Loye Helen Trusler Barnes

07/18/2025 - 10:07 , by TKing09

Loye Helen Trusler Barnes passed away peacefully with her family at her side on July 12, 2025, after a long illness. She was born in Denver, Colorado on May 2, 1940, to Graydon Tipton Trusler and Alice McGarr Trusler. Her family moved to San Angelo in 1946 where she met the love of her life, John Barnes, in first grade at Santa Rita Elementary. After graduation from Central High School, she attended Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She and John returned to San Angelo in 1972 after John completed his medical training.

Loye was a respected volunteer leader in San Angelo, serving as president of both the Junior League and the Symphony League. She was a master gardener. She was a voracious reader and puzzler and instilled a love of mysteries and word games in her children and grandchildren. She was a sports fanatic and a great tennis player. She was a talented cook and was always on the lookout for new recipes. She enjoyed knitting and created many beautiful scarves for her family and friends. She was also a proud “cat lady.”

Above all, Loye was a wonderful, warm, and loving Mama to her children and grandchildren. Her family loved visiting Mama’s house and being treated to her famous lasagna or the secret family salsa. We are fortunate to have treasured memories of many holidays with Mama.

Loye was smart, tough, and relentlessly positive. She had a smile and a kind word for others up to the very end of her life. She fought hard to stay with us, but it wasn’t meant to be. We are comforted that she is free of suffering and is reunited with her beloved husband. We will miss her forever.

Loye is survived by her children, Alice Barnes Viroslav and husband Sergio, Kathy Barnes Stell and husband Andrew, and J. Tipton Barnes and wife Stephanie; her grandchildren Hannah Viroslav McFarland and husband Dan, Anna Stell Foley and husband Brennan, Andie Viroslav, Sadie Stell, Evan Viroslav, Margaret Stell, and Marlowe Barnes; and her great granddaughter Harper Helen Foley. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 64 years, John Littleton Barnes, her brothers Graydon Trusler and Mike Trusler, and her grandson Robert Littleton Stell. The family is grateful to Dr. Sarah Cameron, Colby, and the staff of N. Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio for the excellent and compassionate care that they provided, Billie Sheeran for her love and support of our mother, and Comfort Keepers for their care and companionship.

The Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday July 22, 2025, at Harper Funeral Home with burial at Fairmount Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial.

Memorial donations may be made to the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research, www.fpwr.org, or a local charity of your choice.

Born on November 15, 1952, in San Angelo, Texas, Steve was the son of the late John Horace “Took” Edwards and Dorothy Louise Stevens Edwards of Wall, Texas. On September 28, 1973, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Kay Pinson, in San Angelo, where they began their life together before eventually relocating to Odessa, Texas.

Steve dedicated his professional career to the oil and gas industry, working for respected companies including Amoco and Oxy Permian. He was deeply appreciative of the colleagues and friendships he built over the years. After a successful career, he retired in July 2012 and returned to San Angelo to be closer to family and lifelong friends.

Steve was a man of deep faith and a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending time with his beloved wife Marilyn and their twin daughters, Allison and Courtney, caring for his dogs, enjoying ranch life, traveling in his RV, listening to Wall High School football broadcasts, watching tennis, and engaging in spirited conversation. Known for his warm personality and storytelling, Steve never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Charlie and Marsha Halfmann, Randy and Cathy Bredemeyer, and Eddie and Jenny Pinson, all of San Angelo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Serving as an honorary pallbearer is his nephew, Garrett Pinson. Pallbearers include nephews Blake Bredemeyer, Brandon Bredemeyer, Derek Halfmann, Drew Dierschke, Reid Pinson, and Wade Pinson.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in San Angelo, followed by a lunch and time of fellowship in the church’s Fellowship Hall. A private family burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

The Edwards family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville, the Texas emergency response, rescue, and recovery teams, and to all those who have offered prayers, kind words, cards, flowers, and support during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the San Angelo Animal Shelter, Holy Angels Catholic Church, Meals for the Elderly (San Angelo), or the West Texas Boys Ranch.

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Jack R. Baker

07/14/2025 - 11:14 , by TKing09

Jack Renne Baker was born September 19, 1943 in San  Angelo, Texas to Rex and Dorothy Jarvis Baker. Jack R. passed away peacefully July 9, 2025.

Jack spent his childhood in Sonora helping his grandfather and mother on the Baker Ranch located between Junction and Sonora. There are numerous stories of his, and a few select others’, escapades during those early years. After graduating from Sonora High School in 1961 he attended Sul Ross State University where the escapades continued and are legends today. He did leave his mark out there. In return Alpine and the surrounding stomping grounds left a mark on his heart. Shortly after graduation from Sul Ross in 1966 he was drafted into the US Army and stationed in Germany until his return home in 1968.

Upon his return he started back to ranching, shoeing horses by the hundreds over his lifetime, and cowboying as he would say, “here, there and yonder doing this, that, and the other!” He reconnected with a Sul Ross classmate, Jacquelyn Wheless from Torreon, Mexico/ Menard, TX. Jack and Jacque. were married March 7, 1970. They moved to the Baker Ranch that fall and spent 55 years together ranching and dancing.

“Baker,” as he was called by many of his friends, was known for having good looking horses, hard working dogs, hard driving deals and a work ethic like none other. There are a few guys out there that got to ride along many a mile and shoe many a horse with him to learn the “Jack Baker way.” The name he treasured most was “Papa Jack.”

Papa Jack is survived by his wife Jacque., daughter Wheless Baker and Pete Calderon, Lewis Baker and family Monica, Ileana, Kate and Raully, numerous family members and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister Rex Ann Friess.

A special heartfelt thank you goes out to the Menard Manor and Morning Star Memory Care caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a favorite charity or Menard county 4-H, P.O. Box 485 Menard, TX 76859
