She also found joy in her bridge group, cherishing the friendships it brought her.

Later in life, Billie’s greatest joy came from her great-grandchildren. She was a devoted presence at as many of their activities as possible, whether in Texas or Georgia. Known lovingly as "Zaza"—a name given to her by her first grandchild, Carrie, as a toddler—she became "Zaza" to all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their friends.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents and her uncle, Howard Willson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Therese and Tad Emert of Robert Lee; her grandchildren, Carrie Powers of Pecos, Becca Wilson (husband Kasey) of Dahlonega, GA, Carli Powers of Georgetown, Cadi Powers of San Marcos, Jaci Wilson of Dahlonega, GA, and Kason Wilson of Dahlonega, GA.

In honor of Billie’s life, memorial contributions may be made to Rust Street Ministries.

She will be deeply missed, but her love, wisdom, and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Monday, February 17, 2025, at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Harper Funeral Home. The burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

Family and friends may share condolences and sign the online register book at www.harper-funeralhome.com.
